Hailing from Brisbane in QLD, Whistler Photo.Video’s work is “embedded with light and silence”. He makes the most of the golden hour of beautiful sunsets, the moments between each couple that tell a thousand words, and the stories those images may tell you. One of Whistler’s aims is to “show people how beautiful they are” and that he does – every couple he photographs radiating that special something that ecstatic, happy couples in love exude.
Seeing beauty in the world is a special gift that shines from the images Whistler takes to weave lasting memories.
We asked Whistler of Whistler Photo.Video five questions to get to know him:
Weddings are the best to work on because….
Being a part of someone’s wedding day and helping it become a success brings immense fulfillment and joy. Knowing that I played a role in turning their dreams into reality fills my heart with happiness and a sense of accomplishment. Witnessing the love between the couple and seeing their smiles as they embark on this beautiful journey together is incredibly heartwarming. Being surrounded by love and positivity, I am reminded of the power of human connections and the magic of this special day. It’s not just a job; it’s a privilege to be entrusted with such a significant moment in their lives. And as I pour my creativity and passion into making every detail perfect, I feel a deep connection with the couple and their families, creating memories that will last a lifetime. It’s more than just work; it’s a heartfelt endeavour to create a cherished and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
What is something people would be surprised to know about your job or something that challenges you about your job?
My job is to capture the essence of each couple’s love story in a way that is truly special and unique to them. Every wedding brings its own set of challenges and opportunities, and I have to stay creative and adaptable in diverse environments.
To tell their story, I must find fresh angles and perspectives that go beyond the obvious shots. I seek out the hidden moments, the stolen glances, and the genuine laughter that makes their love so beautiful. It’s not just about capturing formal poses; it’s about portraying the candid, authentic moments that truly define their connection.
What is it about the creative process that you most enjoy?
As a wedding photographer, I absolutely adore the magic that lighting brings to my craft. Weddings are a treasure trove of diverse lighting situations, and each one presents a new and exciting challenge to create captivating images.
Lighting plays a crucial role in photography, and weddings offer diverse lighting situations, from soft natural light during a daytime ceremony to dramatic lighting at a nighttime reception.
I feel incredibly blessed to be a witness to these luminous moments, and with every click of my camera, I capture not just light but the essence of love itself. In the end, the images become a timeless testament to the beauty and emotions that fill the hearts of the couple and their loved ones on this special day.
What are you hilariously bad at?
Comforting or consoling a crying friend…
When you were small what did you dream of being and where have those dreams taken you?
My childhood dream was to grow up quickly. I always felt that when I grew up, I would not be restrained by my parents and could be more free. But as I grew up, I realised how ridiculous my childhood dreams were. Being an adult is not easy; it comes with more responsibilities, limitations.
