Like all modern romances, this relationship sparked after a singular swipe – dating apps winning once again! Filled to the brim with custom elements, pops of pride and (of course) Taylor Swift, William and Andrew threw the perfect wedding to celebrate their relationship. The classic tone of the day was beautifully contrasted by the alfresco nature present throughout. Renee Mulcahy Photography followed the couple throughout their day, capturing the bright energy that radiated from Andrew and William.

When Will first matched with Andrew, he thought it was too good to be true, so much so that he actually blocked him! “I thought this guy was too attractive. However, when we met in person, my first impression was that he was very handsome, with beautiful teeth, and, unlike my bogan self, I thought Andrew was British because he spoke very well and properly. He also smelled and looked very clean,” Will explained.

“Andrew actually scoped me out prior to our first encounter at Boundary Street. He may have even made a quick trip to Toowoomba to walk past the Telstra store I worked at.”

A quick January trip to the Sunshine Coast was the catalyst for Will and Andrew’s next steps in their relationship, thanks to a carefully planned beach picnic. “After a day of sunshine, food and drinks poolside, Andrew asked Will if he would like to pack an esky and go sit on the beach for a drink before we went for dinner. We went back to the room, grabbed our things and made our way to the elevator when Andrew said to Will that he forgot his phone and sneaked back to get said phone and secretly grab the ring. Will was overthinking the situation and knew something was up. On the whole walk to the beach, Will was busy checking Andrew’s pockets for a square-shaped box, but could not find it. As Andrew made sure he was always one step behind him. So, he passed the idea away of anything happening,” they explained.

“We made our way onto the beach to where we drank a few drinks that we had left in our fridge from the night before. To our enjoyment, they were orange-flavoured cruisers (sarcastic). After a while of looking at the ocean, people watching, and sitting in awkward silence. Andrew turned to Will, who was drawing shapes in the sand with a stick, and with glassy eyes, Andrew told Will how much he meant to him. Andrew pulled out a ring from his BACK POCKET (where Will couldn’t see) and asked him to marry him. In shock, Will said to Andrew, “Are you sure?” Andrew said “yes”, and Will said “yes”.”

They both opted for traditional black-tie dinner suits to match the day’s classic styling. Andrew picked out a black velvet Politix dinner suit, and William went with a Joe Black wool version.

Andrew’s sisters Kate and Stacy, and William’s best friends Rebecca and Rebekah made up the wedding parties. All dressed in stunning custom black dupion silk boat neck gowns, designed by Andrew himself! Brought to life with the talents of their friend Anne Coy, a local dressmaker in Warwick, Queensland.

As their list of potential venues was whittled down, Andrew and William eventually settled on Jimbour House. “It was the last on our list. When we arrived, we were greeted by Samantha, the Events Coordinator, who was amazing. After walking the grounds and the house, we knew that this was the look and vibe we wanted.”

“Sweetest Devotion” by Adele floated through the air as William and Andrew walked into their ceremony, hand in hand.

Led by their celebrant, Megan Murphy, this classic ceremony was all about the guests. “Our guests arrived with champagne as soon as they hopped off the bus. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed, so we ensured all guests were seated at the ceremony. We had one reading, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.”

The five things that made their classic alfresco wedding extra special included:

“1. Getting ready together.

2. Spending the night before at Jimbour House with our wedding party.

3. Surprisingly cool, calm and collected on the day.

4. Knowing all our guests had a great time at the reception.

5. Our vendors were next-level professional and friendly.”

Working with Willow Designs, William and Andrew chose beautiful white roses and baby’s breath flowers for the buttonholes and bridesmaid bouquets.

This classic reception styling was done by the talented team from Lace and Barrel, filling the space with simple white Colombian roses. “Andrew’s mother and aunt also handmade the table napkins at the reception,” William shared.

If there was any piece of advice Andrew and William want to leave for couples planning their own weddings, it would be this: “Stop, and take it in. We ensured that we had a moment to ourselves before the reception to just catch up.”

Of all the moments captured by Renee Mulcahy Photography throughout the day, Andrew and William’s favourite has to be the sunset shots in the long grass. “Renee is an absolute GEM. Easy to work with, very knowledgeable on what to do and where to go for the perfect shot.”

For Andrew, the best part of the day was the reception. “Just how the reception came to life after dark – the festoon lights in the open courtyard with the table candles were amazing.”

Their first dance was to an acoustic cover of “Lover” by Taylor Swift, performed live by Serinna & The Soulinas.

Thanks to Renee Mulcahy Photography for capturing and sharing with us. And a huge congratulations to Andrew and William on this delightful celebration.
