Glamorous and modern, Michelle and James’ Melbourne city wedding was utterly magnificent! From the custom made gown to the sparkling bridesmaids and all the other details so thoughtfully curated, we love every moment. Loco Photography captured the day.
Having met in Geelong when the bride was just 13, Michelle and James spent the next 10 years crossing paths until finally making it official. The bride tells of the proposal, ”James proposed in Hawaii on a family vacation which was a surprise gift for James’ mum’s 50th birthday. The trip was initially a gift to James’ parents however once my sister and brother in law, their in-laws and my parents also committed to the trip we just couldn’t resist the opportunity to tag along and turn it into a family vacation. Little did I know that four days into our trip James and I would hike up to the top of Diamond Head (ironic, I know!) for the sunrise where James popped the question.”
The bride’s gown featured intricate detailing and a simple silhouette, handcrafted by Annette Of Melbourne. Michelle shares, ”From the beginning, I had such a distinct image in my mind of what my dress would look like; super low back, beaded, off white. All of this criteria ultimately made buying a gown impossible. I just knew I had to have it created. I met with Rose who, on day one, drew a quick sketch of my dream dress and a mere nine months later it became a reality. I am forever grateful for the wonderful experience of creating my dream gown. We wanted to keep our styling modern and traditional while injecting a touch of the rustic glamour that we love. For the boys, we opted for classic black suits and for the girls it was rose gold all the way! They wore rose gold Badgley Mischka gowns – these were just perfect!”
A traditional ceremony held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church was heartfelt. The bride remembers, ”Our entire day was full of laughs and memorable moments; it was an emotional rollercoaster in every way! Turns out during our (very high energy!) morning celebrations James lost a button on his shirt. It was one of the first things I noticed when we left the church. And, true to James’ character, he forgot the lines to repeat after the pastor during our vows which we continue to have a laugh about now and it definitely lightened the mood so we could relax!”
Knowing her vision for how their day would look, Michelle was thrilled with the work of Charlie & Co Flowers. She tells, ”The colour scheme for the day was predominantly rose gold, grey and marble with lots of foliage! My bouquet was white and green with an abundance of foliage while the girls had very similar with the addition of latte coloured roses to compliment the rose gold colour scheme. The beautiful Charlie created a floral chandelier, bridal table runner and centrepieces which brought the reception room to life together with an abundance of candles and rose gold ornaments and flower stands to add the final touch.”
To capturing the glamour of the day against the city backdrop, Loco Photography were the key. The bride and groom were keen to enjoy their day, sharing, ”Between our ceremony and reception we spent time taking photos with our bridal party, during which I really didn’t want to rush as a lot of brides do, trying to reach every location for photos! We kept our photos local and ended up spending a good hour at a bar having cocktails and nibbles together and reminiscing on the morning, the ceremony and everything leading up to the day.”
Choosing a venue came easily for the couple, with Michelle telling, ”We had a lot of family travelling from regional Victoria, interstate and overseas as well as older family members. So it was super important for us to find a centrally located venue that was easy to access and close to transport. When we met Karinda and chatted to her about our lives and our vision for the big day we knew it was an absolute no-brainer. Showtime Events had everything we were looking for in a venue – more than just the location – it was totally unique, versatile and I just knew that this is where we were going to have our wedding reception. We both love the rustic/warehouse style and the bar is such a stunning feature. Importantly, we are both massive foodies and after reading incredible reviews on the quality and presentation of the food at Showtime we couldn’t resist.”
Congratulations to our stunning bride and groom on your wedding, thank you for sharing it with us! Thank you also to Loco Photography and Iconic Pictures for the use of your beautiful imagery.
