It’s time for another instalment of our Behind the Shot series, where we ask photographers for a favourite candid wedding photo and the story behind it. This time it’s Dani Bartlett, with a frame from Sophie & Daniel’s wedding.
In Dani’s words “I chose this image of Sophie and Daniel because it is the ultimate ‘in-between’ moment. We had just finished up a sunset portrait walk and were simply making our way back. The ‘official’ photos were done, and I was just walking slightly ahead of them. There was no prompting, just a standard street with parked cars and an electric scooter on the curb. But as they were walking, Daniel took Sophie’s hand to check out her ring and bracelet. It is so tender and completely unposed. To me, this photo represents that beautiful, quiet exhale a couple takes when they get a split second to just be themselves on a very busy day. It’s not a perfectly curated aesthetic shot, but it is one of the most honest frames of the entire day.”
A hand held for a look at a ring and bracelet, on a footpath, with the formalities nearly done and the celebration just beginning. Thank you so much for sharing the story behind it, Dani!
About Dani Bartlett: I didn’t actually set out to become a photographer; I just knew that I loved the way photos make me feel. I loved the vivid colours, the contrast, the joy, the nostalgia, the honesty of it all. And so, when my husband and I began spending most of our time on the road, I knew that I had to document these moments so that we could relive all of our epic adventures. I didn’t know it at the time, but I also took these photos to share our lives with our kids (proof we had one before they came along!). Slowly but surely, friends and family began asking me to photograph moments for them, as well. The attraction was instant, and it wasn’t long before photography became my full-time thing. I’ve been immortalising life’s biggest moments and greatest adventures for people just like you since 2016, and I’ve never looked back.
