Looking for a honeymoon that’s high on romance but low on fuss? That will take you out of the rat race without taking all your time off to get there? And even better, won’t cost you an arm and a leg? Tiny homes might just be your answer! Let’s dive into “A Tiny But Mighty Minimalist Honeymoon With Tiny Away!” with Lisa Perkovic.

It’s a clear, starry night, the smoke from our wood fire drifts past the fairy lights and up into the trees. It’s not a fireplace in a country lodge or a fire pit outside a holiday home. I’m slipping into an outdoor wood-fired bathtub on a property outside Richmond, NSW and I can’t quite believe my luck. 6Sixteen The Banks is my very first ‘tiny home’ experience, and I tell you, I don’t want to go home.

From the wood-fired bathtub on the deck and the hammock out the back to the chic lounge area and cosy loft bed, ‘tiny’ is the last word I’d use to describe this gorgeous spot. Firstly, who knew someone’s sideyard could be so peaceful. 6Sixteen The Banks perches next to the family home of a gorgeous couple, whose 5-acre property has the perfect mix of rolling fields and leafy greenery to transport you out of Sydney just one hour’s drive from the CBD. We’ve got plenty of privacy, and it’s quiet, oh so gloriously quiet.

Second, this is a ‘tiny’ home that measures just 7.2m by 2.2m, but there’s just about everything you need for a minimalist yet marvelous mini getaway. We’ve got a plus couch that converts into a sofa bed, a smart TV (pre-loaded with all the streaming platforms you could ask for), a mini-fridge, a portable stove top (that doesn’t get used), a microwave (which we do use, to heat up gourmet ready meals we grabbed on the way in), air con, an ensuite with a nice big shower, wifi, gorgeous linens, throws, plants … and I can’t forget to mention the ability to order cheese platters, housemade banana bread, breakfast hampers, and even dessert boxes. Now we’re talking.

After an evening soaking under the stars, climbing the ladder into the loft, snuggling into bed, and drifting off without a single sound of the city to keep me from sleep, I’m sold.

Tiny Away Around Australia

6Sixteen The Banks is one of more than 90 tiny homes operated by Tiny Away, an accommodation provider that connects to land owners who “put their hand up” for a profit-sharing model that sees a tiny home arrive on their property with a small budget for styling and setting up as they like.

Keen to give it a go? Here are a few other tiny homes worthy trying:

A Dam Good View

The Yarra Valley is on your doorstep when you wake up in this sleek and chic tiny home in Dixons Creek, Victoria. Literally. The bed looks straight out through floor-to-ceiling windows out at the sprawling vineyards. Perch out on the deck with a wine or two and watch the light fade over the damn and beyond.

Dandelion Retreat, Lochiel

Lake Bumbunga is the stunning backdrop for this 155 sqft tiny home roughly 90 minutes drive from Adelaide. The property is pet friendly and is perched just footsteps from the lake. You’ve got all the mod cons you need plus waterfront views and a base for exploring the Clare Valley’s wineries. Now that’s winning.

Tiny Balloon House

Well, let’s face it, the name says it all. Tiny Balloon House is located in Canowindra, 40 minutes drive southwest of Orange, NSW, and when you’re in residence, you can go on your own hot air balloon ride. The owners organise guest excursions, including ballooning, so it’s up, up, and away! If you’d prefer to stay on the ground, spend the day blissing out.
