Georgie & Justin

Today’s country wedding (held on a private property near Sutton Grange in Victoria) is a splendid event of colour, fun and whimsy!

Georgie tells of how they met. “We were high school sweethearts and met back in 1996 at a friend’s birthday party.  I had seen him around at sporting events as he was quite the athlete – tall, handsome (or ‘hot’ as a 15-year-old would say) and had a cheeky smile. He must have thought I was all right, too. On our first date we had a picnic at the beach. He had gone to a lot of effort and was such a gentleman. He told me later that he was keen to impress me but also very nervous as he’d had a crush on me for quite some time.”

Light, bright and sunshine filled photographs today are by Photography by Sarah J.

Georgie wore the “Sweet Pea” gown by Ivy & Aster from Studio White. She explains ” I was originally going to get my dress when we visited New York in September but quickly realized it would not arrive on time. The dress I wanted had one stockest in Australia, which funnily enough was in Tasmania. So the bridesmaids and I flew down to Tassie for the weekend and visited a lovely bridal called Studio White.  We had the whole place to ourselves and the ladies were absolutely wonderful. It made the experience so enjoyable and of course I found my dress.”

The bridesmaids wore watermelon pink gowns from Lela Rose. The girls styled their own makeup (after having trouble finding a makeup artist available) and used Florence and Maud Hairdressing, Kyneton (03) 5422 2180 for their hair. Georgie remembers,  “Julie was lovely and very excited to be doing our hair for the wedding. She arrived to the house early in the morning to start on my mother’s hair and the bridesmaids. Julie did an amazing job and we were all very happy with the end result. ”

The wedding has a bit of a bicycle theme with the bride arriving in a Christiania bicycle (from  Cycle Concepts) driven by her father. Georgie remembers, “My dad was meant to pick up the bridesmaids and I from the cottage that we were staying at (15mins) away but with everything that was going on he lost track of time. So there we were waiting outside the gates for him to come, (after calling to see if anyone was picking us up) and dad comes zooming down the dirt road so the dust starts flying everywhere. We are all signalling him to stop so I had to run back round the gate with the girls putting a barrier up in front of me. It was pretty funny!”

Georgie says “We got married at Mica Grange as we had fallen in love with the beauty and magic of this amazing place and wanted everyone else to experience its delightful charm. Mica Grange is a place like no other. A haven of peace and tranquility in the heart of Sutton Grange. Its unique location offers stunning panoramas from every aspect/outlook, providing you with breathtaking views of Mount Alexander, the valley with its granite rock formations and the beautiful surrounding gardens. Both of us love Mica Grange and have many special memories from there. It is an establishment where one can expect a magic charm to be cast over them time and time again.”

Georgie remarks, “The colour scheme was bright yellows, oranges, reds and pinks, and the theme was bikes, so we had vintage bikes placed all around the property with flowers in each basket. We had giant yellow balloons too, big enough to carry you away.”

There were even flowers for the ceremony spot. Georgie recalls “My parents had been working on the garden for the past year to make it as beautiful as it was. My mother had been collecting rose petals for us to stand in for the ceremony.”

Georgie walked down the aisle to the Glee version of “Songbird.”

Georgie loved “Seeing people happy, having lots of fun and smiling throughout the big day. The weather was perfect, it was such a magical day and things ran very smoothly.”

Roland Schaedle Fine Food Catering, Kyneton catered the wedding. Georgie explains “A formal sit down dinner wasn’t really our style we wanted it to be a bit more fun so we decided on canapés and small bowls of food on the lawn. Ice – creams came out first followed by drinks in Mason Jars with paper straws to match the colour scheme. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. More and more food just kept coming out so the guests were very happy. ”

All of the decorations were handmade – including the giant picture frame which James made himself!

For their first dance Georgie remembers, “Our first dance was to L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole and after only 3 lessons it was time to debut our dance. We thought we would be extremely nervous but once the music started, the swing beat helped us relax. We pulled our turns, dips and even the lift, it was great fun!”

The wedding cake was “Made by my mother & brother. I wanted a croquembouche or croquembouche-style cake, but with macarons which was a bit more difficult to find. So, my brother being a chef and my mother being the most amazing cook ever, they decided that they would make it themselves.
It had three tiers and was surrounded by raspberry and vanilla macarons. It looked sensational and tasted spectacular.”
