Dahbii & Casey
With every postponement of 2020, we have embraced weekday weddings, and today’s wedding of Dahbii and Casey is the most wonderful showcase of why weekday weddings need to be a thing. Hosted on a Wednesday “we didn’t want a traditional weekend wedding” explains Dahbii. With just 11 of their closest family in attendance, this was a day what was just what the bride and groom had dreamt of, a wedding that was, “Intimate, private, romantic, elegant, quirky, sophisticated but simple.” In the words of Dahbii. The photographs? They completely do it justice, the duo inviting Elk & Fir along for the ride.
This was a story, that began for Dahbii and Casey on Tinder, the bride sharing “We met on Tinder in 2014. Casey was a FIFO worker from Sydney, NSW and worked in Gladstone, QLD. I was living and working in Rockhampton, QLD at the time, we were both on Tinder for the fun of it and when we matched we both didn’t think any more of it. Two weeks of talking none stop had passed and Casey phoned me the morning of Valentines Day and told me that he had randomly booked flights to come see me, at first I thought he was joking but when I had heard the voice over at the airport I knew it was real. We met and instantly connected.
We spent the whole weekend together and it just felt so right, we felt like we had known each other forever and he asked me to be his girlfriend before he had to fly back and six years later, here we are, married and have a beautiful daughter together.”
And then, a romantic Valentines Day was just the opportunity Casey needed to drop to one knee. “Casey planned a weekend away to Agnes Waters where he had booked a private mansion tucked away in a secluded estate that sat on the cliffs beside the ocean. We enjoyed a weekend of sun, massages, beaches, pools, food etc and then on the Sunday, Valentines Day 2016, two years to the day we first met, Casey organised an in house chef to cook us an amazing breakfast. Little did I know he was about to get down on one knee on our balcony and ask me to be his wife!”
The groom embraced the moody winter tones of the day donning a navy and black suit from YD. Dahbii tells “Casey also wanted to go for the more wintery kind of feel with his suit and we were both instantly drawn to black and dark navy jacket. The jacket had a faint embroidered pattern which gave off the feeling of a simple but luxe feel and tied in well with the rest of the styling of our wedding, simple but elegant.”
The couple made sure to include their daughter in every part of the day.
Dahbii found her beautiful, long sleeve lace wedding gown at Mason Bridal. “My dress was a boho, styled long sleeve lace dress with a low back” she shares. “I was attracted to the dress as it was elegant, covered in lace, but had a quirky feel with the very low and open back. Our wedding was in Winter so I wanted something to give off that wintery feel. In the afternoon when it was cooler, I had a beige fur coat to drape over the top.”
The industrial style of Rockhampton brewery Headricks Lane was just the mood Dahbii and Casey wanted for their wedding, the bride noting “Headricks Lane was the perfect location for our private and intimate setting. Both the Ceremony and reception were held on the top floor of the open planned brewery. We wanted a venue indoors with the dark setting but something that also suited our style, we instantly fell in love with Headricks after searching for three years for the perfect location.”
The incredible floral arrangements, filled with textured blooms and wild grasses, were styled by Lilly and Lotus Events. Dahbii remarking “she was incredible and exceeded our expectations. I wanted my flowers to reflect my style I was wowed by the final product. I wanted over the top, modern but different, I wanted statement pieces that I could keep forever, my florist was insane and I was very impressed. Some of the foliage came my parent’s garden and the cotton was sourced locally from Emerald. My bouquet was so big but was perfect and our arbour piece was certainly a statement piece that still wows people.”
Dahbii chose “A Thousand Years” covered by Jasmine Thompson to play as she walked down the aisle with her father and her daughter.
Of their ceremony, the bride shares “Our ceremony was simple and we decided to write and read out our own vows. I wanted the feel to be as though the rest of the world didn’t exist for that moment and that it was all about Casey and I and nothing else mattered. We were surrounded by immediate family only.”
The couple chose to invite purely their nearest and dearest, the bride noting “The fact that we only had immediate family (11 guests), we kept the meaning of what marriage meant to us and that’s what we focused on, we did everything our way, we had fun and it was everything we had expected.
There was no stress, and it was all about what Casey and I wanted. We knew exactly what we wanted and how we wanted our day to be so we did ‘us’. I wouldn’t change anything.”
For a day that was designed to focus on its stars, Rockhampton was just the place to do it. “We also decided to get married in Rockhampton as this was the town we very first met each other” explains Dahbii. “We didn’t want to be too traditional with our wedding, we wanted to make the day about ‘Dahbii and Casey’.”
“Don’t lose the meaning of what marriage means to you and your future husband, do everything your way. The day is for you and your husband, no one else. Enjoy the whole experience” advised Dahbii.
The newlyweds were beyond thrilled with their choice of photographer, raves Dahbii. “Our photographer was out of this world, her style and photographs are amazing, I knew she was the one for us the moment we met with her. She captures the moments perfectly, she has a sense of quirkiness and is unique, she captures the passion, intimacy and emotion in each photograph.”
And as the sun set, it was time for an intimate dinner, but no first dance! “We decided we didn’t want to do the first dance, we didn’t really do things the traditional way” tells the bride.
Chapters By Jordie was chosen by the couple to capture this stunning film of the day unfolding.
A big congratulations to the newlyweds! Thank you so much to you both for sharing today’s wedding with us. Thank you also to Elk & Fir for today’s beauty filled photographs.
