Imagine a dinner party with your favourite people. You don your finest, you set the table, you light the candles, the smells from the oven start to filter into the air. That memorable intimacy is exactly what you need to imagine as you scroll through the story of Diana and Matt’s warehouse wedding at Sydney’s Three Blue Ducks. Diana and Matt skipped the traditions they didn’t want – they married by candlelight, they skipped their wedding portraits (more time for dancing!) With Nattnee Photography and the incredible Robyn Pattison making it official, this wedding is an utter dream.

Diana and Matt met online. “I’ve had some horrid online first dates but ours truly was amazing,” remembers Diana. Matt popped the question over a quiet moment at home. “It was my birthday and I took a day off from work to enjoy an extra long weekend. Matt proposed to me over a coffee and cake at home which was perfect – he knew I would hate a big public proposal. As the next surprise, he had booked in a night stay in the city during Vivid. Best birthday ever.”

The bride chose a white lace Zimmermann gown, sharing, “I did lots of online searching at styles of dresses and, after visiting a wedding gown store, I knew I was after something different; more floaty, boho style. I found the dress online from Zimmerman and went in store to try it on. Purchased it that day – easy!”

Diana and Matt chose Three Blue Ducks after the bride stumbled upon it. “We wanted somewhere local in Sydney, and to have the ceremony and reception in the same place. We didn’t want to have a big reception in a function room. We really wanted a place that was unique but had that rustic feel as if you were out of Sydney. Great food was also a must for us so we needed to pick a venue that had stand out food. My bridesmaid and I stopped into Archie Rose for a drink and walking past Three Blue Ducks was a sign saying they were closed for a wedding…that got my mind ticking over. After some research, Three Blue Ducks ticked all the boxes and, after we had our tasting, we knew we made the right choice. The food was incredible and guests commented on how it was the best food they’d had at a wedding. The inside of the venue was perfect to fit our rustic, green look. There’s minimal dressing you need to do inside as TBD already have great furnishings.”

Diana and Matt chose to wait until the sunset to begin their ceremony, lighting candles and marrying by candlelight. “Having our ceremony at dusk really added to the romantic vibe, with hanging candles and festoon lights outside underneath the vines at Three Blue Ducks,” remarks Diana.

Diana walked down the aisle with her father to Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’.

It was important to Diana and Matt that their ceremony be the focus, so they chose Robyn Pattison to make things official. “We wanted our ceremony to be honest and intimate and that meant finding the right celebrant to start off with.
I came across Robyn Pattison from a google search and loved her website. She was the only celebrant we met and we booked her straight away. She gave so many great tips to keep our ceremony personal and her passion for love is obvious. Matt has two beautiful grandmothers that were able to join us and it was Robyn who suggested we make a special mention to them and hug them at the beginning of our ceremony.”

Of their photographer, the bride shares, “Nattnee came as a reference from our celebrant Robyn. Nattnee has boundless energy which bursts from her.
She was so easy to work with and very accommodating and we loved the candid pics she took during the night – she has a way that captures the right moments but is never in your face.”

As a nod to the bride’s Korean heritage, Diana and Matt finished their ceremony with one very honourable moment. “Matt is Australian and I’m Korean. We had planned a wedding without the traditions of a Korean wedding, so our celebrant Robyn, kindly suggested we could add some aspects of Korean culture into the ceremony. Bowing is a huge sign of respect – so we had incorporated at the end of our ceremony as a sign of thank you, by bowing to both sets of parents, to our guests and to each other.”

While guests enjoyed charcuterie and cheese, Diana and Matt stopped for ten minutes alone to catch their breath – the moment remaining one of Diana’s favourites.

Working at an ad agency, Diana designed the stationery herself. Each guest received a sweet treat favour. Explains Diana, “I created the favours which were M&Ms in test tubes as well as making the candles in jars and the hanging pendant candles for the ceremony. We also had a kids’ area, so I created packs for each little one where they got to design their own ceramic money box and small games.”

The Flower Edit styled up the lush floral details, Diana sharing, “I love neutral tones with pink, so working with Nayomi from The Flower Edit, she really listened to us and dressed our ceremony and reception so beautifully. She worked with flowers in white, ivory and blush pink, adding foliage runners down our reception tables to add to the rustic look.”

The speeches were heartfelt, right down to the surprise moment from the bride, who explains, “I’m horrible at speaking Korean – can’t get the accent or words right and can’t carry a conversation. But I learnt a paragraph to say to my parents during our speech at the reception. It was my special way of thanking them for everything they’ve done.”
