Britt & Dave
This beautifully fun Fremantle wedding came together with the help of many friends and family, whether it was organising the cake, flowers, food or transport! We love every sunny moment (and that gorgeous gown!) of this relaxed celebration! Shoshana Kruger Photography was on hand to capture the day.
Britt remembers some debate about how the couple first met, saying, ”We met after church in a cafe in Leederville. I personally thought Dave was a bit rude because he seemed disinterested in chatting at all. Dave reckons I bombarded him, asking if he would be my chemistry tutor (I am certain this was not the case).”
The bride styled her own stunning outfit, telling, ”I wore a plain white silk gown from Tuscany Bridal that was mermaid style on the bottom. I found some feathers in a shop just after we got engaged, so was looking for a plain dress to match – this definitely made dress hunting easier as it narrowed my choice! I accessorised with vintage style jewellery and one of my mum’s rings.” Britt had her three sisters and her best friend who had flown in from Phoenix as her bridesmaids, all wearing Coco and Lola dresses. The groom wore a woolen tuxedo in black with a silk lapel and bow tie.
With a recommendation from a friend, the couple chose Shoshana Kruger Photography to take their wedding snaps, and couldn’t have been happier! Britt shares, ”Shoshana made us feel very relaxed from the start and was open to ideas we had. Most helpfully she was happy to direct us and tell us what did and didn’t work. We love the photos she has given us! They really capture us and our friends and family so well, she has done an amazing job.” The flowers on the day were arranged by a close friend, with the bride telling, ”Rachel is a creative genius with a knack for craftiness. She arranged all our flowers and they were just beautiful! We wanted natives in dark reds and with lots of native greenery. I loved how wild they looked, each bouquet was slightly different.”
Spending a long time deciding on the tune, Britt says, ”My dad walked me down the aisle to ‘To Build A Home’ by the Cinematic Orchestra. It had such a beautiful, rich sound and it fit with our ceremony, even though we hadn’t really heard it before. We had the choir my mum was part of sing two hymns in the service and the song we walked out to (‘All You Need Is Love’ by the Beatles). That was really important to us because my mum passed away about two years ago. We wanted to have her as part of our day without it being too sad a thing for all those affected. It was bittersweet but very beautiful. The choir was my favourite detail, and the priest who conducted our service. He created such a special moment for us, and was just great at helping us focus on each other and the commitment we were making. He explained the meaning before the various wedding rituals, so that everyone there could be part of it.”
Little Creatures Brewery was the perfect choice for the bride and groom, with Britt sharing, ”We chose the venue because it had a relaxed, fun, festive vibe, plus it was where we had our first date. It was the first menu we saw where there was lots of food we really wanted to eat, and we liked that they did sharing plates for dinner. The staff also did everything – set up, pack down and styling, which was really appealing. They were so easy to work with, and did a great job on the night!” Having the ceremony and reception in similar locations was also important for the couple, ensuring guests didn’t have to travel far.”
Being a little uncomfortable on the dance floor didn’t stop the couple from having a brilliant time, with Britt sharing, ”Our first dance was to ‘Still Together’ by Mac Demarco. He is Dave’s favourite artist and it’s just a beautiful song. Admittedly our first dance felt a little awkward because we didn’t practice but it was still great fun!” And the groom tells of his favourite moment of the evening, when the guests were surprised by the Junkadelic Brass Band, saying, ”They got the party started and they were so fun to dance to!”
A huge congratulations to our lovely bride and groom on your wedding day, thank you for sharing it with us! And thank you also to Shoshana Kruger Photography for your stunning photographs!
