Kick off your shoes, because Hollie and Lewis wedding, right on the beach, is a stunning celebration of the sea, of sunshine, and of a riot of rainbow colour (seriously, this rainbow, pastels colour palette is going to knock your colour-loving socks off). Beautifully captured in relaxed, coastal style by Photogerson, this day will have you re-imagining, just how bright and beautiful a seaside wedding can be.
Music is a passion for both Hollie and Lewis, so of course, their paths first crossed at a concert! Hollie remembers “We met through friends before going to a gig together one night. We saw Steve Aoki and it was such a fun night. Our first date included McDonald’s being smuggled into the cinema to watch The Hangover 2 (very romantic!).”
Lewis popped the age-old question while the couple were exploring Iceland. “We were road tripping around Iceland in a camper van. Iceland had always been our dream destination where we couldn’t wait to visit. Lewis decided to stop for the night on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean for the night. Wild sheep were wandering around and the sun was setting, the sky was so beautiful. We were setting up for dinner for the night and Lewis asked me to come and watch the sunset with him first and then he got down on one knee and proposed. It was perfect. To top it off, it was the one night where we saw the northern lights.”
The day began with handmade paper pieces, illustrated by Katie Ford. “We absolutely loved the illustration that Katie Ford made for us that we used for our save the dates” shares Hollie. “The illustration was a map of Iceland and included the coordinates of where Lewis proposed. She is so talented!!”
Let’s talk about Lewis’ wedding day look. In Hollie’s words “To match our relaxed vibe, Lewis chose a navy jacket and sand coloured chinos from MJ Bale, as well as RM Williams boots. He loved his bow tie, pocket square and socks, which were from a small business in Victoria called Peggy & Finn. The set he chose was the Flowering Gum set.”
Hollie found her modern, two-piece skirt and top at Zimmermann. “I was so lucky to find my perfect outfit from Zimmermann when out shopping with my Mum” she remembers. “We knew it was the one for me after we both started crying after I put it on. My outfit was the Lovelace bodice and skirt, with full lace and beautiful details. The bodice had billowing sleeves, frills with a tie-up open back.
The skirt was layered with a bow around the waist. Whenever I imagined myself on my wedding day, I didn’t imagine myself in something too “bridey” and wanted something a bit different. I wanted to wear a dress that was me in every way and this outfit was just perfect.” Hollie added a very special ring to complete her look “I borrowed a beautiful ring from my best friend, Rachel’s Mum, Rosalea. The ring was very special and one that Rosalea had, had for years and years from Cartier. Rosalea has been a big part of my life since was little and it was so lovely borrowing something from her for my special day.”
The beautiful dried rainbow floral arrangements for the day were the work of Hollie’s grandmother Sandra, and Lewis’ mum Cathy. “I loved watching my Nanny and Cathy bring the most beautiful flowers together for the day. The flowers they created made the day sooo much more special. They both had such a lovely time preparing the flowers together and I loved knowing that they had made them together.
They chose dried flowers and spray painted them yellows, pinks and blues, to match our wedding colours. They did such an amazing job and it was so lovely knowing that my Nanny and Mother in law-to-be had spent so much time together, having fun, putting together these beautiful creations for our day. They also added in lovely touches like a silver horseshoe on my bouquet, for all the good luck to come.”
Oh and a special shout out to Hollie’s golden shoes! ” I LOVE shoes and when I found my gold strappy heels from Aeyde, I had to have them for the day. They were comfy and gorgeous. My earrings matched them perfectly, which were gold with love hearts from Reliquia Jewellery.”
Hollie and Lewis wanted their day to be utterly relaxed, the couple taking over a friend’s private beachfront property for the celebration, which allowed all the guests to stay nearby, says Hollie “Our most favourite detail from our wedding day was our location. It was perfect, from the beach, the weather, the sunset and the vibe that the location gave the day; relaxed, beautiful and fun.
We had our wedding at one of our best family friends’ private residences in Eagle Bay. These friends of ours have been a big part of our lives and we have made many wonderful memories staying at their property over the years. We always dreamed that our wedding day would be relaxed, with only our close family and friends with us to celebrate.
Our ceremony took place on the beach right in front of their property on the water with everyone standing barefoot in the sand. We had drinks following the “I dos” and then everyone wandered up the sandy steps to the house where we had the reception. All of our family and friends were staying within walking distance of the ceremony and reception in Eagle Bay, which made our whole day relaxed with people coming and going as they liked.”
Hollie walked down the aisle with her mum and dad by her side, to Noah Red’s rendition of “Simply The Best”.
Lewis’ favourite part of the day? “The joy and happiness of marrying my best friend! It was so great to have such a fun and relaxed wedding with so many close friends and family members that we weren’t able to see for so long.”
Hollie and Lewis were married by Brent Dickson- The Wedding Crasher. “Our ceremony was so lovely, filled with the happiest emotions. We wanted a comfortable, relaxed and intimate ceremony, and it was exactly that. It was the perfect way to say our “I dos”, by the beach with the most glorious weather with all of our favourite people with us. When Lewis and I saw each other, it all hit us that we were about to get MARRIED and it was very exciting and emotional.
We loved the vows that we wrote for each other the most, which were made just for us, for each other. Norman was the star of the ceremony, with guests laughing while he played under my skirt and then fell asleep right by our feet until the end of the ceremony. The ceremony ended with lots of cuddles, kisses and a celebration with all of our favourites, in the sand before we moved on for the reception at the house.”
The pastel rainbow tones were brought to life by the couple’s chosen wedding party, says Hollie. “We had three bridesmaids and three groomsmen in our wedding party. Lewis had his two brothers, Rowan and Keenan and his best mate Mitch. Hollie had three of her best friends, Rachel, Amy and Emma.
All three beautiful bridesmaids were in different styles of dresses and different colours, all dresses were from Bec and Bridge. Rachel wore pastel yellow, Amy wore pastel pink and Emma wore pastel blue. All boys matched the girls with their bow ties the same colour, all in pastel. The groomsmen matched Lewis in sand-coloured chinos and white collared shirts. We also had our little boy, Norman (our Boston Terrier) who was a big part of our ceremony and wore a Stylish Hound bow tie, collar and lead, with all matching colours to the wedding party.”
Hollie’s advice to you as you plan your wedding? Breathe it in! “Take in every moment of planning and on your wedding day; it really is the most special day of your lives, that you will never forget and cherish forever.”
“Luke was AMAZING! ” raves Hollie, of the couple’s wedding photographer. “He helped us bring our day together so perfectly and gave us fabulous advice to make sure our day was one to remember forever. Luke calmed us and made us feel so comfortable throughout the day and captured our day so perfectly so that we have all of the memories to cherish forever. Luke was so much fun and stayed to enjoy the night with us!”
All of the styling and furniture pieces for the event were the work of local hire company Yallingup Event Hire – right down to the “boat bar”! Hollie shares “We LOVED the team at Yallingup Event Hire. Hayley, who was our main contact from the team, was SOO responsive, helpful and lovely, she brought our day together so beautifully and was able to tailor things perfectly to us. Yallingup Event Hire was able to research and source equipment for us like a wooden boat for our drinks and even personalised it for us so that it included “Just Fitched” on the side.”
The decor? Handmade by the couple themselves. “We made our reception decorations using streamers in loads of different pastel colours to add to our colourful vibe. The streamers were hung above the dance floor. Hollie’s Dad (Drew) also made up a photo booth at the reception using beach sand, beach accessories and decorations, and a Kombi van, which was so much fun for everyone!” Hollie and Lewis credit much for the success of the day to dear friend Jane too. “Our beautiful friend, Jane, helped us plan and bring Lewis and I’s wishes for the day to live. We wouldn’t have been able to have the wedding that we had without her help throughout our planning. She is one amazing lady, the hostess with the mostess.”
The cocktail feast, under the blue night sky, was catered by Supper Road, a decision Hollie and Lewis well and truly stand behind, the bride noting “We also absolutely loved Supper Rd, who did all of our catering for the night. Everything that they prepared for the night was absolutely delicious. All the staff were so lovely too, which added to a lovely vibe throughout the night.”
These two wanted a reception, a wedding that was fun, so their choice of MC? Very important says Hollie! “Our MC’S on the night were both of our brothers, Alistair (Hollie’s brother) and Rowan (Lewis’ brother), which was such a blast and just added to the intimate and fun vibe that we wanted for the day. We also had our younger brothers, Adrian (Hollie’s brother) and Keenan (Lewis’ brother) on the DJ decks and the dancefloor was always packed!”
For their first dance, the couple honoured the first concert they saw together. “Our first dance was to “Heart Is A Muscle” by Gang Of Youths. We chose this song because we both LOVE it and Gang Of Youths was the first band we saw live together when we moved to London to live. We absolutely love them. We also wanted a short dance together before all of our guests joined us to celebrate on the dance floor.”
And while this was the wedding of Hollie and Lewis, there was one other very special couple who took to the dance floor for their first dance. “On our wedding day, it was also Lewis’ grandparents, Val and Ken’s, wedding anniversary. They never had a first dance at their wedding due to an unfortunate loss of a family member, so after our first dance, they had their very first dance, after more than 60 years of marriage, to their favourite song Unchained Melody. It was so beautiful and most of the guests were in tears.”
And with music being such a huge part of their lives, it makes sense that an epic playlist was an absolute must and building it was one of Hollie’s very favourite memories for wedding planning.”One night Lewis and I opened a bottle of red and made our playlist for the wedding together. We did this while in lockdown in Victoria and it made us get so excited for the big day and we had so much fun putting all our favourite songs together.”
The biggest of high fives and congratulations to you both Hollie and Lewis. Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us. Thank you also to Photogerson for sharing this stunningly colourful set of imagery.
