There’s no better way to kick off the Dopamine Issue than with today’s wedding! What do you get when you mix a cheeky Hinge meet-cute, a cricket-obsessed groom, and a bride with a flair for creativity? The ultimate recipe for Prue and Jacob’s fun, colourful wedding day! Their journey from the perfect first date to a dreamy riverside proposal set the stage for a celebration filled with bold hues, heartfelt laughs, and more than a few tears. With vibrant florals, bespoke outfits, and family at the heart of it all, this wedding proves that love – and a little Fireball – can bring everyone together. Thankfully, it was all captured by the talented All My Wednesdays!

Something Jacob never lets Prue live down is how it took her a week to respond to him on Hinge. Thanks to her response, they planned the perfect first date (Holey Moley and Abory Afloat!). “The date was planned for a week because Jacob had cricket plans (nothing has changed); we continued chatting, and my birthday hit. Impressively, Jacob was the first to message me a happy birthday at 5 am (again, I was impressed),” she recalled. “Two days later, we were both in the city at work Christmas parties, chatting the whole night. Both enjoyed our fair share of drinks, so we decided to meet up. So, Jacob came from Flemington to meet me at Crown. We caught up again on Saturday, and I knew this guy was my guy. We have been sickly obsessed with each other and inseparable ever since!”

According to Prue, the best day of her life was the day that Jacob proposed! With a jam-packed weekend looming, Jacob wanted to take a walk along the Maribyrnong River with Prue and Patrick, their dog (for no particular reason…), so he insisted they make time before everything kicked off. “We arrived and grabbed a coffee from Middle Child – one of our fav cafes. We headed out on our walk with Patrick. All was normal until he insisted I find a bin for my coffee cup. He then suggested we take the scenic route through the garden area. Jacob told me to hold Patrick as he needed to run to the bathroom,” she explained.

“I wandered off slightly before I heard Jacob call my name. I turned around, and there he was on one knee with my dream ring in hand. He told me he had loved me for a long time before telling me how nervous he was and asked me to marry him. I squealed with excitement and hugged and kissed him. 5 minutes later, we both realised I didn’t actually say yes, so I said yes (what a surprise).”

Jacob has always been a sucker for a bold suit jacket – so it surprised no one when he didn’t pick out a traditional black suit. Since he wears suits to work most days, he wanted something that was more unique to this special event. Once he discovered YSG Tailors, there was no going back – he was in love. “We visited their gorgeous store in Richmond and worked with the team to design Jacob’s perfect wedding outfit (complete with beer and bubbles, of course!). He absolutely loved his velvet forest green suit, featuring a low-cut vest and an oversized bow tie.”

His wedding party also wore custom-tailored suits from YSG. Wanting to create something they could wear time and time again, the group decided on a timeless, versatile look of the classic black and white combo.

Prue herself stunned in a fun custom-made gown from D’italia! “Being quite short, I always felt a bit awkward in long dresses when trying them on. I knew I didn’t want something traditional, and I’d always been drawn to the idea of a shorter gown, but I still wanted a more formal look for the ceremony. I found D’italia on Instagram and was excited to see if they could customise the perfect dress for me,” she explained. “The D’italia team was incredible, transforming my loose ideas into a gown beyond my expectations. They connected me with the amazing Mary, a dressmaker who brought a simple sketch to life in the most stunning way. My mini dress had big, puffy sleeves with pointed ends, and the detachable skirt allowed me to transform it into the perfect outfit to dance the night away.”

Prue’s wedding party had only one constraint when picking out their outfits: think pink! “And wow, did they exceed any expectations! I wanted each of them to wear something they felt amazing in and could wear again. They individually chose their own gowns, and the result was stunning—different styles, lengths, and shades of pink that looked perfect together.”

Each of the bridesmaids carried a different colour and type of flower, from orchids, dancing ladies and hydrangeas. All of these fun, colourful flowers came together in Prue’s own bouquet.

Something Prue and Jacob wouldn’t have changed about their day was having a first look and taking their portraits before the ceremony! Here, they could see the jewellery they’d gifted each other as a pre-wedding gift. “Jacob gifted me a stunning sapphire necklace that matched my engagement ring. It was the most thoughtful and special gift and looked fabulous with my dress. I gifted Jacob a gold watch and bracelet that was the perfect addition to his outfit.”

After visiting venue after venue, Prue and Jacob knew that the Post Office Hotel was the one the moment they stepped inside. “It offered the ideal blend of relaxation and style. The dining room was simple enough to personalise but featured stunning exposed beams and long wooden tables that added character on their own. We loved the flexibility the POH provided, especially the option to have both our ceremony and reception in the same location,” she explained.

“The streets surrounding the POH and the nearby rooftop created the perfect backdrop for our photos. The indoor/outdoor ceremony area allowed us to have an outdoor wedding while remaining sheltered from Melbourne’s unpredictable weather. We also wanted a venue that offered family-style meals. The incredible cheese station, delicious canapés, pasta for entrees, and the mouthwatering slow-roasted meats accompanied by fresh salads were simply delightful, and our guests raved about the food.”

Mardy from All My Wednesdays was the photographer for this colourful wedding – and Prue and Jacob couldn’t have asked for anyone more perfect! “Mardy has a great eye for detail, and she captured all of our wedding photos within just 200 meters of the venue. This allowed us to spend our day enjoying the celebration rather than travelling around for pictures, which was very important to us. She was professional, attentive, and genuinely interested in our vision from the start. Her communication was amazing, and she was always prompt and supportive, making the planning process stress-free,” shared Prue.

“On the wedding day, Mardy provided fantastic direction, capturing stunning photos that perfectly reflect the emotions and joy of the day. She has an incredible eye for detail, beautifully capturing both big moments and small, intimate ones. She even provided us with a very generous sneak peek gallery not even 24 hours after our wedding – so impressive! We were thrilled with the quality.”

As “The Book Of Love” by Peter Gabriel floated through the air, Prue walked down the aisle with her mum, Jacqui, and her Dad, Peter, on either arm.

Their ceremony perfectly reflected the fun, colourful vibe of the day, with Prue’s brother leading the majority of the proceedings. “We had the incredible Get Married with Pip as our celebrant. Pip allowed my brother to the ceremony while she handled the legal aspects, making the experience incredibly personal and special. Having my dear brother, someone so close to us, share our story and help marry us made the ceremony feel even more genuine and heartfelt. It’s a moment I will treasure forever,” Prue shared.

“Our ceremony was filled with fun and relaxation, accompanied by countless laughs. We shared our own vows with tears of love and plenty of laughter. My niece, Lucy, and nephew, Hugo, also walked our dog, Patrick, down the aisle, which was a wonderful way to include some of our favourite people in the day.”

Being a big lover of parties and planning, Prue loved the entire wedding process. “There wasn’t a specific activity I enjoyed the most; I really loved most of it (bar some stressful moments, of course). However, seeing my dress come to life was an especially delightful experience. It was exciting to connect with amazing vendors and watch them bring our vision to life.”

The top five things that made this fun, colourful wedding so special were:

“1. Marrying each other! The moment we exchanged our vows and promised to spend the rest of our lives together was truly magical.

2. Having our family so involved in the wedding made it even more special. I had my two sisters as bridesmaids, which was a dream come true. One of my brothers served as the celebrant, bringing his warmth and love to the ceremony, while my other brother took on the role of the MC, keeping the energy high throughout the day. Jacob’s brother stood proudly as his best man, and both our fathers shared heartfelt speeches that brought tears and laughter. It was wonderful to see our family play such significant roles, making the day feel even more personal and meaningful.

3. Friends and family travelling from far and wide to celebrate with us! It meant the world to us that loved ones made an effort to be there, some even travelling great distances.

4. The vibrant colours! We were absolutely thrilled that our wedding turned into a colourful explosion! From the bright floral arrangements to the stunning decor. The colours brought the venue to life, creating a cheerful atmosphere that set the tone for the entire celebration.

5. The relaxed, fun, and cheerful vibe of the day. The energy was palpable; you could feel the love in the air—not just between Jacob and me but among all our guests as well. Everyone mingled and laughed, creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone felt like family. We danced and celebrated long into the night, sharing unforgettable moments and creating lasting memories together.”

Blooms by Celia crafted the incredible florals throughout the day, absolutely nailing Prue’s contemporary yellow, pink, and blue theme. “Jane took our vague ideas and transformed them into a breathtaking reality that far surpassed anything we could have imagined. We were utterly speechless when we saw the vibrant blooms adorning our venue. The colours were so vivid, and the arrangements so elegantly composed. Her professionalism and kindness throughout the process were incredible, and her attention to detail and unwavering dedication made all the difference. We were continually impressed by Jane’s expertise and how seamlessly she executed every aspect of the floral design.”

Most of this fun stationery was DIY’d by Prue and Jacob – wanting to create something fun, unique and not super formal. “Using online tools, I designed the invitations, shot labels, place cards, and signage for the day. For wedding favours, we created custom Fireball shots and special chocolates for children and those who don’t drink.”

For their first dance, Prue and Jacob chose the song “I’m With You”. “Since we both find first dances a bit awkward, we wanted to keep ours relatively short. Our DJ from Mercury Entertainment Group did an incredible job seamlessly transitioning from our first dance song to the father-daughter and groom-mother dances, so we only danced alone for about two minutes. My favourite part of our first dance was practising at home in our kitchen; it was so special to spend that time together.”

Congratulations, Prue and Jacob, on this fun, colourful wedding of yours! And thanks to All My Wednesdays for sharing it with us.
