We love engagement shoots here at Polka Dot Bride. Nothing else quite captures that first glow of engagement where the scene is set for just you and your favourite person in the world. But with so much noise and so much “should dos” and “need tos”. it can be a little difficult to find a way to be true to yourselves and do something that is really all about who you are at this exciting time of life.

So today I’ve come up with 20 engagement shoot ideas to suit your style. Whether you love to spend your days outdoors amongst the trees or prefer to stay at home with a good book. Whether you love to dress to the nines or prefer a more laid back approach, these ideas are for you.

Spend your time in the city? I love an urban backdrop for an engagement shoot. Sky-high buildings, industrial streetscapes and stunning architecture can all make for the most beautiful of engagement portraits. Think of all that delights you about the city- your favourite bars, your favourite laneways and make the most of it.

Love nothing more than getting dressed up? Why not don a tuxedo and a favourite sparkly dress or jumpsuit for your management photos, after all it’s another excuse to get glam! I love the juxtaposition of formality against urban backdrops or something more wild and natural- imagine a floor length gown billowing in the wind in your favourite tone of blue or sequins glittering under the sunlight.

Sunset is magic. When else can you capture that amazing golden light? if you find yourself toasting to this time of day more often than not. Why not consider a sunset engagement shoot? Wide open fields leave you with golden grasses, the beach gives you shimmering water, the city gives a moody vibe. But that sunset? Always perfection.
