Megan & Jonathan
We love a venue with soul here at Polka Dot Bride and what better place to show your love than a stunning indoor nursery? Megan and Jonathan chose the beautiful Glasshaus for their fun urban greenhouse wedding, and from the choir that sang Megan down the aisle to the dessert that came straight from an ice cream cart Dijana Risteska was there to capture it all!
Megan wore a fun tea length style wedding gown designed by Vintage Rose. She remembers “I had the dress made by the most wonderful dressmakers at Vintage Rose in Brighton. I wanted a traditional style with a bit of my personality thrown in. I love waisted skirts and wanted a low cut back and ballerina length (I’m very clumsy!). I worked with Rosie to design my perfect dress! The experience was amazing, seeing the dress being made from the first calico fitting to the finished product was so special.”
The couple chose indoor nursery Glasshaus for their wedding, the bride telling “The Glasshaus was the first and the only venue we looked at, we fell in love instantly! We wanted a garden wedding but being in Melbourne we were worried about the weather. The Glasshaus is full of beautiful plants and flowers. We are very connected to Melbourne so the industrial feel of the former warehouse was ideal in connecting with our local setting. The wedding felt intimate and special in such a beautiful setting. ”
A choir sang Megan down the aisle, the bride explaining “We chose “Love me Sweet” by Carl Vine. I have sung this piece many times and fell in love with it. I had a small choir sing me down the aisle. (I cried the whole way!).”
The wedding, officiated by Jane Clifton was full of music, Megan telling “We wanted the ceremony to be short and sweet but full of feeling. As a musician, the music was a massive priority for me. Our celebrant Jane Clifton was fantastic, she included the perfect balance of humour and emotion. We felt so relaxed and happy up there with her by our sides. Instead of a reading we had a song from our small choir (made up of a group of my friends I have sung with over the years) The song ‘This Marriage’ by Eric Whitacre is set to an 11th-century poem by Jalal al-Din Rum. Whitacre wrote the piece for his wife on their seventh wedding anniversary and it is the most stunning piece of music.”
“Willow, Jonno’s six-year-old daughter was an integral part of the night. We wanted her to feel special and actively part of the preparation and the event itself, in the end, she out shone us all!”
Of their photographer, Megan remembers “Dijana Risteska was our photographer for the night. She was incredible – we could not be happier with our photos they are all so beautiful, we will have trouble choosing which ones to print. It was really important to us that we didn’t spend too much time away from our party with staged photographs. We wanted photos with our family and Dijana took us around the corner to a cute little lane for some snaps of just the two of us but it was only about ten minutes at most. Dijana managed to catch the feeling of the whole night in her photographs, most of our guests didn’t even notice her taking the photos so we have so many amazing candid moments.”
The day was filled with the support of the community for the couple. “Jonno’s mum made our lovely cake and my Mum did all our beautiful flowers. We had polaroid cameras for the guest book and I did the black boards. In keeping with our desire to bring everything that we love about our lives together into the event, we engage with the local businesses that we frequent every day. We are lucky enough to live on a street with a hotel, coffee shop, hairdresser, makeup artist and a cobbler all of whom played a part on our wedding day. In particular, our three favorite baristas from The Final Step helped out as our bar men…..(they are available for any function and now call themselves ‘The Soggy Shoe String Bar Boys’.”
The couple did away with a first dance, but that didn’t stop the bride. “Jonno didn’t want the first dance so my girl friends and I did a little routine to ‘Up town funk’ to get everybody dancing. It was a lot of fun!”
Guests were spoilt with a dinner catered by Lil Nom Noms and Short Batch. “Little Nom Noms food truck were great – the food was so beautiful and fresh! I think over all the best part of planning the wedding is how in love we felt, it is certainly a very special time. Also spending a lot of time with our families, getting everything organised together was a lovely experience.”
That, however. was only the beginning of the night. Megan remembering “We had an after party at the Cherry Tree Hotel in the back streets of Richmond. I wanted hot chips to finish the night so Jonno and I walked to Swan Street to a Kebab shop and finished the night with a happy tummy and 50 new friends we met there.”
Congratulations on your marriage Megan and Jonathan! Thank you for for taking the time to share your stories with us! Thank you also to Dijana Risteska for sharing today’s special celebration.
