Engagement Shoot

After being together for seven years, living together for three, moving away from our family and friends to a new town and adopting four dogs and a horse, my high school sweetheart Matt asked me to be his wife. It happened while we were sitting on the back of his ute with a beer at sunset atop the beautiful farm we managed. It was perfect.

Fast forward three months .. we were moving house, both starting new jobs and we hadn’t gotten around to taking any engagement photos like I had wanted to. Life got in the way. Enter the lovely Louise from Sunny + Scout Photography, a fellow blogger. She is an absolute whiz behind the lens, not to mention how relaxed and fun she would certainly make the shoot. So on a sunny evening on our farm we went for a stroll with Lou. We wanted to capture images of us in our home, surrounded by familiar sites, smells and sounds, where we could relax and have the photos be a true reflection of our rural lifestyle – us, in this moment in time, newly engaged, happy, hopeful for our future.

We spent the evening in wide open spaces of long dry grass and rolling hills with my horses Midnight and Danny, who I have had since I was a little girl. We came armed with props and furniture to give a relaxed vintage feel to the shoot: a picnic basket, cloth bound books, vintage dresser and chair, milk bottles and a vintage camera in a nod to my own photography passion.

Ms Gingham says: Emma has given us such inspiring words and this post is no exception. The photography alone is so gorgeous and captures beautifully who Emma and Matt really are. So timeless …

In Emma’s words: I am a 24 year old country girl who lives on a sheep and potato farm in the beautiful green Gippsland hills, Victoria. My hubby-to-be and I are high school sweet hearts and are planning a early summer 2011 wedding on our farm, full of rustic elegant touches, hay bales, lace, kraft paper and logistical nightmares of having a marquee wedding in the middle of a paddock! I share all our adventures on my blog Cinderella at Brindabella.
