We have a serious soft spot for weddings with great details, and Anabelle and Tyler’s day definitely delivered. Their garden celebration at Element Events brought together black tailoring, an incredible satin gown, hand-picked market flowers and Spanish-inspired lace, with plenty of DIY tucked into the finer details. Their friend Dakota from In Full Frame captured it all, making these photographs feel all the more personal!

Anabelle and Tyler’s story began on a two-day girls’ trip to Banff, Alberta, in September 2023. While visiting from Jasper with one of her closest friends, Anabelle wandered into the Rose & Crown bar and caught Tyler’s eye across the room. There was an instant connection, though Anabelle wasn’t quite ready to make the first move.

As luck would have it, she spotted an old friend who also knew Tyler. A casual, “Is that your friend over there?” was all it took. Not long after, Tyler approached Anabelle at the bar, introduced himself, and what was meant to be a quick hello turned into hours of conversation. They talked until the bar closed at 2 am, then carried the night on with friends at a nearby home, playing games, listening to music and laughing into the early hours. “It was one of those wonderfully spontaneous nights that you know, even while you’re living it, you’ll remember forever. Looking back, it’s funny to think that what started as a spontaneous girls’ trip ended up being the night I met my husband,” Anabelle shared.

Tyler had been working for months to execute his proposal plan, but time and time again Anabelle cancelled what she thought was just a fun couples shoot with their photographer friend. “One weekend I was determined to propose during our photo shoot, as I knew it was a moment we wanted to hold still forever. I messaged our friend a plan, and we woke up at 4:00 am and began our photoshoot. Towards the end, I could tell Anabelle was getting tired and, of course, hungry,” he recalls.

“When our photographer finally asked the code question. “Anabelle, what do you love the most about Tyler?” She began messing around, laughing, but when it came to my word, I took the opportunity to get down on one knee and ask her to marry me.”

Element Events in Warner, Queensland, was the perfect spot for this garden ceremony and reception. It had the perfect outdoor vibe, plus a marquee for the party later on.

Tyler wore an all-black look: black suit, black tie, black shirt and even black sunglasses to complete the outfit.

They had their closest friends and family in the wedding party. On Tyler’s side, the groomsmen wore matching black suits with the wide-leg and sunglasses combo. The bridesmaids wore fitted black strapless dresses. “Absolutely stunning in our photos; the consistency really added a special touch!”

Anabelle wore this incredible off-the-shoulder long-sleeved satin gown from Moon and Pearl Bridal. “It was altered perfectly to me, with a custom mantilla lace trim veil for that vintage bridal look,” she shared.

She walked down the aisle with her father on her arm, as Bon Iver’s “Rosalyn” floated through the courtyard. “Walking towards Tyler with my dad by my side was one of the most special moments of the day. There were a few tears between us as we reached the end of the aisle, and then, in one beautiful moment, my dad handed me over to Tyler, and I became his wife,” Anabelle explained.

On the eve of their autumn wedding, Anabelle and her wedding party woke up bright and early to head down to the Rocklea Flower Markets in Brisbane to hand-pick their bouquet flowers. “We chose orchids, white hanging amaranthus, and matthiola. That night, while doing face masks (of course), we hand-placed every flower, tying them with ribbon to secure. I’d describe the arrangements as elegant, modern, yet simple. Everything I wanted and more. That night was such a sweet moment with my bridesmaids I’ll never forget!”

For their ceremony, Anabelle and Tyler wanted something warm and intimate, like you’re having dinner with a big loving family. “We had all of the bridal party team say a speech, and our parents, our pastors, and closest mentors say a few special words over our marriage.”

They rounded out the ceremony with personal vows to each other, and exchanging their placement rings. “We had placement rings to exchange and wear on the day. We decided to hand-forge each other’s rings in Japan on our honeymoon (you can see it here!). Such an incredible experience!”

From the custom menus, the flowers, table settings, and confetti cones, Anabelle had to DIY plenty of elements for their wedding to bring their true vision to life!

Anabelle’s custom veil was Spanish-inspired and a significant part of her culture, so they carried that beautiful lace from her head into the custom sign you saw at the beginning of this feature! “She looked absolutely stunning, and it was by far the most unique style I’ve seen!” Tyler explained.

“Definitely our sheer lace custom sign as you first walked in! It captured the aesthetic and details of the event, and matched Anabelle’s veil!”

Dakota from In Full Frame is one of Tyler and Anabelle’s closest friends, which made her capturing their chic wedding all the more special. “We’ve had the privilege of watching her grow in her creativity and passion, and we knew there was no one else we’d rather have capturing such an important season of our lives,” they explained.

“Having someone we know and love behind the camera made every moment feel so natural, and we’ll always be grateful that she was there to capture the memories we’ll look back on for years to come. She is truly one of a kind.”

When Anabelle and Tyler think of their wedding, chic ceremony and party reception included, these are the five things that stand out the most:

“1. The People: Having all your favourite people in one room, celebrating alongside you, is what makes the day feel so meaningful.

2. The Little Details: The flowers, music, table settings and all the tiny touches that make the day feel completely like you.

3. Good Food & Good Drinks: A beautiful meal, a full glass and a table surrounded by the people you love it doesn’t need to be complicated.

4. The Unplanned Moments: The laughs, happy tears, little mishaps, and moments that weren’t on the schedule often become the stories you remember most.

5. Being Present: After months of planning, there’s something special about finally stepping back, taking it all in and enjoying the day as it happens.”

The last piece of advice Anabelle and Tyler are going to leave you with is this: “Build marriage on a firm foundation of love, trust and loyalty. Above all else, outserve each other in every aspect. Remember to always laugh. Never take yourself too seriously!”
