This pair of nearlyweds planned their wedding without a theme – but instead focused on a vibe. The vibe they picked? Well, whimsical, of course. Creating a down-to-earth and intimate event to celebrate their love with the ones they love most. With the help of Adam from Journey by Light, they captured the day.
After meeting on a dating app during COVID, Michaeleah and Zoe were inseparable. They have so much love to share – which is how they came to the mutual decision to get married, with no grand proposal necessary. It was just about the strong bond shared between two people.
Before any of the major events kicked off for the day, Michaeleah, Zoe, and their wedding party (or, as they refer to them – their Lads) spent their morning slowly getting ready and spending quality time together.
Michaeleah wore this whimsical, Alice in Wonderland-style blue dress from Linennaive with puffy short sleeves and some corset-style ribbon details across the ribs. Her bouquet was filled with dried Australian wildflowers created by Amble & Twine.
On the other hand, Zoe wore this incredible burnt orange pant set tied at the waist. Under the blazer, they wore a simple white shirt that had bright orange zigzag detailing across the collar. They wore a wildflower boutonniere to match Michaeleah’s bouquet, pinned to the lapel of their jacket.
Michaeleah and Zoe called their wedding party their “Lads”, filling it with Michaeleah’s siblings Elysha and J, Zoe’s sister Lucy and their close friends Olivia and Amelia. Each member chose their dress in varying shades of orange.
Their venue of choice for the day was Potters Reception. As guests entered the ceremony space, they were greeted with the welcome sign Zoe made and got their first taste of the whimsical wildflowers found throughout the day. “Potters Receptions hosted both our ceremony and reception, which took a lot of stress out of the day. We loved it from the first time we saw it and had such a positive experience with them.”
Both Zoe and Michaeleah were accompanied by their fathers down the aisle before walking with each other the rest of the way to the altar. This part of the wedding was soundtracked by “Surf” by Mac Miller.
The ceremony itself perfectly fit with the intimate, whimsical vibes of the day, with an overall relaxed feeling – led by their celebrant Custom Celebrations by Dee. “Our celebrant did such a wonderful job preparing our story. Zo’s aunt, Annie, wrote a beautiful poem for us, which was read by Zo’s mum.”
Both Michaeleah and Zoe would agree that their favourite part of planning the wedding was actually writing their vows. Putting pen to paper and describing the love, passion and companionship they feel for each other.
Before the rings were exchanged, they held a ring warming – where all of their friends and family held the rings and ‘warmed’ them with their love and happiness—the wedding rings, which Michaeleah and Zoe had actually created themselves.
Their five favourite things about their wedding were:
“1. Having our families there
2. Having such wonderful friends there
3. After the ceremony, we were able to be alone to debrief, have some delicious food and chill out for a bit before the reception. It was really lovely to be able to have a quiet moment and catch up as nearlyweds.
4. Being able to eat so much wonderful vegan food
5. Sharing our love story with all of our closest family and friends.”
One of their favourite memories from the day was actually spending time with their Lads getting the wedding and couple portraits taken. “It was a nice quiet time to celebrate, and we had a lot of fun!”
Adam from Journey by Light was the photographer in charge of this whimsical wedding, and he absolutely nailed the brief. “Adam is simply fantastic. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to capture our day. He was the best hype man and made sure everyone felt comfortable,” Michaeleah explained, and when asked about her favourite photo, she said, “We can’t choose, but we’re especially chuffed with our couple portraits!”
Once portraits were taken care of, the party moved to their reception space. This beautiful cake was created by the team over at Third Circle Bakery – perfectly fitting with the foresty-whimsical vibes. The place cards were also made by Michaeleah and Zoe.
Michaeleah and Zoe were so thankful they found their dream team of vendors to help bring their whimsical wedding dreams to life. “All of our vendors went above and beyond for us. We are so thankful and grateful.”
A beautiful tradition passed down from Michaeleah’s parents and grandparents happened during their first dance. As they were dancing to “Like Real People Do” by Hozier, not only did the music stop two times (third times a charm), but they were wrapped in streamers for good luck.
Congratulations, Michaeleah and Zoe! You created a beautiful, whimsical wedding that was the perfect celebration of your love! And thanks again to Adam from Journey to Light for capturing and submitting it for us to share.
