Luke and Jordern have a habit of making big decisions quickly and making them work beautifully. After all, this is a couple who booked a Europe trip together a month into dating and got engaged after Jordern decided, over the course of one very emotional Billie Eilish week, that he wanted to propose to Luke!
Their New South Wales celebration at Glastonbury Gardens in Austinmer brought that same bold, joyful spirit to every detail. With Honey Bear Films along for the ride, it was a day filled with friends, drag performances, handmade bracelets and memorable moments all around.
As Jordern stood there 20 minutes after Luke was meant to pick him up for their first date, he was ready to write off the whole thing. But the moment he found out Luke was running behind because he was making a lasagna for his friend whose mum had just passed, he knew Luke was the one for him! “Before we met in April, I already had my Europe trip planned for June. So, a month after we’d known each other, I asked Luke to join me! Which he did! Risky move that paid off perfectly.”
The plan was always for Luke to propose to Jordern, but one day Jordern decided to flip the script after a Billie Eilish concert. “I had tickets to her Tuesday and Thursday night shows. I went to the Tuesday show with my friend, Keturah, and at this show I could not stop thinking about Luke. Every song was about him. I was in tears, just filled with this undying love for Luke. So, at the end of the concert I asked Ket if I should propose to Luke at the Thursday night show. We laughed it off, but on the drive home, I kept thinking and planning. I spent all of Wednesday planning it, called Luke’s mum to get her approval, bought a ring at the jeweller, and booked a hotel for after the concert, all while calling my friends to see if this was an insane or a good idea. But everything felt right, as we have always been impulsive together and those decisions work out for us, like Europe did,” Jordern shared.
“So Thursday comes, and I have everything planned; the ring in a side bag was just purchased that morning, and Luke just thought it was a new fashion choice from me, completely unaware. So Billie started singing Billie’s Bossa Nova, and I was overwhelmed with feelings, and as it ended, I turned to him and got on one knee and made him feel as special and amazing as he always makes me feel every day.”
Luke wore a classic maroon suit with a matching bow tie and brown leather accessories. “I helped Luke pick his suit; the colour suited him so perfectly,” Jordern shared.
“Luke’s father sadly passed away a few years ago. So, Luke had a photo of his dad and his wedding ring in his pocket, which was a lovely way of including Michael.”
With a total of 14 people in their wedding party, Luke and Jordern wouldn’t have had it any other way. “It sounds like a big party, which it was and which is exactly what we wanted! I couldn’t imagine having my wedding without every single one of our friends there, every step of the way.”
While Jordern knew what Luke’s suit looked like, his own look was kept as a surprise for the aisle. He wore a stunning dark green plaid jacket with navy pants and a matching tie. “I tried on lots of suits, but when we started mixing and matching suits, this combination made me feel the most confident!” shared Jordern.
Their ceremony was held at the beautiful Glastonbury Gardens in Austinmer along New South Wales’ coastline. “The weather was perfect, and the environment fit our vibe perfectly.”
Vibrant pinks and oranges made up the colour scheme, pulled together by their talented stylists from Be Designed. “Bright, vibrant and fun! We didn’t want to do anything boring, and the flowers were included!” Jordern explained.
Luke walked down the aisle first with his mum, followed soon after by Jordern, surrounded by their smiling guests.
With the help of their celebrant, Kylie Sharman, Jordern and Luke’s ceremony was the perfect balance of jokes and tears. “Our ceremony couldn’t have been better. It was my favourite moment of my whole life. I wrote a script for our celebrant which told the story of us through humour, and our vows were a surprise to each other. They were so genuine and filled with love. We even had a matching vow of pointing out every dog we see to each other.”
Two shots stand out as favourites for Jordern: “It’s a tie between Luke and me walking down the aisle with confetti everywhere! And the photo of Ruby Jubilee doing a backbend and the whole wedding screaming and cheering for her!”
Honey Bear Studios took care of everything from behind the lens for Jordern and Luke. “Our photographer and videographer were so professional, fun and talented! They made the day so much fun as they fit in so well with our wedding party and made the photography experience so engaging! The photos themselves, wow, I still cannot believe how perfect they are!”
One of their favourite moments of the day was this private moment when Luke and Jordern opened Pokémon packs together. “Luke got some Pokémon packs to open on our wedding day, which we did during the photo session, which was so silly. I don’t think we pulled any amazing cards, but it’s nice to have some wedding cards!”
The best piece of advice Jordern and Luke want to share for couples planning their weddings is this: “HAVE FUN and make it your own! Don’t do the boring stuff if you don’t want to! Start your own traditions and make it unique to you and your partner!”
Their reception took place at Wombarra Bowlo, the perfect location to keep the party going and the vibe cool. “It kept the fun and silly vibe we wanted but also decorated beautifully so it still felt like a wedding.”
Their wedding favours were a labour of love from Jordern, making just over 160 bracelets with “L <3 J” on them. “Seeing everyone in their bracelet made the blood, sweat and tears of making them so worth it.”
The five things that made this fun and fancy wedding so special for the couple included:
“1. Being surrounded by so many friends and family while marrying the perfect man
2. Drag queens!
3. It was so fun and vibrant!
4. Having the legendary Ruby Fields perform our first dance
5. Our perfect cake by Made By Meema, with our fur babies on it!”
Speaking of that beautiful cake: it served as a last-name reveal for Jordern and Luke! “My best friend’s mum (Made By Meema) made our amazing cake! It was pink and orange with our two dogs, Morty and Eevee, as cake toppers!” Jordern explained.
“We did a name reveal! We weren’t sure which last name we wanted to take, so we let Meema flip a coin and decide. So similar to a gender reveal cake, we had pink for Campion and orange for Mcilwain and when we cut into it, it was orange!!”
If Luke and Jordern had to pick one song as their song, it would be “Kitchen” by Ruby Fields. And they were so lucky to have the woman herself sing it live for them. “I just remember laughing and dancing with Luke, unable to comprehend how perfect the day had been, including this moment, and then I just sobbed on Luke’s shoulder.”
After their first dance, it was time for the vibe to kick it up a notch – and who could be better for the job than drag queens! “We had so many drag performances, and it really made the vibe of the wedding stand out! I am so grateful for Ruby Jubilee for hosting our wedding and for Space Horse for doing her Chappell Roan impersonation!”
A huge congrats in order for Luke and Jordern, so please join us in doing so! Thanks to Honeybear Film & Photo for capturing every moment and for sharing them with us as well.
