If you’re looking for local-inspirations for your Australiana-style wedding, you can’t go past Bad Frankie for cocktails – they’re one of the few venues who only use all-Australian spirits behind the bar! Of course, we couldn’t resist asking them to share the recipe to their ‘Ken Oath Cooler’ with you for ‘The Australia Issue‘. This cocktail is a purely Australian twist on tiki drinks – if you love tropical flavours, definitely try this one next time you find yourself exploring Fitzroy in Melbourne.

Not only is the drink bursting with local rum (or rum-like spirits), but it is designed to be served in the most eye-catching native fauna mugs. They’re sure to give your guests a giggle and look amazing in photos! On top of all that, the drink’s name is taken from Aussie slang…but we’ll let you Google “Ken Oath” if you don’t already know what that means.

You can book Bad Frankie for up to 50 people for an event (we’re thinking their gourmet jaffles would make memorable and crowd-pleasing fare for a chilled out engagement party). They also offer private cocktail making masterclasses at the bar and can even arrange classes tailored to your tastes at your home. Such a popular idea for bridal showers or buck’s party celebrations.

Ken Oath Cooler by Bad Frankie

  • 30mls Adelaide Hills Distillery Gunnery Spiced
  • 20mls Adelaide Hills Distillery Bitter Orange
  • 10mis Ord River Premium Rum
  • 7.5mls Husk Pure Cane
  • 15mls lime juice
  • 30mls macadamia orgeat (see note)
  • 30mls pineapple juice
  • Gum leaves, dehydrated lime wheel, flavoured macadamias, Grevillea flower and/or finger lime, to garnish

Add all ingredients – aside from garnishes – to a cocktail shaker and shake. Strain over ice into an Australian-themed cup of your choice. Garnish with one or all of the garnish suggestions. Note: you can substitute regular orgeat (almond syrup) for the macadamia orgeat if you don’t want to make your own.

Ms Zebra Says: Who doesn’t love an Australiana cup of sorts – especially to drink a cocktail out of! A must try in Fitzroy and even better, at home! Hello novelty drinkware!!!
