Amy & Nikolai

The first wedding at this gorgeously rustic country style venue, Amy and Nikolai celebrated the day with relaxed & romantic vibes. With a mix of Australian and classically romantic flowers, incredible food and lush fields provided a beautiful spot for their guests to mingle and enjoy the day. White Lane Studio captured the day.

Having met through a mutual friend, beginning their romance while oceans apart, the bride and groom became official once Amy returned from overseas. Travelling together later on, Amy shares, ”We had gone overseas together, going through Dubai, Turkey, driving all through Europe and finally finishing up in Colorado, America. Nikolai asked me one day if I wanted to go snow shoeing so off we went, walking up this beautiful secluded snow covered mountain where he set up the GoPro to take a picture. Little did I know it was actually recording and before I knew it he was down on one knee asking me to marry him!”

Wearing a detailed lace gown from Sottero and Midgley, the bride accesorised with a long veil and flowers in her hair. She shares, ”It was a very romantic style lace sheath dress with an illusion deep V halter neckline and a scalloped plunging back. It was only the second dress I tried on and I just knew it was the one!” The groom wore a dark blue suit by Wolf Kanat with dark brown leather shoes. The couple chose a mix of pale pink and cream blooms, with Australian native flowers included from Fiddlesticks Floral Design, saying, ”We still wanted our day to have a connection to the Australian bush.”

Set outside and at the end of a beautifully built arbour aisle, the bride and groom wanted a simple ceremony. They remember, ”We didn’t want it to be too long and drawn out, we just wanted it to be intimate and really reflect us as a couple. We had the celebrant, Ceremonies by Catherine, talk about us as a couple at the beginning and we wrote our own vows to read to each other. It was really lovely and very personal. The ceremony itself was in the shade under a beautiful big tree.” The bride walked down the aisle with her dad to ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’ sung by Haley Reinhart.

Telling of how they held of the rain, Amy followed an old wives tale. She shares, ”I had been looking at the weather forecast every day for weeks leading up to the wedding and finally, the forecast had an 80% chance of a storm from 2-6pm. Our ceremony was due to start at 4pm and we had planned for the ceremony to be outside. A friend of mine had told me about an old wives tale that if the bride sticks a fork into a tree trunk the night before the wedding the weather will be fine. So, in the dark with torches, my maid of honour and I went out into the paddock and I stuck a fork into the tree trunk where we wanted to have the ceremony. The next day, when I was about halfway down the aisle, huge drops of rain started to fall on us! So dad and I were just laughing down the aisle and the rain stopped just after we started the ceremony. It was actually quite refreshing as it was so hot!”

Capturing the day and all of its beautiful details, White Lane Studio were sure to make the most of the beautiful surrounds. Nikolai tells, ”Amy had found them online and immediately fell in love with their laid back, candid style. The photos and video speak for themselves, they did an incredible job at capturing the most special moments.” Of the vendors, the bride and groom share, ”They were all amazing! Honestly, we were so lucky. Every single one of our vendors went above and beyond to create the most memorable day. Couldn’t thank them enough.”

Set in the lush paddocks and with a stunning barn style reception, this was the first wedding held at The Stables of Somersby, and we foresee many more in the future! The bride tells, ”The venue is my parents venue. It is such a beautiful rustic, romantic, country style barn with beautiful finishes. Mum is an interior decorator so her vision for the barn really shines through, it’s such a beautiful venue. It was extra special too as we all helped to build the barn years before the wedding so it was a very personal place to have our special day. Because we had both the ceremony and reception at The Stables of Somersby, it allowed us to still hear our guests having fun playing lawn games while we were off getting photos done so that was wonderful!”

Having free reign to style as they pleased, Amy and Nikolai added a lot of DIY touches. They remember, ”Pretty much the whole venue was DIY! It was very much a family effort getting everything ready for the big day. We also hand painted rustic signs to put around the venue, and had crystal vases that were Amy’s great grandmother’s which was really nice to have a piece of her there.”

A close family friend flew out from America to MC the night, and the speeches were both hilarious and special. Amy says, ”Nikolai and I just wanted the day to have a relaxed atmosphere and to be a lot of fun. It was exactly what we wanted and more!” The newlyweds had their first dance to ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’, an acoustic cover by Susan Wong. They remember, ”We didn’t rehearse at all for the dance, in all the craziness getting ready before the wedding we completely forgot to practice so we just kept it simple on the day!”

Thank you so much to our gorgeous bride and groom for sharing your beautiful wedding day, and congratulations! Thank you also to White Lane Studio for sharing your work!
