Bringing many years of experience in her craft, Penny of Down The Garden Path Botanical Studio creates works of art in flowers. Using texture, colour and form are an integral part of her design process and her design style can best be described, as she says, as ‘deeply romantic’. She loves using the soft flowers such as roses, peonies, and the old fashioned and well-loved blossoms with delicate perfume and colours – each playing a part in stunning bouquets, and florals for your reception. The care and attention she pays to each and every bloom ensures that your floral arrangements and bouquets will be the most beautiful and fresh they can be. Penny also conducts flower crown workshops which are a fun activity to get together a group of friends and have a relaxing time over a glass of bubbles – so why not consider these for 2021?

We asked Penny of Down The Garden Path Botanical Studio five questions in five minutes:

Weddings are the best to work on because….

It is such a special day for the couple, one they will remember for the rest of their lives. Creating wedding flowers for a couple is a process that can sometimes start a year out from the event, so after all the planning and thinking that goes on behind the scenes it’s so very rewarding to see the finished product on the wedding day, the bride’s face when she sees her bouquet, the reception room alive with flowers, ready for the celebration.

What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?
It’s hard work! Most people assume otherwise, but it is physically demanding, hard on your body, messy and dirty at times, plus there are veeeerrry early starts to your days.

What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?

Definitely the actual designing of the floral pieces – feeling the flowers with my hands, smelling the roses, studying the many colours of the blooms before they’re added to a bridal bouquet, then combining the different textures, colours and forms to create a beautiful floral piece is very rewarding.

What are you hilariously bad at?

I create SUCH a mess when I’m designing, I’ve been told by many of my fellow florist friends how messy I am!

When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?

When I was little I was always happiest creating with my hands – painting, sewing, crafting, so in a way I’ve remained true to that.
