1. Pelorus Private Island – Great Palm Archipelago
Envisioning the ultimate tropical wedding? Then you simply must hire your own private oasis. We’ve found just the place; nestled in the Great Barrier Reef north of Townsville. Arrive by helicopter or yacht to Pelorus and 400 hectares of pristine paradise are all yours (though you may have to share with the odd bandicoot). Your wedding celebrations will be the ultimate in privacy and personalisation against an unbelievably dreamy backdrop of lilting palm trees and glinting sands. Due to the nature of the venue, every single detail of your celebration can be customised to your exacting tastes: from the menu to the order of proceedings to the various locations you wish to utilise. So…where can we r.s.v.p?
Capacity: Accommodation for up to 39 (in conjunction with the neighbouring Orpheus Island Lodge). Please enquire re: wheelchair accessibility.
2. Altitude Nine – Maroochydore
Clinking glasses of sparkling during a balmy sunset is what we want to experience at Altitude Nine. Conveniently set on the rooftop of City Hall, this new event space offers panoramic views of the Sunshine Coast and the Glasshouse Mountains. Your guests will flock to the roomy, covered terrace during cocktail hour. The space is set up as bit of a blank canvas so you can style it your own way, but at the same time there’s just enough interesting design and texture in case you want to keep things modern and minimalist.
Capacity: 112 seated, 180 standing. Fully wheelchair-accessible venue.
3. The Atrium at Wynmère Estate – Tamborine Mountain
Formerly known as The Grounds, this hinterland estate has both a new name and a shiny new atrium for rustic garden ceremonies. We love an open-air venue where you don’t have to be too concerned about the weather. And it’s a quick jump over to the adjacent courtyard come cocktail hour. We love the romantic, secret garden vibes here. Photographer: Lovelenscapes & Wylde Folk Studio
Capacity: 90 seated and standing. Fully accessible venue.
4. The Bethnal – Newstead
As a space that’s solely dedicated to events, The Bethnal can host your wedding ceremony and reception in one streamlined place. Awash in elegant black, this new function venue is accented with wine and spirits barrels. This means it possesses all of the cosy and sophisticated atmosphere of a party at a private cellar door – without having to make your guests travel all the way out to wine country to enjoy it. Ubering home after the dancing is done will be so much easier! Photographer: Pixel Punk
Capacity: 90 seated, 130 standing. Fully accessible venue.
5. A Sure Thing Chapel – Capalaba
The Sure Thing Collective has opened its very own “urban chapel” for elopements, renewals, ceremonies and even small-scale receptions. The space is decked out in minimalist black and white – all the better to add in your own colours – with various nooks styled for couple-y snaps that you’ll insta-love. Your guests will get a kick out of seeing your names lit up in lights, cinema-style, on arrival. Afterward, you can choose to stay on-site for a private party. Plus, every couple hitched here gets their initials on the chapel’s wall of love. Photographer: Romana Saeheng
Capacity: 30 seated, 40 standing. Partially accessible venue (please enquire).
6. The Homestead, Currumbin
If you’re the type to be keen on side of native fauna along with your wedding day flora, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary might be the place for you. They’ve just opened up a “Queenslander” style homestead, designed to host special events. It’s all just so nostalgically Australian here. Set against a soothing bush backdrop, a weatherboard-look facade opens up into a spacious grand room dotted with rivergum paintings. The all-weather verandah is a nice touch as a break-out space. We just hope some furry guests “hop” on in for your big day.
Capacity: 200 seated. Fully accessible venue.
7. Wham Bam Thank You Sam – Windsor
We think the elopement and micro-wedding trend is here to stay. What’s not sticking around? The themes at Wham Bam Thank You Sam. This ever-changing ceremony space is styled for a good time not a long time. Currently sporting soft deco soft colours, it’s as if a retro-filter has been applied to your occasion. WBTYS also offers private dining for the after (or before, or during, you do you) party. P.S. Rex and Fluffy are invited to the party too; this venue welcomes pets.
Capacity: 14 seated and standing. Partially accessible venue (please enquire).
8. Riva Kitchen & Events – Hamilton
Translating to “from the shore” in Italian, it’s little wonder this new function space overlooks the meandering Brisbane River. Nestled inside parklands, this venue is awash in blonde timbers, pale hues and natural light. There’s even a playground next door for any little ones invited along. We’re thinking a light and breezy lunchtime or brunchtime reception would be pretty idyllic here, or even a wedding shower in a private room.
Capacity: 100 seated, 200 standing. Fully accessible venue.
9. Rich & Rare – West End
Wagyu. Lobster. Whisky. Sparkling wine. If those elements sound like the makings of an unforgettable celebration to you, Rich & Rare might be the reception or engagement party venue that you’ve been looking for. Get cosy in the modern 10-seater dining room for a micro-wedding that still “lives large”, or book out the entire restaurant for fine times in a contemporary setting.
Capacity: 130 seated, 155 standing. Fully accessible venue.
10. Essence Peregian Beach – Sunshine Coast
Nestled between sandy Peregian Beach and Noosa National Park, this new hotel balances nature with luxury – it’s a breath of fresh air! We envision the most glamorous of pre-reception cocktail hours hosted out on Essence’s pool deck. Or there’s the Holly Jade Room styled in coastal chic stone with a private bar for your party. By the way, if you’re thinking a coastal chic elopement or micro-wedding is better for you; they have an array of beach homes with their own pools here too.
Capacity: 100 seated, 200 standing. Fully accesible venue.
11. Ambrym Estate – Yeppoon
Sprawled across 50 glorious acres of land, Ambrym Estate could be yours (if only for one day). This new wedding venue, located on the Capricorn Coast, offers privacy and scenery in abundance. Merging coastal and country vibes, the estate offers a resort-style pool, a spacious pavilion and rolling lawns. Anyone up f0r a game of petanque during the reception? And just wait until you see the honeymoon suite (the bathtub!)
Capacity: 100 seated. Partially accessible venue (please enquire).
12. Fatcow – Fortitude Valley
Steak plus wine? Sounds like a good time to us. The classic materials used at Fatcow – leather, marble, tile, gauzy curtains to soften the whole look – ensure that your venue will look timeless in photos. The space is designed in a muted, greyscale palette meaning you can add your own colourful blooms and styling with ease should you wish to book out the whole venue. For an elopement or micro-wedding, their 8-seater dining room with sophisticated wine cellar views is the one for you. The real bonus here? Comfy seats for everyone! Photographer: Marcus Ravik
Capacity: 120 seated. Fully accessible venue.
13. Establishment 203 – Fortitude Valley
Found: a perfectly pink and pastel venue for those who want to embrace rosy romance. This Italian joint has the cosy vibes of a mid-century supper club – we imagine Dean Martin and Billie Holiday rolling up here with their entourage for beef tartare and (many) Americano cocktails. You can too. With such plush interiors of statement marble, tile and velvet you won’t even need to decorate. Coincidentally, a reception or after-party here tonally complements a ceremony with Wham Bam Thank Sam’s soft deco theme right now. Just a thought!
Capacity: Seated 90, Standing 160. Fully accessible venue.
Seeking a private dining room with personality? Como has it in spades. Taking inspiration from the Lake Como region at the foot of the Italian Alps, this space will have you celebrating like the region’s famous residents George Clooney, Richard Branson or the late, great Gianni Versace. Toast to your new life together over Champagne lobster spaghetti and sunshiny spritzes spiked with lemon verbena. We highly recommend hiring a fleet of Vespas to take your guests home safely in style.
Capacity: 12 seated.
With an in-house planner, several all-inclusive wedding packages and an array of professional event partners at their (and therefore, your) fingertips, tying the knot at The Lex, inside the W Hotel, should be a snap. We can’t get over how much natural light floods the textural, curvily-designed restaurant here. And, come evening, this view will begin to shimmer with both the Brisbane river and the lights of Southbank beyond. Photographer: Soda Photography
Capacity 75 seated, 300 standing. Fully accessible venue.
