Let’s get to know Jono of Tubbzmix Entertainment a little better:

Weddings are the best to work on because….

Weddings are the best to work on because I get to help create a night that feels personal, fun, and completely unique to each couple, it never gets old. Every wedding has its own story, its own energy, and its own moments that you can’t script. Being part of that, and helping shape a celebration that feels authentically “them,” is something I never take for granted. Seeing a couple relax, enjoy the night, and watch their guests fill the dance floor is genuinely one of the best parts of what I do.

What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?

One thing people don’t realise is how emotionally invested I get in each wedding. You spend months planning with a couple, getting to know their story, and then you’re responsible for one of the most important nights of their lives. It’s a huge honour and a pressure I take seriously.

What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?

Reading the room – I love the creative challenge of reading a room and responding in real time. It’s a mix of instinct, experience, and connection, watching the energy shift, choosing songs that elevate the moment, and creating a flow that feels natural but unforgettable. That live, in-the-moment creativity is addictive.

What are you hilariously bad at?

The Nutbush… and I mean spectacularly bad. I’ve DJ’d hundreds of weddings, watched entire dance floors crush it in perfect formation, and I still couldn’t join in without looking like I’m buffering on dial-up internet. I can mix it flawlessly… I just can’t move my feet in the right order to save my life.

When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?

When I was small, I dreamed of doing something loud, fun, and a little bit chaotic, anything that involved music, tech, or pressing buttons. I didn’t know it then, but that dream ended up shaping everything I do today. DJing has taken me from playing music in my bedroom, then local pubs to running an award-winning wedding entertainment business, travelling across Australia, and being part of some of the biggest moments in people’s lives. I’ve gone from a kid obsessed with sound and technology to someone who gets to bring energy, emotion, and music to weddings every weekend.

It’s a pretty amazing full-circle moment, I’m basically doing the grown-up version of what little me hoped for, just with better speakers and a lot more responsibility.
