From the very beginning, Jina and Aaron’s wedding was all about intention – a celebration where art, culture, and heartfelt moments came together in perfect harmony. Their wedding at Quat Quatta was a vibrant reflection of who they are, elegant yet playful, thoughtful yet joyfully chaotic, where every detail told a story.
They honoured their heritage with a bilingual ceremony and a traditional tea ritual, while also weaving in modern touches like fruit-filled florals, collaborative art, and a dance floor bursting with energy. Captured beautifully by Brandon from Why So Generic and on film by John from Tailored Wedding Films, this wedding was proof that when you design your day with heart, everything falls perfectly into place.
It all began in 2015, when Jina and Aaron met while studying architecture at RMIT University. Their paths crossed on a travelling studio course to Ho Chi Minh City – and by the time they returned to Melbourne, their love story had already taken shape.
Flash forward a couple of years to the colourful island of Burano in Venice. Aaron had planned a proposal, complete with a professional photographer, a bridge to set the scene, and a made-up story about it being “the most famous one on the island.” As Jina turned around mid-photo pose, she found him on one knee. “My first thought was, ‘Finally!’” she laughed.
The vibrant backdrop couldn’t have been more fitting for an art lover. “I adore colours, and the island’s vibrant houses have a beautiful history – painted that way so fishermen could spot their homes from the sea. It felt symbolic: I had found my home, too, with my soon-to-be husband.”
Jina custom-designed her wedding dress with the Dentelle Bridal team, crafting it out of a base dress and two interchangeable skirts. “The base was an A-line dress inspired by the traditional Chinese qipao, complete with a mandarin collar and an asymmetrical sleeveless design. Colourful floral lace wrapped around the bodice,” she explained.
“One skirt echoed the floral motif, while the other was a plain, fluffy white skirt – allowing me to easily switch up my look throughout the day. I wanted something special, unique, and versatile – something I could wear again on another meaningful occasion.”
The best advice Jina and Aaron want to leave for future couples planning their own weddings is this: “Ask your family what truly matters to them – it’s easy to forget in the chaos of planning. If photography is important to you, consider getting them to help you remember to capture moments together. The day flies by!”
Aaron also wore a custom-made dark green suit with a stunning coloured lining to match the fun vibe of the day, created by Vestio Bespoke. “Dark green was a nod to our love for nature and the lush surroundings of the venue. It became the motif for our wedding invites and stationery.”
Of all the beautiful photos captured by Why So Generic, the moments from their first look have a special place in Jina’s heart. “It captures the raw joy and excitement we felt in that unforgettable moment.”
Thanks to its classic mansion style and stunning private courtyard, Quat Quatta was the first venue that truly caught Jina and Aaron’s eye. “We liked that it used to be a “home” – intimate, elegant, and lush. It was one of the few venues that we thought was appropriate for both the ceremony and reception, so much so that we even hosted a traditional tea ceremony in the drawing room. We also thought the venue as a setting was beautiful enough in itself that we didn’t need to hire additional decorations, etc.”
To start off their ceremony, Aaron and Jina walked down the aisle towards each other, as “Best Day Of My Life” played throughout the room. “We then met each other halfway, and continued walking together to the end of the aisle. We wanted to symbolically represent our union that day, walking hand in hand through life together from that moment on.”
The ceremony itself was kept intimate, with only close friends and family in attendance. “We exchanged vows and completed the formalities in a heartfelt way, expressing gratitude and sharing memories. We also held a traditional tea ceremony to honour our families. As part of his vows, Aaron promised we would adopt puppies together after the wedding – and that memory still makes me smile (I have been trying to convince him for years). We are now proud paw-rents to a seven-month-old Westie!” Jina shared.
“Jenny Chiu, our celebrant, was incredible. We wanted a bilingual celebrant so that my non-English-speaking family could fully engage in the ceremony. She was professional, attentive, and understood our vision from the start.”
Brandon from Why So Generic was the perfect photographer to capture the elegant chaos of Jina and Aaron’s wedding. “He brought such good vibes and had a talent for capturing beautiful, candid moments. We loved the results.”
Native flowers and fresh fruits were incorporated into the table arrangements, with moss at the centre creating a beautiful growing effect. “The team at Wildblooms Floristry did a wonderful job in ensuring the florals were both sustainable and low-waste – fruits could be eaten, and native plants are local and seasonal.”
Jina and Aaron’s favourite part of their wedding was the games during the reception, only adding more (good) chaos to their day! “That was our chance to unwind and fully enjoy the moment with our guests,” she explained.
“We also designed and made the welcome sign, seating chart, and table menus ourselves — each personalised in English and Chinese. Our door gifts were custom-made chopsticks and spoons with our wedding motif. We also asked guests to contribute to a collaborative painting – each person added a brushstroke to mark the special day.”
The five things that made their elegant chaos wedding so special were:
“1. Being non-traditional whilst celebrating our culture and heritage
2. A vibrant, colourful theme
3. A relaxed, playful atmosphere
4. Floral (fruit) choices
5. Our shared love of food, celebrated with a big Yum Sheng toast!”
Beyond the beautiful styling and architecture-inspired venue, Jina and Aaron’s wedding was filled with heart – small, intentional gestures that showed how much they cared for their guests. “We prepared a refresh station in the ladies’ bathroom, stocked with essentials like safety pins, hairpins, and bandages – just in case! We also included Polaroid cameras on the signing table for guests to take photos themselves, capturing the day the way they wanted.”
Thanks to Why So Generic for sharing your talented work with us. Huge congratulations to Jina and Aaron on your beautiful celebration!
