If you’re looking for a luxe venue in the heart of Brisbane, you MUST put Victoria Park on your list of venues to check out. It boasts stunning gardens, gorgeous ancient trees, and a large golf course with city views. Perfect for your photos! And for your ceremony and reception? It has six beautiful  spaces – all with their own individual style and panoramic views. To find out more about Victoria Park, we spoke to Britt Kearns who is a wedding sales executive at the venue. Below, we cover all the important stuff – from styling and menus to why weddings at Victoria Park are oh-so memorable.

Where abouts is your venue?
Victoria Park is in Herston just a few kilmometres from Brisbane’s CBD. With plenty of natural surrounds and city views, it’s a beautiful spot to have your wedding.

Tell us about the history of Victoria Park…
Victoria Park has an incredibly rich history! The land which Victoria Park sits upon has previously been a quarry; a rifle range and an encampment for World War Two American troops. In 1931, Victoria Park was repurposed into a nine-hole municipal golf course and clubhouse which was opened by the Brisbane City Council. In 1999, the Bickle family successfully tendered to the Brisbane City Council to operate Victoria Park’s Clubhouse and develop new facilities. Over the years the complex has been redeveloped in partnership with the Brisbane City Council to create a thriving inner-city destination. Since taking over the business, the complex has been converted into a multi-use venue with an award-winning function centre, putt putt course, driving range, golf learning centre and bistro.

Why are Victoria Park weddings so memorable?
They are so memorable because we provide amazing weddings! There are so many options to choose from, with five unique spaces to host your ceremony and reception on site, all fitted with their own private bars and terraces overlooking the beautiful Brisbane city skyline. Our food is incredible and something that we are also very proud of. We also work with great suppliers who transform all our spaces from light up dance floors to fireworks. Plus, we have the added benefit of being a multipurpose venue so whilst the couples are taking their photos in our parklands, wedding guests can play a game of putt putt or even have a hit on the driving range. It’s such a fun venue with endless possibilities!

Is there a particular style of wedding that you mostly host?
We can offer any type of wedding styles, but our bread and butter are banquet style weddings with a two or three course dinner.

Does your team offer styling services?
As part of our packages, we do include the basics like a standard centrepiece, table numbers, welcome signs, linen and cutlery. We partner with amazing suppliers to style our rooms, like our friends at Beautiful Weddings.

Do you still see bridal décor ideas that surprise and delight you – even after being a part of so many weddings?
We’ve operating weddings for quite some time, so I guess you could say we’ve seen it all! We mostly see customers sticking to the trends at the time.

What’s your ceremony space like?
You can have your ceremony on the terraces of all our five venues, or you can opt to have your ceremony in our dedicated ceremony courtyard. It’s stunning! It overlooks the city as well as the beautiful parklands, there is no space quite like it in Brisbane.

Where are the most popular spots at your venue for wedding photos?
Being such a diverse venue, there are so many amazing places couples opt to have their wedding photos taken. The most popular is under the historic jacaranda trees on the golf course and soon to be parklands. We have seen a few trends of couples taking photos near the giant cactus in the Bistro, as well as in front of the hedges on the way up to the bistro. The 8th hole is one of my personal favourites, as it captures the beautiful green rolling hills as well as that gorgeous city backdrop.

What options are there for receptions and how many guests can you cater for?
We have quite a few options when it comes to receptions as all of rooms have differing capacities. We can cater for intimate weddings such as 30 guests or larger weddings for up to 380 guests. To find out more, you can email me or have a look at our website.

Tell us about the food and drinks…
Food and beverage is something we do incredibly well here at Victoria Park. We refresh our menu once a year and we even have a growing garden on site which our chefs use all the time for fresh herbs and garnishes. We also try and use as much locally sourced produce as possible, to ensure we are giving back to the community.

For receptions, we offer a two and three course sit down menu where customers can choose a variety of options. This includes a selection from our cold entrée, hot entrée, mains and dessert options. Our beverage package has four different options to choose from which caters to all budget types.

What on the menu would you recommend?
A standout for customers is our braised beef cheeks, parsley, mash, greens and tomato jam. If you’re looking for something a little lighter, the roasted barramundi, pea puree, fried rosti, tomato fricassee and herb butter is also a winner.

Do you offer advice on local suppliers?
We sure do! We have a wide range of preferred suppliers that we work with and a dedicated venue planner is assigned to each wedding to ensure couples get the day they have always dreamt of. Our key suppliers are Beautiful Weddings for styling and G&M Events for entertainment.

What’s a typical day at work look like for you?
Every day starts with a soy iced latte and catching up with the rest of the sales team about what our days look like. I spend a lot of time quoting and chatting with couples on the phone to find a venue that best matches them, then I always have quite a few site visits with couples to show them our beautiful venues.

What do you love about your job?
Chatting with new couples! If I could just spend every day sitting and talking to couples about what they had in mind for their wedding, I’d be one very happy wedding exec.

Favourite wedding in the past year?
We had a lot of couples who have been affected by COVID-19, the most memorable would have to be a couple who had their wedding postponed and decided to have the biggest party by booking their wedding on New Year’s Eve. Their wedding was full of bright coloured florals, the bride changed into a beautiful sequin dress and they celebrated with fireworks at midnight!

What kinds of weddings would you like to see at Victoria Park going forward?
We would love to see more brunch weddings at Victoria Park. As we are quite a beautiful wedding location, having weddings during the daytime is really special.
