Alicia and Tim

Wet weather doesn’t have to ruin wedding plans, in fact it can make for the most beautiful of memories. Today’s celebration was filled with a little rain, but also with the beautiful love story of Alicia and Tim all unfolding in the chicest of styles, in South Melbourne.

Alicia kicks off the wedding with their story. “We met in late 2001 whilst living and studying at the University of Melbourne. Despite being neighbours for a couple of years it took the not-so-subtle efforts of my best friend and Tim’s brother (who were a couple at the time) to introduce us. Tim proposed, after 10 years, at the kitchen table on a random weekday morning!”

Photographs today are by Lakshal (Lucky) Perera  who always manages that just right mix of fun, chic photography with the most beautiful of moments.

Pete Walstab styled the bride’s hair, and  Nicky Hanley the makeup.

Alicia chose an Amsale gown from Jane Hill with shoes from Butter and her mother’s earrings.

Tim wore an E-spoke suit from Joe Black The Tailor .

Alicia and Tim were married at South Melbourne Commons Historic Hall, a wet weather backup plan. Alicia explains “The original plan was to hold the ceremony at the St Vincent Gardens in Albert Park however the weather on the day was a typical drizzly and cool Melbourne day of 12 degrees so we had to go to the wet weather plan – South Melbourne Commons Historic Hall. As it turned out, the quaint old school hall was perfect for the day and a great way to keep all our guests together for a celebratory drink immediately after the ceremony.”

Alicia walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon In D Major (Piano version).

Of their photographer, Alicia says, “Lucky (Lakshal) was the most unobtrusive 6 foot something Sri Lankan man with wild hair we have ever met! Seriously, he was just so warm and easy going and he helped make the day relaxing and fun. We met him for the first time in the lead up to the wedding and quickly realised he was our sort of photographer – not overly concerned with orchestrating elaborate poses and he promised to wear pants on the day!”

Alicia and Tim celebrated with their guests at Harbour Room, Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, St Kilda Alicia explains “The reception was a sit down dinner in the Harbour Room at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St Kilda. I grew up in Sorrento with a very boat oriented family so having the boats and the water surrounding us, and the view back to the city where Tim and I have made our life together, was just spectacular.”

Each table was named after a bayside region, Alicia telling, ” We had three big long tables and thought that naming them one, two and three was a bit boring. Tim came up with the names; Mornington (peninsula where I grew up), Bellarine (where he grew up) and Port Phillip (where we now live!).”

Guests received Macarons by Alpen Delicious as favors. Alicia remembering  bombonierre boxes, ribbon and stickers were all purchased online using Etsy, Amazon and Ebay respectively and the accompanying fresh macaroons from a local baker. We spent a couple of nights in front of the TV assembling the boxes and a very kind friend did the rest on the Friday before the wedding!” Each table was decorated with blooms from Hello Blossoms.

Food & Desire catered the reception, spoiling the guests with delicious drink and food.

When asked what made the day special, Alicia notes, “Honestly the entire day was pretty special; from staying in a gorgeous hotel, having my hair done and wearing a beautiful dress to having our own special bridal room at the venue with our own waiter! But really it was about sharing the day with our closest friends and family and eating delicious food, laughing lots and dancing up a storm!”

For their first dance, Alicia remembers “Our  first dance was to “Lucky” by Jason Mraz (feat. Colbie Caillat) played live by our band Tim Mitchell and the Tone Tone Semi Tones.

Congratulations on your marriage Alicia and Tim! Thank you for sharing your story with us! Thank you Lakshal (Lucky) Perera   for sharing the images today!
