Autumn may have brought the cooler air, but Britt and Michael’s wedding burned bright with colour, and the unmistakable pulse of a cocktail-hour celebration. Their day unfolded in vivid tones: pink and purple blooms, glossy black tuxedos, and a dance floor that was electric from the moment guests picked up their tambourines. With Amy from About Time Co. capturing each electric moment, the celebration felt like a love letter to bold colour and even bolder fun.

On a trip to Queenstown in 2024, Michael surprised Britt with that all-important question: Will you marry me? Obviously, she said yes! “He hired a photographer to capture the moment. The photographer hid in a bush on top of a mountain to get the best angles of the moment with a beautiful scenic background,” she shared.

Dressed to the nines, Michael and his groomsmen wore sleek black tuxedos to match the cocktail vibes.

Britt wore a stunning White Lily Couture gown with a low back, full beautiful skirt and delicate pearl detailing. Her natural, glowy makeup was artfully done by Erica Coffey.

The final piece of her look was this incredible pink and purple bouquet from Garden Graffiti, who designed and created all of the colourful florals found throughout the day.

Both Michael and Britt fell in love with a venue called The Lussh in Brisbane – literally the moment they walked through the doors! Fast forward 8 months, and the venue burned down! “There was a big fire that tore through the heritage brick building, and the venue was forced to close its doors,” Britt explained.

“Luckily for us, the events team at The Lussh made sure we had backup options. They eventually found a new space at The Vita Nova, where they were able to take over, flip the space with their own styling touches, to make the perfect wedding venue for us.”

Britt walked down the aisle with her dad as “Truly, Madly, Deeply” by Sidney played.

Their ceremony was an intimate affair, where friends and family were treated to Britt and Michael’s meet-cute and love story.

Both of their favourite shots came after the ceremony: “Our two favourite photos for us are the aisle dip kiss, and spraying a bottle of champagne with our bridal party.”

The top five things that made this colourful cocktail wedding so special for Britt and Michael included:

“1. Having all our friends, family and people we love most in one room to celebrate us.

2. Ripping up the dance floor with our tambourines.

3. Writing our own vows.

4. Birdman Randy.

5. A unique wedding venue (it’s usually used as a photography studio!)”

For Britt, the best part of the planning process was seeing all of their hard work come together on the day.

Amy from About Time Co. was the perfect photographer to capture Britt and Michael’s day alongside them, as Britt says, “Amy Preston was incredible. She made us feel relaxed during the photoshoots, and the photos she has sent us are brilliant!”

As a special touch for the reception, Britt and Michael DIY’d tambourines with their guests’ names on them to act as the place cards. “The tambourines were such a fun addition to the night as they got everyone up on the dance floor. We got so much positive feedback on them, we have decided to start making them for other events and celebrations!”

When it came down to their vendor dream team, Katelyn from The Lussh went above and beyond to help Britt and Michael. “She made sure our day was everything we wanted, even through the pain of the original venue burning down.”

If there was one piece of advice Britt and Michael want to leave for couples in the process of planning their own weddings, it would be this: “The day passes so quickly. Take a few moments to be present together.”

The main goal for their reception was to create a giant party – and Britt and Michael knew that the key to that was to hire a band. And the band they hired wasn’t just any random band, but the same band that was playing at a local Brisbane venue when they shared their first kiss: Birdman Randy & The Ivory Street Preachers!

“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli was performed by their 5-piece band for the first dance. “They were brilliant! We had done a few dance lessons prior to the wedding, and we’re glad we did. It was a massive hit and set the tone for the dance floor for the evening.”

Thanks to About Time Co. for sharing these moments with us, and congratulations to Britt and Michael on this beautiful day!
