Gabbi & Lachy

Oh be still our barn-loving hearts, have we got a treat in store for you today! Gabbi and Lachy are all about the rustic country details for their big day. They wed in the bush, then celebrated in a barn and they did it all on a beautiful autumnal day. They chose the duo of Fiona and Bobby Photography to join their merry band and capture it all; luckily for us, so we can share it with you today!

After meeting at university, the two became fast friends – and eventually fell in love – before a beautiful weekend away in the Blue Mountains led Lachy to pop the question. In their very own words, “Lachy planned a surprise weekend away to the Blue Mountains (one of Gabbi’s favourite places and where she wants to buy their forever home and raise their future family). Lachy had the whole weekend planned including a special dinner at a nice restaurant. He took Gabbi to Hassan Walls Lookout in Lithgow to pop the question. Of course, Gabbi said ‘yes!'”

Lachy wanted to be comfortable, wearing pieces of blue and adding his own favourite brown shoes.

Gabbi wanted something simple and elegant for her look, choosing a Rue de Seine gown from The Bridal Atelier. “I wore the ‘Moon’ gown by Rue De Seine. I had loved the brand before getting engaged and couldn’t wait to try on some of their dresses. I definitely wanted something comfortable and relaxed, while still being super special (you don’t get to wear a wedding dress every day!) I loved so many of the dresses that I tried on, but the Moon gown definitely stood out as something special. I got the dress from The Bridal Atelier at Double Bay, which is a beautiful shop and the consultants were very friendly and helpful. Wedding dress shopping was definitely one of my favourite parts of the wedding preparation.”

The rustic charm of country venue Greenfields Farm Estate was just the ticket for these two, who fell in love with the ability to create their own style of the day. Gabbi tells, “When we went to see it, we loved it and it ticked all of our boxes. Ceremony and reception in one place. Outdoors. Fairy lights. Australian bush. Rustic. We loved that the venue was all D.I.Y. i.e. you choose your own vendors. It meant that our wedding was unique to us and exactly what we wanted. Couldn’t have been any more perfect!”

Gabbi walked down the aisle to ‘Bloom’ by The Paper Kites. She remembers, “I had a few songs in mind, but this was the one that got Lachy feeling excited and emotional, so it was a no brainer. My Mum and Dad both walked me down the aisle as they have both been integral people in my life. My mum is one of my best friends so I wouldn’t have had it any other way!”

Gabbi and Lachy chose Marry Us Sally to officiate proceedings. “I wanted the ceremony to be short and sweet,” tells the bride. “Lachy and I aren’t overly sentimental or serious people, so we wanted to keep it pretty light-hearted. Our celebrant Sal definitely helped us to capture this vibe. We had a close friend of Gabbi’s and Lachy’s sister, Caitlin, do readings, which they chose themselves. Our guests were also allowed to have drinks through the ceremony, which they said was one of the best parts of the day! Haha.”

Pushing Pansies styled the autumnal floral arrangements for the couple, the bride remarking, “Pushing Pansies in Newcastle did our flowers and they were amazing! I provided a few inspiration photos, colour palettes and had a chat with Morgan about my general ideas for the day. I mostly left it up to Morgan and the bouquets she created were absolutely incredible. We also had a foliage installation on a ladder hanging down the middle of our reception area and beautiful little jars and vases filled with flowers on the tables. It all looked amazing.”

It was love at first meeting for Gabbi and Lachy and their photographers. They tell, “Fi and Bobby were amazing. We actually didn’t even meet with any other photographers because as soon as we saw their work and met them, we knew they were the photographers for us. We both really got along with them, which isn’t hard because they are super friendly and easy going. We really enjoyed getting to do an engagement shoot with them as it gave us a chance to get to know each other, learn how we felt in front of the camera and have a bit of an idea of what to expect on the day. They were so good at helping us organise our run sheet for the day which meant that everything went smoothly. Our photos were incredible and we had so many compliments on their work. Couldn’t have asked for anything more!”

It was important for the couple to give their guests a good time explains Gabbi. “We really just wanted our guests to have a really fun time and to feel comfortable, be well fed and watered throughout the evening. In my opinion, there’s nothing worse than hungry or bored wedding guests!”

The onsite barn, with open sides, hosted the sit-down reception with a shared, feasting menu thanks to Fennel and Co.

On each place card sat a pin or ribbon, a symbol of the donation the couple made in lieu of favours to their favourite charities.

The bride made her own wedding cake, or rather wedding cake pinata! She explains, “I made it out of cardboard and paper maché and then decorated it with fringed tissue paper and tissue paper flowers that my bridesmaids helped me make. It was fun to make and everyone at the wedding thought it was such a cool and fun twist on a tradition. Instead of cutting the cake, we had our grandparents and our bridal party come up and give it a whack!”

A big congratulations to you both Lachy and Gabbi! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us. Thank you also to Fiona and Bobby Photography for sharing today’s stunning day with us.
