There’s something about a place filled with stories that makes the perfect backdrop for starting a new one. For Vicy and Marlon, that place was the Waverley Antique Bazaar: a maze of vintage treasures and hidden corners that perfectly matched their playful energy.

Captured by Andy and Alysha of Packing Light Photography, the pair laughed their way through the bustling aisles before heading outdoors for something softer and slower.

Vicy and Marlon met on Hinge at the height of COVID lockdowns in late 2020. “We got to meet during a weekend when the lockdowns had paused, and we’ve been inseparable ever since!”

Waverley Antique Bazaar in Clayton, Victoria, was a fun backdrop for this engagement sheet. The giant warehouse houses stalls full of individual sellers, creating an interesting labyrinth of antiques. “We also went to a second location to take nature-style photos with a calmer vibe,” Vicy shares.

The year Marlon was sent to work in San Francisco marked the start of their relationship shift. “I came to see him and stay with him for a month after he had settled in. We walked through Golden Gate Park, which was down the road from his apartment, and was also a special place to us as we had visited it together on holiday a year prior. As we got up to leave from a park bench, Marlon tricked me by saying he saw a dog that looked like ours (Wesley) behind me. As I turned to look, he took the moment to fish out the ring from his bag and get on one knee. All I could manage to say was “Are you serious?” I was so happy and in disbelief before finally saying yes.” Vicy explained.

Waverley Bazaar was chosen for their engagement shoot because Vicy and Marlon love to shop secondhand, and it’s a spot they’ve visited many times together. “It was important to us to have some fun photos with a candid feeling that we could look at and enjoy for years to come. We went for a more vintage vibe, as one of our favourite things to do is go secondhand shopping.”

Andy and Alysha from Packing Light Photography helped Vicy and Marlon capture their bright, antique-store-themed engagement shoot perfectly. “Packing Light were amazing at making us feel comfortable at being silly in public. Taking photos around strangers can be a little overwhelming, but honestly, they got us so in the zone that it felt like we were the only people in the whole store. They enjoyed collaborating on ideas for photos as well as coming up with their own based on their experience.”

Since day one, Marlon and Vicy have been perfectly compatible and flourish in each other’s company. “We are genuinely best friends and could spend every minute together. Whether we are playing video games or going grocery shopping, we are always chatting, laughing, and being silly. We could be in the middle of nowhere and make it fun by just being together.”

Congratulations to Marlon and Vicy, and a special thanks to  Packing Light Photography for bringing the vision to life!
