So you’ve decided. The wedding theme is… Sparkle. It’s going to be reflected in your dress, your jewels, your shoes and your styling. Oh and fairy lights. Lots of fairy lights.

But how do you extend it to your cake? While of course you can adorn your cake in embellishments (gems, jewels, glitter, fairy dust, you name it), your cake itself doesn’t have to be sparkly. Or it can be and you don’t even to stop there. It begs the question… How far down the glitter hole are you willing to go?

Working with your cake vendor, caterer or stylist to make the magic happen while keeping it balanced and beautiful, here are six ideas of how to add sparkle to your wedding cake, sweets or dessert table.

1. Sparkling Accents
Add a sparkly cake topper to an elegant but simply decorated cake for instant WOW factor. You don’t want too much distraction that will make the cake look more of a mess than a stunning feature or centrepiece. Add some gold and sparkle dusted chocolate spheres to your cake. If you don’t want to use a cake topper, place a gold painted chocolate sail or chocolate shapes for some extra height or an additional feature to your cake. If you want your cake to speak for itself and don’t want to add anything directly to the structure, place the cake on a golden/sparkly cake stand with a sparkly cake knife. And finally, sprinkle something that twinkles and shines around the cake table – that’s right, on the table. Not on the food!

2. Golden Leaves
Gold or silver leaf looks great, elegant and modern. It is beautiful when the light shines on it. You could also incorporate gold leaf or edible glitter onto personalised gingerbread or cookies. These could even be your wedding favours!

3. Gary Glitter
Edible glitter! Glitter doesn’t just come in gold or silver! There are so many options to choose from. Glitter powders look fantastic in navy, pink, purple and green. Edible glitter can be sprinkled on top of cupcakes, cookies, donuts and cake pops.

4. Pack A Punch of Sparkle
Serve a punch or cocktail which contains Goldschláger, a cinnamon liqueur with gold flecks! You can present this at a dessert table or at the end of the bar in a clear glass bowl with a golden sparkly label.

5. Other Twinkling Treats
Serve sparkling dessert canapés… Mini pots of Pannacotta, Champagne Jellies or Eton Mess topped with gold leaf and served with a sparkly spoon.

6. Signage & Styling
The food doesn’t have to be the star of the show. You can use glitter labels on gift bags or boxes. Use gold, silver or glitter plated cake platters, boxes, vases, signs & serving spoons/tongs to bring the concept of the sparkly theme together.
