Tucked beneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Lavender Bay, Wendy’s Secret Garden is a community-built garden of terraces, sculptures and dense subtropical planting, decades in the making and hidden in plain sight. In Wandin East, an hour from Melbourne, Secret Garden Estate offers rose arbours, a walled garden lined in climbing ivy, and a lakeside gazebo with reflective water. Only one wedding is held per day, so the whole property is yours for it, no exceptions.
Cloudehill, VIC
A heritage hillside garden in the Dandenong Ranges, built terrace by terrace over more than a century. The structured hedging and layered planting shift with the seasons, which means the same venue photographs completely differently in spring and autumn. Hellenic Museum, VIC
Housed in Melbourne’s former Royal Mint building, the Hellenic Museum has just opened a purpose-built Garden Pavilion within its historic courtyard, hidden behind heritage walls in the middle of the CBD. Events start from November 2026, making it the newest secret garden on this list by some margin.

Cairns Secret Garden Weddings, QLD
A rainforest-backed garden built for intimate ceremonies and cocktail receptions, seating up to 110 guests. Dense, tropical, and nothing like a standard reception centre.
A private garden estate built around a dedicated Secret Garden setting, with room for an intimate elopement or a bigger celebration under the trees.
Paronella Park, QLD
A heritage-listed Spanish castle in the rainforest near Mena Creek, about ninety minutes south of Cairns. Built by José Paronella in the 1930s for the love of his life, the grounds hold five hectares of ivy-clad ruins, waterfalls, kauri pines and hidden garden paths. Around fifteen weddings are held here each year.
