Becky & Blair

I am utterly smitten with Becky and Blair’s sparkling gold and marsala wedding. From the epic party vibes to the bride’s amazing sparkling golden wedding gown, the autumnal toned blooms and the restaurant reception. These two wanted a party and a party they got. But for me? It’s their story, the way they curated every detail that makes this one special, that, and that amazing light that only golden hour in Autumn can bring. Luckily Daniel Milligan was there to capture it because this is one for the “Reasons we love autumn weddings” books!

It was a slow burn for these two, in bride Becky’s words. “We met through friends. It took a few years to realise we were madly in love with each other but once we did it’s been on like Donkey Kong ever since.”

That epic golden wedding gown? Designed by Chosen By One Day. Becky adored her experience at their South Melbourne studio, remembering “As a curvy girl I was nervous to begin looking for my wedding dress. There’s so much pressure to lose weight for your wedding and many dress shops don’t cater to a curvier size. I’m also not a white wedding dress kind of girl but was a little caught up in what you’re “supposed” to do.
After months of putting it off, I finally bit the bullet and started looking. To my surprise and delight Chosen by One Day Bridal had recently released a curve range. I could barely contain my excitement as I’d drooled over their gowns for years on Instagram and Pinterest.
I booked my appointment and was so nervous when I arrived. The offices and staff are beautiful, at no point did I feel uncomfortable or out of place. The team made me feel instantly like a princess and as I tried on gowns I knew I was at the right place.
It wasn’t until the lovely Georgia saw how much I loved glitz that she told me some exciting news. Their Devine Emmer gown has just been designed and shot the week before in Capri for their next campaign, the sample was still in the suitcase but she felt it had “Becky” written all over it. As I pulled it on, I looked in the mirror and for the first time could imagine myself walking down the aisle. A stunning gown with flattering lines and the perfect amount of bedazzling, I had found the one.
I couldn’t recommend the team at One Day more. Everyone I interacted with was genuine, supportive and kind. Big shout out to Georgia, Adriana and Barbara.”

Becky and Blair chose urban venue Panama Dining Room for their wedding, telling “We didn’t want our friends hiking from one venue to the next so we had both the ceremony and reception at Panama Dining Room. The space was great as you can divide it into different sections. The food was also delicious and as foodies, this was a big drawcard for us.”

Becky walked down the aisle with her father to a friend’s serenade. “Our talented friends Ben Cameron played us down the aisle on the ukulele. Blair proposed to me while on holiday in Hawaii so we chose an instrumental version of “Lava” by James Ford Murphy. It’s a bit unexpected but it suited us perfectly.”

Becky and Blair were married by Paul Cameron, Becky telling “The ceremony was beautiful. Our celebrant Paul Cameron was wonderful and the readings we chose were “Blessing of the Hands” by Rev. Daniel L. Harris and “The Sharing of the vows”, read by our mums.”

Becky can’t speak highly enough of their chosen photographer. “Our photographer Daniel Milligan is incredibly talented. I’d had the pleasure of working with him previously and when Blair proposed I knew instantly that Dan would be my first port of call when it came to vendors. He’s so talented and captured the day perfectly. His knack for light and composition have created truly memorable images.

To his own admission, Blair doesn’t love having his photo taken, but Dan was able to make him feel comfortable and at ease. I can’t recommend Dan enough.”

Let’s talk about the flowers, Becky and Blair worked with Edward & I on Autumnal toned arrangements. The bride explaining “I had my heart set of a particular look and style for the flowers. When I met with Cassie from Edward and I, I knew that not only did she completely get me that she would do an incredible job at bringing my colour palette and vision to life. And boy did she deliver. In honesty, as I walked down the aisle I don’t know what I was more in love with, her incredible centrepiece or the man of my dreams beaming at me.
In addition to the end of the aisle arrangement, our bouquets are something I’ll never forget. Cassie and her team have a great eye, scattering coffee coloured roses throughout the arrangement to compliment my gown. Whilst dark blacks and rich pinks popped beautifully against the sparkle.”

Becky’s sister (who also doubled as her bridesmaid) created a custom denim jacket for Becky to wear. This touch of family was just one of many, shares the bride. “Blair and I have both lost grandparents in recent years so it was nice to include them in special ways. I wore my grandma’s engagement ring and had a brooch of my nanny’s on my bouquet and Blair proudly wore his grandfather’s pin on his lapel.”

The Autumnal tones set the scene for the most festive of receptions. “All our vendors were incredible. I feel so proud of the entire day and how all the elements came together seamlessly to create our dream wedding. The flowers, pictures, film, illustrator, band, cake, venue … everyone made it such a special day.”

For their first dance, Becky and Blair chose an old favourite “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” by Frank Sinatra.

Oh, and there was plenty of dancing to come thanks to the couple’s choice of The White Tree to perform all night long. “Our band brought the day to life” remembers Becky. “We used The White Tree Band and they were incredible. We decided to have a dance set first up and it really set the tone for the evening … we were there to celebrate, have fun and dance the night away.”

It was important to Becky and Blair that their wedding felt like a giant party. “Blair and I are both party people” she tells. “We love nothing more than having all our friends together for a night of celebration and we wanted our wedding to be the same. As an art director, I wanted a venue that had lots of personality.”

Right on trend, Becky and Blair had a custom neon sign made for their reception, the design complementing the stationery designed by the bride herself. Becky tells  “We love puns and fondly call each other bear so we have a custom neon sign made that said “we can’t bear to be apart. I’m an art director and designer, so I designed our invites, name cards, table numbers and welcome signage.”

Congratulations Becky and Blair! It was SO much fun to share your beautiful wedding day! Thank you also to Daniel Milligan for sharing today’s beautiful images.
