Astrid & Benn
If one could describe the perfect city Summer day, then I think this celebration is it. An urban cafe with bright details it was all about the relaxed vibes, the feeling of catching up casually friends, enjoying the gorgeous shade of the city gardens, and incredible surprises (I love what they announced right after their first kiss!). Jessica Mason Photography was there to capture it all in vivid colour.
Astrid tells us the story of how these two came to be. “We met on a dance floor during a night out after too many drinks! Not a really romantic, fairytale story but it worked out well for us.”
Astrid and Benn said their vows in Victoria Gardens, Prahran, Astrid telling “We wanted an outdoor garden ceremony and this was the perfect spot. The gardens were walking distance from the reception venue also.”
The bride walked down the aisle to “Higher Love” played on guitar by Benn’s guitar teacher.
Wendy McRae officiated the ceremony, Astrid remembering “Our ceremony was relaxed and intimate. We had the most fantastic celebrant (Wendy McRae) who helped us to customise every part of the ceremony to really feel like ‘us’. We had one reading – Blessing of the Hands.”
But as the couple kissed and turned back to their guests, there was one very special announcement they wanted to make. Astrid remembers “The most special part of the ceremony was that we announced to everyone at the end of the service that we were expecting a baby.”
Of their photographer, Astrid notes “We love Jess’s style and her way of capturing natural, genuine moments rather than staged shots. She captured so many special, candid moments on the day and we were not aware of the camera being there for most of the day.”
Bright and beautiful were the bouquets styled by Georgie Boy Flowers. “We were spoiled with the most gorgeous colourful flowers from Georgie Boy (florist). I simply requested lots of bright, vibrant colours and the florist did the rest. They did an amazing job!” says the bride.
The bride chose a lace gown by Lover noting “I love their whole range, but this dress really suited the relaxed, boho feel we were aiming for with our wedding.” The groom donned shorts from Saba, after a funny story, a favourite of the couple, tells of the groom showing up to a friend’s wedding in shorts on a 40-degree day.
“We were happy that we did everything our way on the day, and the wedding really felt like a reflection of us.” says Astrid.
The guests celebrated with a cocktail reception at Hobba Cafe. Astrid says “We chose Hobba because it suited the relaxed feel we were after for the reception. It is a lovely industrial looking space with exposed brick walls and steel beams. The building is a converted car workshop/garage. The staff were fantastic and so accommodating.”
Congratulations on your marriage (and impending arrival!) Astrid and Benn! Thank you so much for sharing your story with us! Thank you also to Jessica Mason Photography for sharing today’s gorgeous day!
