Exactly five years after they first met on July 24th, Wendy and Steve tied the knot! “We liked the “24/7″ as we both really like each other’s company and being together 24/7 would never be an issue.”

Winter may have brought a chill to the air, but this love burned brightly enough to warm us from head to toe. Wendy and Steve’s wedding had everything they wanted: a 24/7 love story, an intimate ceremony and a pearl-bedazzled reception. Set against the beautiful Lamont’s Bishops House in Perth’s CBD, their day was full of tender moments, captured by Kimmy Stevens Photography.

Wendy and Steve met on the evening of July 24th 2019, and it was the first of many 24/7’s they would spend together. “We met initially for a coffee, coffee became a wine at the pub next door, which then became a long walk on a cool, drizzly winter’s night”

Steve was ready to take that next step in their relationship before Wendy, and patiently waited until she was right there with him. “We went out to lunch at a lovely winery in the Swan Valley (Sitellas). I then thought it was the perfect time to ask Wendy to marry me. Luckily for me, she said yes. The couple at the table across from us must have overheard and sent us a bottle of bubbly. This is something we will do if we ever have the opportunity to see an engagement,” Steve shared.

When it was time to search for her wedding outfit, Wendy knew she wanted two things: something different yet still age-appropriate “I didn’t want to sell a kidney to purchase it. My dress was from English Rose Bridal and was perfect. I love pearls, and it was covered in pearls from top to bottom (it was very heavy). It also had a hint of sparkle, and I love anything that glitters. My shoes matched perfectly. I decided not to carry flowers,” she shared.

“Handbags are a bit of a thing of mine, and my dad had bought my mum a very special Oroton evening bag in 1969 (when I was born). My dad passed away in 2020, and my mum has very advanced dementia, so having the bag was kind of a way of having a bit of my mum and my dad.”

Steve wore a suit hired from Australian Formalwear, with a white rose on his lapel in a show of respect for Wendy’s late father. “He was a Yorkshireman, and the white rose is the floral symbol of Yorkshire.”

Nestled in the heart of Perth’s CBD, Lamonts Bishop’s House was the home base for Wendy and Steve’s intimate wedding. “It is beautiful, and had a great reputation, but also logistically, it was in the city, so central and being a weekday, some people were working, so it was easier for them to get to the city,” Wendy shared.

The moodboard for florals was neutrals – with a twist! “Our florist, Sonny & Willow, delivered in spades! Our flowers were nudes / blush and white with green. They even decorated some of our flowers with pearls!”

Led by their ceremony musicians, Dolce Ensemble, performing Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Wendy walked into the ceremony with two of her sons in her arms. “I really wanted a string ensemble for music. The music was important to me,” Steve explained.

The ceremony was upbeat, positive and loving, led by their celebrant Adrianne from Just Ad Sanz. “We wanted to express our feelings for each other in front of our friends and family. The wedding was very small with only 29 guests in attendance.”

With the help of their incredible vendor dream team, Wendy and Steve brought their dream wedding to life – and they haven’t stopped thinking about it since. “The whole day exceeded our expectations. At our age, we have been to our share of weddings, and this by far was the best we’d both been to. Every detail was perfect. The celebrant, the music, the food, the drink, the staff, the guest list… everything. Almost everyone after reached out to us in the following few days to say what a wonderful wedding it was… and it was!”

For Wendy, her favourite detail of the day was Steve’s sweet words. “It was having Steve say to me that all he wanted to do was kiss me when we were having our photos taken.”

Kimmy Stevens was the perfect photographer for this intimate wedding, capturing Wendy and Steve in her signature authentic style. ” Wow – wow – wow!!! She was extraordinary, and our pictures were absolutely incredible. We’ve recommended her to so many people who are looking to capture any special moment. She even got down on the wet ground to get photos of us. Just Wow!”

Both Steve and Wendy had separate favourite shots from the day – for Steve, it was these photos of him and Wendy under the umbrellas that stole his heart. “The one when we were walking down the side of the house and both of us are looking at each other and laughing as if to say “Holy Shit – we’ve done it!” and the other is just me leaning over Steve’s shoulder,” Wendy shared.

For Wendy, the five things that stood out the most during their intimate wedding included:

“1. I got to marry the love of my life

2. The feeling of closeness with those that were present

3. That Steve’s mum travelled from the UK with her partner to join us

4. How gorgeous everything and everyone looked

5. We found out that we were to be grandparents that night…!”

As they were planning the wedding, Wendy’s main goal was to create an intimate atmosphere. “I’d been to so many weddings that were big and five years later you don’t see two or three of the people, so it really was our immediate family and special friends only. The meal was also important as I wanted our guests to think that they’d had a really special evening.”

They had a friend craft this beautiful cake, and another friend designed and created the sage green napkins with everyone’s names embroidered on each one. “We designed and had printed all of our invitations, menus, etc. with the help of our wedding planner, Veils & Vibes.

Thanks to Kimmy Stevens for capturing and sharing these moments with us, and congratulations to Steve and Wendy on your beautiful day!
