On her mum’s property in O’Connell NSW, Mikaela and Alex tied the knot with an autumnal, boho-inspired wedding surrounded by pine trees and the country air. With Tilly Roberts as their photographer, they captured all the warm atmosphere and intimate moments of the day.
Mikaela and Alex met online, and after a few months of talking, they met up in person. Sparks flew instantly, with Mikaela sharing: “We instantly knew we were each other’s people.”
With their shared love for sushi, Alex suggested they go on a sushi date in a nearby park and convinced Mikaela to dress up so he could get some updated photos. “He then proposed by the river while our little one was talking to ducks and missed the whole thing!”
The wedding party got ready at “The Convent” in O’Connell NSW, a property Mikaela’s mother bought last year. “The Convent is extremely beautiful and historic; my mother recently registered it as an air BnB. My favourite part of the property is the windows and the wisteria.”
Alex and his groomsmen wore autumnal-coloured suits with tan pants, white shirts, red ties and rich brown blazers. To differentiate himself from his wedding party, Alex also wore a vest with his outfit. “Alex wore a suit that he chose to fit the theme, and he looked super handsome! He fell in love with a suit he found on Pinterest and mimicked this suit.”
Foster and Co. in Bathurst created these incredible flowers, nailing the autumnal feel. “Zana is a floral genius; she took so much care and pride in her work and made the most beautiful floral arrangement I have ever seen with a husk and a lovely, unique orchid. She also made a flower headpiece for our daughter and decorated the arbour and tent pole wonderfully.”
Mikaela wore a stunning dress from Watters that featured three-quarter sleeves, lace panelling and subtle pearl details that perfectly fit the boho theme of the day. “My favourite part of planning the wedding was shopping with the girls to find dresses. I fell in love with this dress from Watters because it was different, flowy and comfortable.”
In Mikaela’s wedding party she has her sister as Maid of Honour and her best friends as bridesmaids. They all wore gowns with various styles and colours that all fit the autumnal colour theme.
The ceremony took place on Mikaela’s mum’s property in O’Connell – with its pine forest, river frontage and gorgeous old trees creating the perfect autumn vibes.
Walking down the aisle with her mum, Mikaela chose “The Bones” by Marren Morris and Hozier as her entrance song. Her entrance made Alex a bit emotional, sharing, “Mikaela walking down the aisle made me tear up… Luckily, I cheated and wore sunnies!”
The ceremony was a beautiful moment, filled with personal vows and readings. “Our celebrant, Jo – The Snowy Celebrant, created a beautiful reading by asking us questions and tailoring her reading to our story and our different quirks,” Mikaela explained. “Alex also made sure to include Ava, my daughter and his stepdaughter in the readings, which was extremely special.”
Venturing into the pine forest on the property post-ceremony, it was time for the wedding portraits with photographer Tilly Roberts. “Tilly was wonderful and captured our day perfectly; it was great to have both there to capture both groups when getting ready and covering everyone. It all went by in a flash, but Tilly managed to capture it all perfectly.”
Mikaela shared that her favourite moment was “Marrying the love of my life and having my favourite people there to celebrate with.”
For their first dance, Alex and Mikaela were a few beers and gins deep – so while “Speechless” by Dan and Shay played, they broke into the robot and chicken dance, “Gin wins again!”
A huge congratulations to Mikaela and Alex on your beautiful autumnal wedding! And thanks again to Tilly Roberts for submitting this stunning wedding for us to share.
