There’s plenty to be said for knowing when to let a location do the talking. At Flinders Blowhole on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the rugged volcanic cliffs set the scene, while Pearl Bloom Events introduced just enough contrast to turn the landscape into something entirely new. Soft metallic fabrics draped across the rockface, sculptural painted florals and reflective details caught the changing light, and every styling element shifted with the coastal wind.

The result is a thoughtful exploration of texture, movement and material that feels right at home against one of Victoria’s most striking coastlines! We can think of no better editorial for the After Dark Issue than this one.

Combining rugged volcanic rock with fluid metallic fabrics, sculptural florals and reflective elements everywhere the eye could see. Captured by O Lemonade and set against the rustic coastline of Flinders Blowhole on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, this collaboration explores the relationship between nature and material.

This is a beautiful reflection of Pearl Bloom Events‘ approach to design. With five years under her belt in the architectural industry, it’s clear there’s a deep love of design and material use in today’s feature!

“When I first visited Flinders Blowhole, I immediately felt that the coastline was already the main feature. The cliffs were so powerful and beautiful on their own, so I didn’t want to compete with them. I wanted the ceremony design to feel like it naturally belonged within the landscape,” Pearl Bloom Events shared.

Rather than create a traditional ceremony backdrop, Pearl Bloom Events wanted to produce something more sculptural and unexpected. Metallic fabrics became a key design element, contrasting the raw coastal environment with their beautiful reflective quality. Instead, they let the rocky coastline become the star of the show. A 12-metre metallic silver fabric was draped over the cliff, carefully following the natural contour of the rocks rather than hiding them.

The type of couple the team envisioned for this concept is one that isn’t afraid to do things their own way. Choosing to celebrate their love somewhere meaningful to them, creating a reflection (whether literal or metaphoric) of themselves. Our beautiful models, Michael and Rushali, are dressed in silver to match the metallic theme, including a sparkling AhRow Bridal gown. Dotted with pearls, Rushali’s stunning look was done by Makeup by SL, twinkling like the landscape itself.

Every detail was chosen with that going your own way story in mind! The bouquet was created with silver-painted anthuriums, picked for their sculptural lines. Mirrored disco balls were placed throughout the styling to add a playful touch to the natural setting. But no styling choice stood out more than this incredible umbrella sparkling with geometric pieces added around the edges.
