Rebecca & Kurt

With gorgeous florals, breathtaking city views and bow ties to match, the formality and sense of occasion that came with Rebecca and Kurt’s black tie Vue De Monde wedding was nothing short of beautiful. Rebecca and Kurt wanted a team of incredible professionals to bring their dream day to life. Starting with planners will&jac, they then chose photographer Ben Swinnerton to photograph their day.

A work placement brought the couple together, Rebecca explaining “Kurt is a Design Manager and I am a Paediatric Doctor. Kurt relocated from Brisbane to Melbourne through Hutchinson Builders, therefore without Hutchies, none of this would have been possible!”

The bride chose Luci Di Bella  to create her gown, noting “It wasn’t the dress I had pictured myself wearing, but as soon as I met Luci and the team and had tried on the dress I knew it was the one! It was the perfect style and shape, made of stunning lace. Luci and her team made me feel special, important and amazingly beautiful on the day. I visited a few shops prior to finding my dress, but a bit like Goldilocks, nothing felt quite right.”

Family was incredibly important to Rebecca on the day, who says “Kurt and I were married on my grandfather’s birthday, who was a very important part of my life growing up. As a special gift for me on the day, my mother had my grandmother’s engagement ring re-set for me to wear, and also lent me her beautiful sapphire engagement ring for the day. So as I walked down the aisle I had three engagement rings from the three generations of women in my family. It was very special and important to me, and it felt like those who weren’t there on the day were there in spirit. It also satisfied the something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new all in one go.”

Rebecca and Kurt worked with will&jac to plan their day, noting “We found will&jac online, and were blown away by their response to our email. We had emailed a few planners to get an idea of the process, and found the majority of them responded with their terms and conditions straight away, with little thought to the relationship required in such a situation.

With will&jac (Catherine & Clare) we felt at ease and comfortable that they understood Kurt and I, as well as the type of wedding we wanted, and it felt – in a way – special to them. We knew they were committed to giving us the perfect day. Each time we needed to pick a vendor will&jac were there to provide us with a number of options, with always fantastic first-hand knowledge. It made us feel relaxed that each decision was evidence-based!”

Rebecca and Kurt chose the Nymphaea Lake West, Royal Botanic Gardens for their wedding ceremony, the bride remembering “Our Ceremony highlighted the beautiful background of Nymphaea Lake West at the Royal Botanic Gardens. With its ‘Monet-like’ display of lilies and Japanese Irises, it therefore assisted in paying homage to our proposal in Japan. This was the perfect place for us to wed.”

Rebecca walked down the aisle to Pachebel’s Canon in D played by Carneval Strings. She tells “Our favourite moment was when I was walking from the car towards the wedding ceremony. As I walked down the path with my father, I started to panic because I couldn’t see Kurt. My father told me to be calm and said he would be there. And of course as I turned the corner to walk down the beautiful ivory aisle, I saw Kurt standing at the end. He was so overwhelmed with emotion he was crying, which of course made me cry too. It was a beautiful moment for us both and symbolised our lives coming together.”

Georgia Mills officiated the ceremony.

The couple made sure to include their four-legged friend in their day, noting “our professional dog minder (Ruth from Formal Dogs) was very attentive to our dog Jock. This was invaluable on such a hot Summer day – 37 degrees.”

One bridal party member had other things on her mind on the wedding day, Rebecca explaining “One of my bridesmaids was 39 weeks pregnant the week leading up to the Wedding. We always knew it was a possibility, and would you believe it, she delivered a beautiful baby girl on the day before the wedding. We missed having her there on the day but it was a pretty good excuse for why she couldn’t! The funniest part is that they have called the baby Mia, which we only later realised stands for “Missing in Action”.

Florist Victoria Whitelaw who upon finding out one of our bridesmaids wouldn’t be at the ceremony because she was in the hospital having just delivered her baby, organised for the bouquet to be delivered to the hospital instead.”

Of their photographer, Rebecca notes “Ben Swinnerton captured our day to perfection! We also had our engagement shoot with him which enabled us all to meet prior to the day, feel relaxed and feature some locations that were important to us and our relationship – which wouldn’t be as suitable to visit on our wedding day.”

Guests celebrated at the sky high Vue De Monde. Rebecca remarking “Both Kurt and I are big ‘foodies’. We love degustation menus and tasting different things that we might not usually choose. We were also against the idea of serving alternating meat & chicken dishes! With a large number of our guests travelling from interstate or overseas, our reception venue of Vue de Monde had both the spectacular food and service but also an amazing view and atmosphere to really showcase Melbourne at its best.”

Victoria Whitelaw created the incredible floral arrangements, Rebecca telling “We both LOVED the flowers, particularly the bridal table arrangements with their burst of colour and the ceremony floral arch.

Guest tables were styled with a lush hedge of mixed blooms arranged in an ombre effect with lime green blending into yellow followed by orange, hot pink and burgundy. The Bridal Table also featured two additional tall arrangements styled to match the table centres but with necessary added height. They also styled Vue de Monde’s lighting with suspended blooms and orbs containing tea lights. Each light fitting to be decorated in mixed colours and tea lights to match the table centres.”

Guests received favours of honey dippers by Sketch & Etch.

Rebecca tells “We danced our Bridal Waltz to L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole.” Orlando Combo provided music during the arrival drinks and dinner, with DJ Marcus from Allegro Music then kicking off the dance floor.

C2Films took this emotional film of the day.

Congratulations on your marriage Rebecca and Kurt! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous day with us! Thank you also to Ben Swinnerton for today’s photographs and will&jac for sharing the celebration!
