Camille & Periti
“Periti proposed the day before our nine year anniversary. The day before this I was rushed to emergency with chest pains while at work. At the same time, I was going to the hospital, Periti was picking up the engagement ring.” It’s funny how life works, isn’t it? This tale of two who met over their love of RnB at a Brisbane club did make it to the aisle; after the bride-to-be recovered, Periti dropped to one knee in their bedroom. She said “yes” and today we get to share their beautiful modern Brisbane day captured by Mitchell J Carlin.
The day itself was filled with details that reflected the couple. They were by the Brisbane River to honour the time they have spent there over the course of nine years, they incorporated cultural dances, handmade elements and made sure every moment was reflective of their life together. And that is, of course, what it’s all about.
The groom had his heart set on tails, but settled on a classic black tuxedo from Peter Jackson.
Camille worked with Ella Moda Designs to create her custom-designed wedding gown, inspired by one photo! She explains, “In March 2016 we were in Melbourne to see Kendrick Lamar. The day we arrived the Herald Sun had a front page spread on AFL player Tom Hawkins marrying his wife Emma. My cousin Kate and daughter Emily immediately showed me the dress as they knew that it would be something that I would love and also a style that would suit me. I fell in love instantly and kept looking at images of the dress in the months to come.
In September 2017 I met Ella from Ella Moda designs in Milton. I showed Ella the images that I had and she then began sketching. Ella was able to capture exactly what I wanted but also add instead of a flower feature, a bow feature as bows are my favourite and a long train. This custom-made dress took so much time, effort and patience from Ella and her team, and I cannot thank her enough. The transformation of the dress at each fitting was amazing and I love the final product. I felt so comfortable in the dress during the day and didn’t want to take it off!”
Camille and Periti chose Riverbend Terrace, Brisbane Powerhouse for their ceremony. “We wanted to have a connection to the Brisbane River as we had our first date overlooking it at Southbank,” they tell.
The bride walked down the aisle to Childish Gambino’s version of “Into You”. “Both of my parents, Maureen and Tony, walked me down the aisle. It was special to me to have both of them walk me.”
Paul Voge officiated the ceremony, which the bride and groom wanted to be short and sweet. Camille remarks, “Our Celebrant was Paul Voge and he ensured that the ceremony was about the memories and future.
The ceremony was relaxed, funny in places and honest. We had Tanu, Periti’s cousin say some words, and my close friend Leigh do the same. Our ceremony was short and sweet, but packed a punch as it was so personal about the both of us.”
Bakker Diamonds designed the wedding rings for Camille and Periti. The couple noting, “Camille grew up with Peter and his family living next door to her and her parents. We wanted the rings designed by Peter as it was very special to us to have that connection.”
The newlyweds remember, “Our bridal party are a rowdy bunch, which suited us perfectly. They were able to put our minds at ease on the day, and also help leading up to the wedding. There was much laughter had on the day with this squad.”
Of their photographer. Camille and Periti remark, “He is amazing and put our mind at ease. We felt so honoured to have Mitch as our photographer. He was with us the entire day, and even drove us to the reception in football traffic (our wedding was on the first NRL game of the year – Broncos v Cowboys).”
Brisbane Market Flowers created the lush arrangements for the day, Camille explains, “I wanted the bridesmaids to have foliage instead of flowers. As they were wearing black, I wanted the greenery to pop. This was done amazingly by the team. My flowers – I originally wanted tulips as they are my favourite. Bron from Brisbane Market Flowers was fantastic at explaining how that wouldn’t work in Brisbane climate and instead recommended other flowers to create what I wanted. I wanted a really big, round bouquet with some greenery. The bouquet definitely fit the brief.”
The newlyweds celebrated with their guests at the modern Darling & Co. They note, “Darling & Co was chosen because it fit our greenery theme and also we loved the vibe, the food and the space that we could use for styling and live entertainment.”
Camille describes the day style as, “Modern style, with a theme of black, white and greenery and a relaxed, party atmosphere.”
“We wanted to ensure that our guests had plenty of food, drinks, dancing and laughs. We think that the wedding had all of the above. We have been together for 12 years this year, so really our wedding was a big celebration with family and friends.” The reception kicked off with a traditional Samoan dance of the “Siva Samoa” complete with lolly-filled necklaces.
Family is very important to these two – their guests making some important gestures. “Camille’s brother-in-law, who is a member of the Cowboys, missed the first game of the season to attend the wedding. The reception was across the road from the stadium, but he still stayed till the end.”
Love, laughter and family were evident throughout the day – right down the favours! Camille explains, “My sister made 120 chocolate brownies as the favours to guests. On the Tuesday before the wedding, my parents, sister, brother in law and niece packed each brownie with a sticker.”
The newlyweds took to the dance floor to No Doubt’s “Underneath it All”.
