In a kaleidoscope of love and vibrant shades, Bonnie and Rhys’ colourful garden wedding was everything they could have dreamed of. Backdropped by the beautiful Lorn Rose Farm in New South Wales that was once owned by Bonnie’s family, Rhys and Bonnie said I Do surrounded by their loved ones. Captured by the talented Emma from Little Wildflower Photography and planned by Hunter Events NSW, it was the perfect celebration of their love.
Bonnie and Rhys met in their first year of high school but didn’t start dating until they were much closer to graduation!
Flash forward to 2021, and Rhys and Bonnie were enjoying a trip to Diamond Head. He woke her early one morning to go on a hike, but when they got to the spot it was closed. Thinking quickly on his feet, Rhys found another place nearby, and they hiked up to the lookout. “Once we got up to the lookout, he told me to turn around so he could take a photo of me, and when I turned back, he was on one knee talking (I was in too much shock to hear anything). I thought he was joking since he joked around with his AirPod case the day before, so I told him to stop joking. I then realised he was serious and lost my glasses over the edge because I was so excited, and he had to climb down to get them,” Bonnie shared.
Bonnie had six bridesmaids in her wedding party – her two sisters, sister-in-law, and three of her closest friends. Since the theme of the day was laid-back, Bonnie decided to do mismatched dresses and assigned each bridesmaid a different colour. They each found a dress that was their style, and all complemented the garden party theme of the day!
Looking ethereal in her cream Shona Joy dress, Bonnie perfectly matched the laid-back yet elegant vibe of the day. “I saw it online and fell in love with it instantly. It suited my style and the vibe of the wedding so well.”
All of these beautiful flowers found throughout this garden wedding were sourced and curated by Bonnie and her bridesmaid, Maddi. “We pre-ordered flowers months before the wedding; however, when we got there to pick them up our order, most of the flowers weren’t there (including all of the statement flowers and all the flowers for the bouquets). We had to completely change everything up. We still managed to get most of the colours we wanted in our flowers, and I think the end result was amazing,” Bonnie explained. “For the flowers, I was trying to tie in all the bridesmaid dresses, and I wanted them to look like they had just been picked from the garden.”
Rhys wore a beige suit with a crisp white shirt and brown boots, going without a tie. His groomsmen, his two closest friends and his brother wore matching outfits. “We picked that style because we felt the colour suited our bight wedding and didn’t do a tie to match the laid-back vibe.”
Their colourful garden wedding took place at Lorn Rose Farm in New South Wales. The moment they stepped foot onto the property, they knew it was the one! “It’s absolutely beautiful. My family was also the farm’s original owners, so it made it very special,” shared Bonnie.
She walked down the aisle with her mum and dad on either arm to “Only Love” by Ben Howard, sung live by their ceremony musician Howard Sherman.
To match their laid-back garden wedding, Bonnie and Rhys wanted a short, simple and meaningful ceremony. “I wanted it to be laid back just like the rest of our wedding. We both did short vows; we weren’t going to since I hate public speaking, but I’m glad we did.”
Bonnie had many favourite photos, but this shot of her and Rhys walking back down the aisle has to be her number one!
Their photographer, Emma Walker from Little Wildflower Photography, was the perfect photographer to capture this incredible day. Bonus points for being a family friend! “She was absolutely incredible and made everyone feel comfortable.”
As we said earlier, all these flowers were done by Bonnie and Maddi, and the confetti was made from petals and old, worn-out books they thrifted! The signs and a few decor items were also DIY’d by the pair. “I loved how laid-back and personal it all was; we had a small wedding of 50 guests, so only our closest friends and family. I loved all the colours and how happy everything felt.”
The top five things that made Bonnie and Rhys’ colourful garden wedding unique to them were:
“1. The family history at the farm,
2. Having all our closest people there to celebrate us,
3. Having our son Hugo there,
4. The weather was amazing,
5. Finally seeing everything we planned come together.”
Bonnie’s favourite part of planning the day was just how laid-back it was. It definitely helped that they had Hunter Events NSW as their wedding planners! “They were so helpful and made the whole planning experience enjoyable.”
The advice this loved-up pair wants to leave for future married couples is this: “Spend as much time as you can together on the day; it goes by quick.”
For their first dance, the couple chose “Lucky Man” by The Verve. They danced for a minute before they invited their guests to join them in their moment on the dance floor.
Congratulations, Bonnie and Rhys, on your colourful garden wedding! It was a beautiful celebration to view, and we’re so grateful to share it. Special thanks to Little Wildflower Photography and Hunter Events NSW for creating and capturing this masterpiece of a day!
