One of the requests we get the most is how to style a beautiful natural bridal makeup style and continuing with our natural bridal style shoot (see our Luminous Waves Tutorial), we teamed up with some of our favourite Polka Dot vendors to pull together today’s look.
We decided on natural beauty for this collection of shoots because it is one of our msot demanded styles. Soft and beautiful this style easily traditions from day to night and is a great option for a bride who isn’t used to wearing a lot of makeup, or a style for your pre-wedding parties, celebrations and events. I love this natural bridal makeup tutorial for a bride who wants something a little glam and special but still very understated.
The lovely Katherine Eleyce (Ms Filigree) styled together this shoot with photographer, Captured By Pavel, hair & makeup artist Brea Mulder Beaute and our bride to be Ella at Sydney’s Beachside Dojo. Ella wears a beautiful gown from designer Gwendolynne.
Brea Mulder Beaute worked on Ella’s gorgeous hair makeup look and today we have all the step by step instructions, including the tool box of products we used, to recreate this it!
To ensure a smooth, natural base for your foundation, we always suggest priming first. We chose The Balm Time Balm Face Primer to soften the skin and begin the natural glow look we were after. Make sure you smooth this over your entire face.
Choosing the right foundation for this natural look is vital. You will need something that gives good coverage without creating a thick layer or looking visibly cakey on the skin. For this natural glowing look, you also need a foundation that gives a bit of a glow to the skin.
We chose Avon Ideal Flawless Foundation (in Natural beige) which is a lightweight full coverage foundation designed to blur any texture in the skin for a smooth finish.
Starting in the centre of the face, we used a Beauty Blender to work the foundation into the skin. Move back over any spots a second time for additional coverage.
To cover any dark circles and imperfections, we used the Bobbi Brown Creamy Corrector in Peach/Orange layered underneath the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Ivory. This product is so incredibly creamy it really sinks into the skin while giving good coverage. For pin point concealing, make sure to use a tiny brush to blend.
To ensure a flawless finish and absorb any oils throughout the day, set the foundation with a finishing powder (we used Ellie Cosmetics Illuminating Powder Medium/Fair). Make sure you only use a light dusting of powder to keep a natural sheen on the skin.
Add a touch of natural glow by dusting a champagne toned highlighter (we chose The Balm’s Mary Lou Manizer) across the cheek bones, above the brows, along the nose and at the cupids bow. Keep it light and make sure it’s blended well, going over the top with a clean blending or powder brush if necessary.
Time to define your brows! We added highlight beneath the brow using the Nutrimetics Colour Impact Eyeshadow in Ballet with a Zoëva angled brow definer brush.
For a natural look like this, we suggest sticking to neutral tones. We chose the Covergirl Eyeshadow Quad in Go For Golds and using the light taupe shade placed it all over the lid adding dimension and glow by gently buffing Curtis Collection by Victoria Mineral Shimmer Blush in Airess into the crease for a peachy pink look.
To give a little extra glow we chose an illuminating powder (Ellie Cosmetics Illuminating Powder) blending it into the inner corner of Ella’s eyes.
Keep the look natural but defined with a smudgy pencil liner (we chose the dark brown liner shadow from the Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes Palette on the bottom of the eye while adding a little more dimension with Benefit Badgal Black Waterproof Pencil Liner to the top line), making sure to place it close to the lashes. Using a pencil brush or cotton tip, smudge this along the lash line.
False lashes don’t have to look, well false! Choose a wispy pair to enhance your natural lashes while keeping your look natural. These Modelrock Lashes in Valentina 3 add lift and volume while still looking like they were meant to be.
Trim the lashes to the length of your lashline. Apply a drop of lash glue to the back of the lashes, or your hand and coat the rim of your flash lash. Wait for the glue to become tacky before using tweezers to help you position the lash just below your lash roots.
Apply a drop of lash glue onto the back of your hand and gently run the rim of the strip lash through it, paying special attention to the beginning and end.
Plenty of mascara is always a given with false lashes for a seamless look. We used The Balm What’s Your Type Tall Dark & Handsome Mascara to give the lashes a little extra lift while still allowing them to look natural.
Choose a romantic pink for your blush keeping the look fresh and neutral. The petal pink shade of the Curtis Collection by Victoria Mineral Shimmer Blush In Airess gives our model a pretty glow and just enough colour.
Using a Real Techniques Buffing Brush for the blush brush, blend the blush on the apple of the cheeks towards the ears.
To compliment the petal pink cheeks, we kept our lip colour romantic by using Covergirl Colourlicious Lipstick in Sweetheart Blush for a rose romantic pink and added Loreal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire in Rose Melody 101 on top to deepen the colour and add a little shine to the lips.
As a bride, your makeup needs to last from day to night with plenty of emotion and movement, so a setting spray is always a good idea. We set Ella’s makeup with the Skindinavia Bridal Setting Spray which is designed to allow the makeup to look fresh and also diffuses uneven skin texture – making it a great idea for photos.
