When you’re looking for the perfect wedding cake or dessert buffet look no further than Regnier Cakes. Located in bayside Melbourne, Melina makes treats that can be gluten free, nut free and dairy free (if needed) and including options such as cheeses, meats and pastries for the grazing table of your dreams. Croissants, danishes, cookies and mini donuts are just a fraction of her offerings. And then there are her wedding cakes – “filled sponge cakes (of many flavours), devils chocolate cakes, gluten free cakes, vegan cakes or our award winning Belgian mud cake”. And wait – it doesn’t stop there. There is now an online shop catering birthday cakes and treats and dessert boxes. And Melina has also joined forces with a couple of other wedding creatives to open The Bayside Wedding Collective – check it out!

We asked the Melina of Regnier Cakes five questions in five minutes:

Weddings are the best to work on because….

I love how every event if different, I love seeing the venues and seeing how beautiful they turn out. Unique to each client.

What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?

I create my own recipes, it can sometimes take from 6 -12 months to perfect a recipe. This makes my cakes different from everyone else, but also means I can work with couples’ favourite flavours to create something perfect.

What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?

I love icing and decorating the most, this is were the cake or desserts really come to life.

What are you hilariously bad at?

Painting and writing by hand. Give me a piping bag and I can write and draw anything, give me a paintbrush or pen and I’m hopeless.

When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?

At 5 years old I wanted to own my own cake business, at 16 I started my apprenticeship. I never looked back. I’m now 39 had my business nearly 9 years and just moved into a new premises which I hope I will be here until I retire, if I ever retire.
