Gemma and Richard

As lovers of their city, Gem and Richard made sure to showcase their favourite parts of Melbourne on their wedding day. From a beautiful garden ceremony, to photographs in their favourite bars and cafes, to a reception at their favourite breakfast spot. The day was captured by Gemma Clarke Photography.

As for how they met? The newlyweds tell their story. “Gem was the “door girl” at a private event, Richard was a patron. After her shift (and a few wines) Gem went over to talk to Richard.”

The bride and groom made their wedding stationery together.

The groom wore a dapper navy suit from P Johnson Tailors.

Gem chose a strapless wedding gown from Baccini & Hill paired with vintage jewels.

Gem and Richard chose Treasury Gardens, Melbourne for their wedding ceremony, explaining, “Treasury Gardens is across from the Fitzroy gardens, which was our preferred choice. Richard wanted to get married in a garden. Gemma works at a cancer hospital right next the garden we were married in. Some of the patients came to see us marry and even dropped off gifts which was particularly touching.”

 

Gem walked down the aisle to La Vie En Rose by Louis Armstrong.

The couple were married by Marnie Bicknell, who happened to be the sister of the couple’s wedding photographer. They note, “Our celebrant, Marnie Bicknell, is our photographer’s sister. Both women were perfect in their work and we are so glad we chose them.”

Of one of the funnier stories of the day, the newlyweds recalls, “We had photos taken in a bar called Cookie and a man walked up to Gemma and asked if she was single.”

Of their photographer, Gem and Richard note, “The Other Gemma (it did get confusing at times) did an amazing job both on the day and leading up to it. She got all the snaps we asked for and made us feel so relaxed. Whilst we didn’t meet Gemma until the day before the wedding (she is from Sydney, we’re in Melbourne) we were confident based on her previous work.  The photographs were posted to us in a gorgeous wooden box with our names and wedding date laser cut on the top.”

“We really wanted to showcase Melbourne. There were old city trams and photos in an upstairs bar called Cookie and our favourite coffee place opened up for their loyal customers so we could have photos taken. ”

Gem and Richard chose Friends Of Mine Cafe for their wedding reception. It was the first place Gemma took Richard for breakfast and seemed fitting to celebrate their marriage.

There were plenty of handmade details by the bride, who tells, “We hand made all the invitations, bonbonierre, the back drop, the menus, as much as possible. I love to be creative. She collected and sterilised over 1000 glass bottles (from the radiology department) which held our flowers on the tables and candy bonbonierre.”

Ab Fab Cakes created a three tier white wedding cake for the newlyweds. Alli O Floral Design pulled together the floral arrangements for the day.

Guests typed well wishes on a vintage typewriter.

Gemma made a fun paper pinwheel backdrop for the photobooth.

Of their first dance, or first sway, Gemma tells, “We didn’t have a dance floor, but at some point during the night there was some “swaying” that could vaguely resemble dancing. Or then again, it could have been just the wine…”
