There are just a few days to go of The Nature Issue and we’re milking it for everything we have, because we’re more than a little sad to say goodbye to all things botanical. Today we’re all about botanically inspired wedding ideas and we’ve got all the ways you can bring nature into your wedding day. And these ideas? not limited to an outdoor wedding, because nature never is. Bring the outside in, embrace the green, let yourself be inspired to bring a little Mother Earth into your wedding day!

Choose a natured filled  wedding venue

The first step to bringing nature into your wedding? Choosing a nature-filled wedding venue! Whether you opt to get married in the depths of a forest, by the sea, in the country, or even in an urban venue filled with plants, you really can’t go wrong with a nature-filled wedding venue.

Oh, and to help you out, we’ve rounded up plant-filled wedding venues Australia wide here.

Add botanicals to your drinks and food

Botanicals are so often overlooked for food and drinks, especially when it comes to Australian indigenous ingredients. Why not consider working them into your menu? Think finger limes, pepper berries, wattleseed… there are so many ideas to include in your canapés, your main course and of course dessert. And herb-based cocktails like mojitos, mint juleps, cinnamon-spiced mulled wine, rosemary gin fizz – so many options!

Add natural details to your wedding stationery pieces

Your invitation is the first inkling for your guests of what is to come, and it’s a beautiful way to include botanicals. Incorporate your favourite blooms, beautiful foliage through letterpress, modern silhouetted designs, watercolour. Embrace nature-inspired green tones, seeded papers, brightly coloured or simple black and white illustrations.

Get inspired by nature for your wedding cake

Your wedding cake is a brilliant way to bring nature into your wedding day. Adorn your cake with fresh flowers, have sugar flowers atop each layer, hand painted natural details, your cake could even take its inspiration from your favourite natural space (a woodland? The beach?).

And don’t let yourself be limited by how it looks on the outside – consider incorporating botanicals in your wedding cake, like fruit – citrus, berries or even indigenous ingredients.  Want more ideas on bringing nature into your wedding cake? Miss Ladybird Cakes shares all her advice here.

Gift plant-based wedding favours

We love the idea of gifting your guests a potted plant as their wedding favour! But that’s not all the options you have for plant-based wedding favours. What about packets of seeds?  Seeded paper? Your favourite tea? Tiny terrariums?

Add fresh flowers to your wedding hair

Fresh flowers are such a stunning way to add a little nature to your wedding day. A floral crown is a favourite for many, but flowers woven throughout your hair, a fresh flower behind the ear, or fresh flowers pinned in your up-do will add something fresh to your look too.

Embrace large, oversize floral details

Bring the outside in by embracing oversized florals. Large oversized bouquets are just a start when you consider all the ways you can add blooms to your space. A favourite? Oversize arrangements that hang overhead, floral details that frame the newlyweds for the wedding ceremony, and gorgeous arrangement adorning the bar. Go wild, embrace plenty of foliage and unstructured details to really bring nature to your day.

Weave nature into your attire

Floral embroidery, floral print fabrics, and floral appliqués are not unusual to see on a wedding gown and they can make a delicate, beautiful statement (and a nod to nature!). Wearing a suit? Think floral print shirts, floral print ties or bow ties – even the lining of the suit can echo your love of nature.  Want more ideas? Check out these from White Lily Couture.

Wear a nature-inspired scent

Signature scents on weddings days are special because scent memory? It’s a powerful thing! Picking a scent unique to your day, will remind you of your wedding day for years to come. And there are endless options for floral, herb and foliage based scents. Consider a scent based on somewhere or something you love.
