Alice & Marty
If there ever was a wedding that was free of fuss, then Alice and Marty’s relaxed Adelaide Sailing Club wedding is it. The couple ditching all the formalities to create a day that felt just as they wanted – a big party, filled with family, friends, drinking dancing and laughing! I think they nailed their vibe – every detail like the multi-coloured floral details, their delicious doughnut wall and tiny feet filled dance floor spoke of their own relaxed approach to their day. They chose Little Car Photography to join their merry celebration and capture it all.
The pair met twelve years ago as teenagers at a mutual friend birthday party. Marty surprising Alice with a motel room proposal before a night out with friends. Alice remembers “It was New Year’s Eve 2015 we were in Melbourne with a group of our closest friends, Marty proposed in our motel room before we met up with everyone which was exciting as we got to celebrate it straight away! He caught me totally by surprise I had no idea!”
She Runs Wild Flower Co created the bright, multi-coloured floral details of the day, as dreamt up by Alice, who explains “There were only two real instructions that I gave our florist and that was bright and colourful (and lots of it) and mixed matched flowers. I didn’t want too much structure or “perfect” arrangements. Our florist worked her creativity and it was exactly how I pictured it in my mind.”
The bride chose a simple gown by Grace & Hart, noting “At the time of looking for a dress we had just bought our first house and also raising a baby girl, we didn’t have the luxury of splurging. So I was keeping an eye out online and stumbled across my dress on the Iconic. The brand is Grace and Heart and even though it wasn’t an actual bridal gown it was exactly what I wanted.”
Alice remembers of the walk down the aisle “Our live acoustic duo (Girls Next Door Duo) played Notion by Tash Saltana, and my Dad walked me down the aisle.”
Alix Corry officiated the ceremony, Alice remarks “Since we are both quite awkward people and don’t do well talking in front of large crowds, we wanted it short and sweet, to the point pretty much. Our celebrant, Alix Corry, was amazing and made us felt so comfortable and at ease.”
Of their photographer, Alice tells “We used Sarah from Little Car Photography. I was a bridesmaid in her friend’s wedding a couple of years ago that had Sarah as her photographer so we already knew her work. She is bright, bubbly, hilarious and makes you feel so comfortable! She didn’t try and get us to do anything that we didn’t want to do, and managed to get amazing photos out of two very camera shy people!”
Both the ceremony and reception were held at the seaside venue of the Adelaide Sailing Club. “We chose the sailing club as it was perfect for what we wanted in every aspect” tells Alice, continuing “We wanted a beach wedding with the ceremony and reception at the same place. We fell in love with the large balcony space and glass windows as the sunset could be seen from all angles of the room. The food and beverage packages were exactly what we wanted and were so reasonably priced. It all fit in with our idea of having one big party!”
Family was so important to the couple who included them in every element of the day – right down to the surprises! Alice tells “Marty’s oldest sister, Lani, surprised me on the morning of with lending me a ring to wear from when she was a little girl. It was a fine blue patterned ring so it was my something old, borrowed and blue. It was so special and something I will hold close to my heart forever.”
Alice remembers “We chose Ho Hey by the Lumineers for our first dance. When this song came out it was very special to us as Marty was working away at the time so we found a connection through music when we couldn’t be together.”
The dance floor quickly filled thanks to Girls Next Door Duo, tells the bride “Acoustic music was very important to us as we wanted that relaxed vibe whilst people were eating, drinking and chatting before the dance floor got started, it played a huge vibe to our ceremony as it gave a rawness to the atmosphere. The main things that we wanted to be perfect were the music, food and drinks as we felt that if we got those things right then the right mood would be set from the start.”
“We loved hearing all the positive feedback from our family and friends. It was important to us that everyone had fun so it was lovely to know that that was achieved.”
“The one story that we still find ourselves talking and laughing about is when one of our oldest and closest friends, Pagen, who we asked to make a speech, announced she would actually be singing it! We had absolutely no idea so it was such a great surprise as it was so hilarious but also so heartfelt as well. (I just need to add that Pagen is in no way a singer so it took a lot of guts for her to get up and entertain everyone!).”
A big congratulations Alice and Marty! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us! Thank you also to Little Car Photography for sharing today’s gorgeous snaps!
