Olga & Allan
Although a wet weather plan had to be enacted for today’s enchanting Sydney wedding, the romantic couple were still able to get out onto the harbour! With divine restaurant food, soft pink and white blooms and the bride wearing a beaded, princess style gown, we adore every detail! Gemma Clarke Photography captured the day.
Olga and Allan met with the help of an app. They share, ”We met on Happn, which shows people that you have crossed paths with. We worked only a couple of streets away so we would have been crossing paths all the time.”
Wanting an elegant feel to the day, the bride had imagined choosing a simple, fitted gown. However, she remembers, ”When I tried those on they didn’t feel special on me. I ended up with a beaded, tulle princess-style dress. When I tried it on, it definitely felt like ‘the one’.” The groom wore a charcoal, three-piece suit with ivory roses on his lapel.
Tall towers of romantic pink and white blooms stood where the couple were to say their vows, covered in dahlias, hydrangeas, roses and amaranthus. The bride remembers, ”The ceremony was at Ovolo Hotel, Woolloomooloo which was our wet weather choice, but we are so glad it rained because it worked out better than our original plan! We chose Ovolo Hotel because we wanted it to be close to a wharf to allow water taxis to arrive and take guests to the reception and also because it is a very unique and beautiful venue. We had a singer perform ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. My dad walked me down the aisle. We wanted the ceremony to be special but relaxed. We included an excerpt from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin as a reading.”
Having complete faith in Kiko Design, Olga was thrilled with the flowers on the day. She tells, ”I chose peachy and white flowers with minimal foliage. I found the florist on Instagram and loved all of her work. I trusted her completely so apart from the colours I left the flower choices completely up to her. The arrangements are contemporary but feminine. It is difficult to describe the flowers as she did such an amazing job, I don’t think I can do them justice!”
Overlooking Sydney Harbour while the rain stayed away, the newlyweds had photos taken by Gemma Clarke Photography. The bride shares, ”I chose the photographer because she manages to convey the happiness of the day in the photos and they do not come across as staged or forced. She has a lovely knack for capturing beautiful moments without you being aware of it.”
In planning the Sydney restaurant reception, Olga and Allan were clear on what they wanted. They tell, ”We wanted our wedding to be understated but elegant with beautiful florals. We also wanted the guests to have a restaurant experience and guests to be taken care of. The reception was at Sails On The Bay. The venue has views of the harbour and we have a soft spot for it because it was where we had one of our first dates. The food, wine and service there are wonderful.”
Thinking of their guests, the bride and groom took care of every detail. They share, ”We wanted our guests to be looked after between the ceremony and the reception. We had drinks and catering available after the ceremony at Ovolo Hotel and then water taxis arrived at Woolloomooloo Wharf to take guests to Sails On The Bay for the reception. For the reception we wanted guests to have a restaurant experience where they could choose their meals and we gave suggested wine pairings on the menus. We also chose wines that we ourselves would enjoy when dining out.”
Enjoying incredible food and speeches, the newly married couple chose ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ by Alicia Keys for their first dance. They remember, ”We were running around like mad in the lead up to the wedding that we didn’t have time to pick our first dance song until the day of the wedding. The band did an incredible job performing that song and hit all the high notes. I was a bit apprehensive about doing a first dance but it ended up being the highlight of my night! By that stage of the night, you are way more relaxed so the nerves fall away.”
Congratulations to our beautiful bride and groom on your wedding! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to Gemma Clarke Photography for your stunning images.
