Charming Country Homestead Wedding

There’s something about a relaxed, country style wedding that speaks volumes to me (as a country gal myself!), and so I fell instantly in love with Georgie and Nick’s day. The couple chose an outdoor ceremony on the lawns of the beautiful Mount Sturgeon Homestead, and held the reception in the venue’s converted shearing shed. “Nick’s parents took branches from gumtrees on their farm, and fixed them to the rafters of the shearing shed!”, the couple tell of thoughtful touches that helped create the perfect atmosphere for their charming, country homestead wedding. Tony Evans Photography was on hand to capture the magic of the country backdrop, and their day.

Georgie and Nick remember, “We met each other while both attending Ormond College and Queen’s College at the University of Melbourne.”

Of her delicately stunning lace gown, Georgie explains, “We moved to Dubai shortly after getting engaged, so I had to hunt around the bridal stores in Dubai, but found that the styles where quite over the top for the country-style wedding theme we wanted! After searching on Instagram I found House of Moirai, which is owned by Barbaranne Heaton, an English expat living in Dubai working with the help of her Nepalese seamstress, Rapesh. Only catch was we started working on the dress only three months prior to the wedding, so there was a big push to get it finished in time to fly back to Australia. I absolutely loved the result; the lace sleeves were both comfortable and kept me warm, and the front slit made dancing at the end of the night much more manageable!”

Studio 2 Makeup and Hair created Georgie’s perfect wedding day look, and for her bridesmaids, who wore pretty, floral gowns from Reformation.

Nick kept it classic, with a black tie suit from T.M. Lewin, and matched his groomsmen with both the pocket squares and lapel pins – natural to tie in with the native flora.

The bride walked down the aisle to “Warm Love” by Van Morrison, sung and played with acoustic guitar by the amazing Luke Hindson. “We wanted a very relaxed and natural ceremony, and were lucky enough to have a beautiful country Victoria backdrop. We each had a close friend choose two amazing readings for the ceremony.”

The whole wedding was held at the beautiful Mount Sturgeon Homestead, in Dunkeld, Western Victoria. The bride and groom chose the venue because Georgie and her family had spent several Christmases there some years back, and she had always thought it would make a great wedding venue. “The homestead is run by the owners of the famous Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld, and includes a group of bluestone cottages for guests to stay in, as well as a beautiful old wool shed for the reception with exposed beams and a good solid dance floor. Jo and the Royal Mail were really helpful, sorting everything out at the homestead for the ceremony.”

The brilliant, native arbour for the ceremony was created by The Regent Florist, and Tori Allen Events made the luscious bouquets and flower crowns for the bride and her bridesmaids, and the lapel pins for the groom and groomsmen.

“We were lucky enough to lock down Tony Evans for the day and are so glad we were able to as he did such an amazing job! Right from the get-go, Tony made us all feel really relaxed about the photography for the day, and even when he was around taking photos he did so without making much fuss, yet still managed to come out with incredibly natural photos throughout the day. He really captured our day perfectly, and was such a nice fellow to be involved in our wedding day – we could not recommend him enough!”

Of what they really cherished about their wedding, Georgie and Nick gush, “Living abroad, being with our family and closest friends was amazing! Having the wedding in the beautiful country Victorian landscape of the Grampians – quite a few people stayed on the homestead’s many amazing accommodation options, so it meant everyone was able to kick on properly at the end of the night. Enjoying the whole weekend with those that could come across for the Friday night, and chill out on the homestead’s amazing lawns on the Sunday was also wonderful.”

Their lovely wedding video was shot by Lend Me Some Sugar, and tugs at all the heartstrings! The couple tell, “Both our photographer, Tony Evans, and the videographers from Lend Me Some Sugar, were there the whole time, were really great with our family and friends and blended into the group perfectly!”
