Eilish & William
Eilish and William wanted a 1920s inspired romantic wedding for the start to their marriage. They chose everything from a gorgeous vintage green car to vintage inspired florals. but it wasn’t the styling that made this day beautiful and special – it was that they planned the day to be as much about their guests’ fun as it was about their own. They chose Welsch Photography to capture it all.
William tells their story. “From the moment I met Eilish, I felt that there was something very familiar about her, and I was convinced we were going to be good friends. It wasn’t the most typical of meetings, as Eilish was conducting training at the office where I worked and, despite thinking that I was doing a really good job, I kept getting called into meetings with Eilish and my (then) manager, to discuss my progress. For a while there, I was really worried, because none of my colleagues seemed to be getting this kind of attention.
It finally clicked with me that the pretty Irish girl who was running the training program, might be a bit sweet on me. Mind you, this took about six months, during which I spent most of my time applying for new jobs, as I was convinced I was going to be fired. I can even remember telling her this at one stage. We laugh about it now. Eilish more-so than me, and I’m still a bit embarrassed that I was so blind about what was happening. Eilish likes to think that she caught me by persistence, but I think I just got extraordinarily lucky. Since then we’ve been inseparable and we couldn’t imagine life without each other.”
“My brother Julian and my niece Naomi, came all the way from Ireland for our day. This was very special as it was the first time in 10 years that the immediate family had been together. This was made all the more special as we had all members of William’s family, some who had traveled from South Africa, together as well. What a way to celebrate the joining of two families!”
The bride made sure to include elements of her family as much as possible in the day, telling, “There is a photograph of my father putting a necklace on me, that he had bought my grandmother when he was young. This photo is so precious as my father is also wearing a ring that belonged to my Grandfather on his hand. My grandparents had passed away when I was young and it was beautiful to have their presence captured in this image.”
Eilish wore a gown by Mia Solano from Luv Bridal with a lace edged wedding veil from Wedding Veils Australia.
Eilish & William chose The Sebel Resort and Spa, Hawkesbury for their wedding, marrying in the onsite chapel, noting, “When deciding what location we were going to use for our wedding, we really wanted to ensure our guests were comfortable and could relax without the worry of transporting from one place to another. When we viewed The Sebel in Hawkesbury we envisioned our wedding straight from when we pulled in to the gates. Our wedding co-ordinator (Kimberley Salmon) did so much to ensure that our day was perfect. We loved the flexibility of the venue.”
Eilish walked down the aisle to Kate Miller Heidke “Space They Cannot Touch”.
Lorraine Wright, The Wright Celebrant officiated the ceremony, the bride telling, “We wrote our vows together, and made sure to include plenty of humour. William’s Grandmother gave us both a Polish blessing and my father read out an Irish blessing for our marriage at the reception. The vows and blessings were very sweet and heartfelt, and throughout the night people kept telling us how much they enjoyed it all.”
“We had a big focus on making the day as much about our family and friends as we did ourselves. We planned meticulously to ensure that our guests felt as much as part of our day as we were and this paid off. Everyone seemed comfortable, relaxed and ready for a good party!”
Of their photographer, Eilish tells, “By the end of our introductory meeting, we confirmed that Karl was the photographer for us. His portfolio was full of beautifully shot, naturally lit images – telling stories about the people he was working with. Karl struck the perfect balance between getting the right shots in time and having fun with everyone, adding to the atmosphere of the day. He made us feel comfortable by getting to know us and really understood what we were looking for in our photos.
We are so happy with the memories he captured of our wedding and knew we had found one of the best photographers in Sydney. Even now, we are still getting compliments on how fun, down to earth and professional Karl was.”
Each guest received a very special favor, the bride noting, “My father spent a year growing succulents for the wedding favours, from seed. It was a beautiful touch and was something from the heart, grown with love. We also decided to use nicknames on the place cards instead of full names. My sister is lovingly referred to as “Little Norbs” which gave her a giggle when she sat down to find this was on her place card.”
Angels Florist created the floral arrangements for the day, Eilish noting, “The flowers – my goodness, the flowers! Our flower girls had beautiful wreathes created by the team at Angels Florist, who also created the beautiful centrepieces that adorned the tables of the reception and the flower pieces that you can see in the bridesmaid’s hair. We were in love with what they had done for us and was just the touch we needed to bring the style together.”
“The Gazebo (at The Sebel) where we held our reception was beautifully framed with french windows all around, letting perfect light into the room and paired with the amazing centrepieces from Angels Florist. When looking in from the outside, it was like a little world created just for us, our friends and our family. It was everything we could have wished for and so much more.”
Baker Boys Band gave ambiance to the event with live music, the bride remembering, “To help create a relaxing environment for our guests when they came in to the reception, we had Glen Whitehall from Baker Boys Band playing acoustic guitar in the courtyard.”
Of their first dance, Eilish remembers, “We were so nervous when it was time for our first dance! We never had danced together very much before however, when Glen (the singer from Baker Boys) started playing the first chord of our song ‘Never Tear Us Apart’, we fell in to the moment and forgot that all eyes were on us. After losing ourselves in the music and talking about the day to each other during the dance, we started singing to each other (which Karl captured so beautifully) and looked around the room to see everyone we loved dancing beside us. It was beautiful a moment for us, and a memory we will cherish forever.”
Thank you Eilish and William for sharing your day with with us. Congratulations on your marriage! Thank you also to Welsch Photography for sharing today’s wedding with us.
