Melanie and Adam’s Rustic Country Wedding

Melanie and Adam chose the small country town of Nundle for their wedding. Having featured on Polka Dot Bride before with their rural engagement photographs,  it seemed only fitting that we feature their wedding. Full of that beautiful country charm that sends one’s heart yearning for open plains and the fresh country air it turned out to be quite the rustic country wedding with all the trimmings. Captured so beautifully by Farrah Allen.

On how they met, Adam tells, “We originally met at our local church back in 2005 when Mel was still at school. She moved to Sydney and I followed a few years later and we bumped into each other in a bookstore I was working at in 2010. I invited Mel to my Church (and out for coffee to ‘catch up’) a friendship grew from there.” You can read more of their relationship stories and of course, see their engagement photos here.

Melanie chose a gown by Maggie Sottero  with her bridesmaids in soft blue gowns by Sheike, The groom and groomsmen wore suits by Topman and Roger David.

Plenty of the services were provided by family and friends – including the flowers! Melanie remarks, “We asked a lot of our close friends and family (who were also attending the wedding) if they would utilise their creative gifts for our wedding day. From the flowers, to the ceremony music, to the wedding cake, it was all done by people we knew. The best part was knowing that people who do live with us and know us personally, were helping us make our day personal and special.”

Melanie and Adam married at All Saints Anglican Church, Nundle . Melanie remarking “We chose a sweet, little white chapel that seated about 90 guests. It was decorated with flowers and heart trinkets, and although no air-conditioning – it was simply perfect.”

Melanie walked down the aisle to ‘Not Fire, Not Ice’ by Busby Marou.

The DAG Sheep Station, Nundle  hosted the reception, Melanie telling, “It’s a beautifully restored sheep station complete with a barn, shearing shed and old shearers quarters that had been converted into on-site accommodation for guests.”

Guests were instructed to find their name, which told them their table number and replace it with a Polaroid photo of themselves with a camera the couple provided.

Decorating and styling on the day was done by a close friend of the bride, who remembers, “Our good friend and interior designer Crystal completely took care of every decorating detail on the day. From handmade hessian bunting, to recovered old books for table decorations, to vintage glass bottles hanging from the ceiling. She did an amazing job!”

Crystal remembering, “My favourite DIY detail was the wildflower chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The morning of the wedding, I was swinging off a willow tree at 7am, trying to get the best willow vines to wrap around the hula hoops. Add wildflowers, fairy lights and voila!”

The first dance had plenty of good intentions, but on the night the newlyweds decided there was nothing better than just spending time together on the dance floor, remembering, “We danced to Gravity by John Mayer. We had every intention of practicing a ‘proper’ wedding dance before the big day, however time got hold of us and we never got around to it. On the night we didn’t have to worry about remembering each step to get our bridal waltz correct, but rather could just enjoy 4 minutes of uninterrupted time together.”
