It’s not every love story that begins with a cheeky “you’re an asshole” across a packed dance floor on Oxford Street, but for Geza and Tom, it felt like fate catching up with them. What followed, from a windswept proposal in the Lake District to a celebration overlooking the sweeping beauty of Freycinet, carries that same mix of humour and deep feeling. Set against the rich tones of autumn at Mayfield Estate, their day was full of effortless elegance, where laughter and tears blurred into one. Through Nina Hamilton’s intuitive lens, the vibes linger long after the last dance.

Geza and Tom met in person for the first time at a gay dance party on Oxford St, where he ran into Tom on the dance floor. However, it wasn’t the first time they’d interacted. “‘You’re an asshole’, Tom mouthed at me because I had blocked him on Grindr a few weeks prior. It was love at first sight, haha!”

One summer day, Tom and Geza were mountain climbing in the UK Lake District, walking side by side with their walking sticks. They stopped off before the top at a private little spot for picnic lunch. “I was admiring Tom’s sandwich-making skills as he offered me a crisp, the ring box was in the bag, and I just started saying no and crying. He said, “I haven’t asked you yet,” and got on one knee. I said yes and then proceeded to become delirious, and it was perfect.”

Opting for a monochrome look, Geza looked dashing in his plum look. “My shirt was also plum linen with a large collar, which I loved. I paired it with a vintage gold Givenchy flower brooch and some fabulous burgundy Gucci loafers with a bamboo buckle that my dear friend bought me as a wedding gift,” he shared.

Tom went for a more classic British-gent look with his black-and-brown houndstooth suit (a personal favourite of this author!) and a crisp white shirt. “Paired with some chocolate brown brogues, he was a dish. Mawson Ossa did an amazing job on both our suits,” Geza explained.

Wanting to spend as much time as possible with their guests, Geza and Tom had their private moment together before the ceremony. “It was so nice being with everyone right after the ceremony and sharing all the emotion straight away. I think that was the most special thing we did,” they shared.

Mayfield Estate was their venue of choice for this elegant autumn wedding. “I actually chose the venue when visiting my mum, who lives nearby in Bicheno. She told me about this new winery, and we stopped by when it was closed. I just knew that Tom would love showing his family this location, who would be visiting from the UK. It’s also right at the point when driving up to my mum’s that you see the beauty of the east coast and just think “wow”,” Geza explained.

“Jo, the owner who I called and called to get them to open as I was leaving the next day, she was amazing and made the entire experience/day incredible. Genuinely such nice people.”

Tom and Geza entered the ceremony together, hand-in-hand, to “Adore You” by Fred Again performed live by their band Oberon Lane.

They wanted the ceremony to just be about them, something funny, loving and devoid of cringe. “Rachael Calvert, our celebrant, she was amazing. Her readings and the funny stories she shared were perfect,” Geza shared. “I couldn’t stop crying during our vows. Tom was crying, which is rare; our guests were crying, then we just all laughed endlessly whilst crying.”

Instead of DIYing anything, Tom and Geza put all their dreams into the hands of their incredible vendor team! “For us, everyone was travelling from Sydney and the UK, so we wanted it to be the best we could make it. All our vendors were amazing, and we wanted the best food, booze, music, etc. that we could have,” they explained.

Working with their incredible florist, Murphy Bloom, and Stylist Freyr Studio, meant all of Geza’s stylish dreams came true. “Murphy Bloom did an incredible job on the day. I’m very particular, and I admit, I was a nightmare, but she nailed it, and I couldn’t have loved the colours and sculptural simplicity more. It was understated and chic!”

For Geza, the two best things about his and Tom’s autumnal wedding were the food and the location. “Season & Fire made sure we were full & happy, but the location, looking at the Hazards in Freycinet, and the amazing red sky we had at sunset, it was incredible,” he shared.

“And Jo at Mayfield: her kindness and that of her husband who served all the drinks on the day was really memorable. She said all of our guests were the kindest she’s ever had, and that made me feel weirdly proud of all our friends. We stopped by at Christmas recently and she gave us a huge hug and we had a chat.”

If there was one piece of advice Geza would leave for couples planning their own weddings, it would be this: “Make it as easy as possible for you and your partner on the day. Throw more money at it if you are in a position to do so. It’s meant to be enjoyable, not a choir. Oh, and make sure the speeches have a cut-off.”

Nina Hamilton understood Geza and Tom’s vision for their photography from day one, and they loved her for it. “She made all our guests feel like she was part of the guest list. I seriously don’t know how she captured so many special moments when it was just herself. I spent a very long time researching photographers because we didn’t want a videographer, as we believe a photo says so much more. Her ability to capture the entire scene and not just a posed moment is what made her the obvious choice for us. So happy we did!”

For Tom, the thing that stood out the most about their elegant wedding was the overall feeling of happiness, surrounded by their loved ones. “Geza and the team had planned an amazing day, and I trusted them without question. I wasn’t nervous, just excited,” he shared.

“But the happiness was the standout feeling and memory, everyone involved was happy, the venue, scenery, weather, music, people and the food all just had a happy vibe, and it genuinely made for the happiest, most fun and best day of my life.”

This shot of Tom and Geza kissing on the dance floor is their absolute favourite shot of the night! “We were surrounded by our friends all having the best time. It sums up the entire feel we wanted for the day.”

Instead of a first dance, as Tom isn’t much of a dancer, he and Geza had a ‘last dance’. “We chose to do a last dance to “One Last Time” by Daft Punk with everyone we love. It was the best.”

A huge thanks to Nina Hamilton for sharing this day with us, and congratulations to Geza and Tom!
