Autumn in the Adelaide Hills is quite something. The moody mist, the deep rich tones and the sense of an escape from city life. In honour of the South Australia issue, and with all the moody Autumn vibes in store, Lane and Finn’s day is sure to sweep you off your feet.
There are puppy dogs, a dual walk down the aisle, amazing food and wine and a setting that visually, is hard to beat. Every single moment captured beautifully by Lifesketch Films.
The day embraced every single bit of that Autumn season, says Lane. “We chose an Autumn theme, using earthy colours, rustic, raw. The day was just amazing – so much love, laughter and friendship. The whole thing was magical. But I think having all our family there, particularly with COVID, was the highlight.”
Perfect really, for a couple who met, with the same dog who stars in their wedding, by the sea. Lane tells the story. “We met at West Beach – I was walking my six-month-old Labrador puppy and we met Finn on the way. To be honest, I think it was the dog who made the first impression!!!
The proposal didn’t quite go as plan, but we’d say it was still actual perfection! Lane remembering “Both Finn and I talked about proposing to each other and it became a joke about who would propose first. I thought I’d be smart and get engagement rings which I did one Saturday and placed an order. I sent a photo to Finn’s mum to ask her if she thought he would like it but accidentally sent it to the wrong person (not Finn). Later that day, I was responding to text messages and Finn saw the photo on my phone (didn’t know what it was) and asked to see it. I just started laughing – I had intended to wait until the rings arrived before I proposed but I completely stuffed it! But he said yes.”
The grooms wore black tie, finding their suits at Joseph Uzumcu. Lane telling “Finn had the idea of black tie. We went to several places and then we settled on a tailor in the city to make our suits. We chose French navy suits with matching bow ties for all the men in the wedding party, but Finn and I both wore a cream coloured jacket which was custom made for the occasion.”
Lane and Finn dressed for the wedding together, before they had a mini pre-ceremony photo session. Their photographers? A decision these two highly recommend. “They were amazing! Chris and Marie from Lifesketch – couldn’t have been more amazing.”
Lane has this advice for you if you are yet to walk down the aisle. “Enjoy your wedding day – don’t allow yourself to get stressed about it being perfect; the perfect wedding is the one that you enjoy so much you just want to do it over and over again!”
The couple chose the historic venue Mount Lofty House for their venue, telling “We were particularly excited as we had a lot of family from interstate and felt we got to show off a bit of South Australia with the amazing view of the Basket Ranges. Mount Lofty House was amazing in organising everything. The food and wine package at Mount Lofty House was our favourite part of planning – we loved going up there for a tasting!!!”
Committed to doing their wedding their way, Lane and Finn both walked down the aisle to “Colour Me In” by Damien Rice performed by Aurora String Quartet. Says Lane “Both Finn and I walked the last part of the aisle together with our dog (the same Labrador who was there at the original meeting right years before!).
My parents walked with me and Finn’s mum walked with him. We had live music and the song we chose to walk to was Colour Me In by Damien Rice, performed by a live guitarist/singer and string quartet. I arranged the music for the ceremony (ie. wrote the string parts for Colour Me In).”
Finn remembers that the ceremony was his favourite part of the day. “For me, our ceremony was definitively the most memorable moment of the day.
All the hype and restless angst about how our guests were feeling or how the schedule was running was washed away immediately as musicians began playing the familiar tune of our chosen ceremony song.”
The ceremony as personal as the rest of the day. “We wrote our vows” remembers Lane. “There were no readings per se but the music was very special to the service.”
With Autumn colours in full flourish in their resounding hues, Lane and Finn honoured the same tones throughout their decor of the day. Their bridesmaids in antique rose, emerald green and sage green gowns, the flowers tying the look together. Lane noting “The boys all wore French navy suit + bow tie.
The girls each chose their gown to suit their style from a colour palette of autumn colours. We went fairly minimal, but again the flowers all matched the colour palette of Autumn colours.”
There were so many standout vendors that these two urge you to book yourself, but here are three Lane and Finn highly recommend. “To be honest all of our vendors were equally amazing. Ash Gale and Aurora String Quartet (musicians), Lifesketch Films (photographers), and Claire from The Little Animal Co.(she took care of the dog all day, even dressed him up for the occasion with a special collar to match our suits!).”
This was a day filled with music – right down to Lane’s special serenade for his new husband. “I sang a song for Finn at the reception but that is less of a family tradition and more of a personal one. I sang “Everything I Do” by Brian Adams.”
For their first dance, the couple chose “You Are The Reason” by Callum Scott. Lane says “We had dance lessons for five weeks in the lead up so it was choreographed!! It started with us walking onto the dance floor with projections of photos from the eight years before onto the wall behind.”
Lifesketch Films also created this beautiful video of Finn and Lane’s incredible day.
A big congratulations to the newlyweds! What an honour to be able to share your beautiful day. Thank you Lane and Finn and thank you Lifesketch Films for sharing this one with us!
