From the city to the country, from the historic to ultra-modern, we’ve rounded up 20 brand new (or beautifully revamped) wedding ceremony and wedding reception venues from right around Melbourne and regional Victoria! Some of these diverse event spaces and locations may even take your fancy as your wedding shower, engagement, hen’s or buck’s party venue too! P.S. It’s “Manhattan meets Melbourne” vibes as The Trust unveils its multi-million-dollar revamp. Recently added to Nudo Events‘ portfolio of venues, the heritage-listed former Port of Melbourne Authority building has been infused with new life. This Flinders Lane city venue is all set for weddings with plenty of pomp and polish with touches of gold, swathes of marble, and retained 20th-century Beaux-Arts details. Photography: Art of Grace.
Capacity: 210 seated, 450 standing
2. Lancemore Milawa – Milawa
Recently undergoing a vast designer transformation, Lancemore Milawa offers eight acres of sprawling property on which to tie the knot – all conveniently located in Prosecco country (so you know your celebratory toasts will taste extra delicious). There are several ceremony spots to choose from including gardens awash with roses, grapevines and wattle depending on the season. Celebrate afterwards in the on-site Restaurant Merlot or their lounge with a crackling fireplace for the cosiest of weddings. With 40 boutique hotel rooms, you could invite your guests to stay a while and then go on a gourmet tour of the region the day after.
Capacity: 120 seated, 160 standing
3. The Grand Room – South Yarra
This end of Chapel Street is known for glamour and swagger and The Grand Room is no exception. Entering through Bromley Gallery (an intimate and arty event venue in and of itself), you’ll enter a cavernous space with walls that look like molten lava cooled to a shimmering, satiny black then studded with oversized pearl lighting. Your guests can sip martinis while they watch the iconic trams lumber down Toorak Road and Chapel Street. This is a go-big or go-home kind of place with a team that welcomes your grand ideas.
Capacity: 150 seated, 250 standing
4. Dorsett Hotel – Melbourne CBD
Conveniently located near Southern Cross Station, the Flagstaff Gardens, and one of our favourite morning-after brunch spots, Higher Ground, Dorsett Hotel is one of the city’s newest hotels. They have a handful of different event spaces from modern meeting rooms to intimate, plush private dining rooms. But our favourite option just might be hiring out their Jin Bar all to yourself: decked out in navy, brass, charcoal and Champagne hues, it’s a pretty luxe spot.
Capacity (meeting room): 40 seated
5. Saint Hotel – St Kilda
The recently transformed Saint offers an industrially-styled private dining room (plus a semi-private dining room if you want to soak up more of the venue’s upscale buzz). The room features exposed brick, brushed concrete, Matt Arbuckle’s impressionist landscapes and natural light spilling in from Fitzroy Street. After feasting on a charcoal-driven menu, you can take the party to the next level – and into the wee hours at one or both of the Saint’s onsite cocktail bars. The lounge-y Bar 54 and the sound-driven Stella’s can also be hired privately.
Capacity: 16 seated, 120 standing
6. Cityfields – Chadstone
Styled after a European Brasserie, Cityfields is a destination set for occasions that are a little bit relaxed, a little bit fancy, and whole lot of wine-and-carb-fuelled fun. For private events, they offer the – so Frenchy, so chic – Long Room for family affairs. Upstairs, the Terrace Room boasts city skyline views and its own adjoining rooftop garden and bar. Just say oui.
Capacity: 80 seated, 150 standing
7. Scrub Hill – Newlyn
Scrub Hill’s owners used to run Big Dog Deli in Richmond but decided on a tree change just outside of Daylesford to run this new wedding and events venue. We can certainly see why – we want to run away with them to this unbelievably charming spot! You can do your day your way here, with an old bluestone church, vintage schoolhouse, lawn shaded by a 150-year-old Himalayan cedar, an acre of paddocks or not one, but two, fairytale forests to choose from. Capacity: 140 seated, 160 standing
8. Level 41 at Strato – Melbourne CBD
Thinking of a dreamy wedding? Then you’d better put your head above the clouds. Initially named Sky Bar, what is now known as Strato Bar and Lounge offers private events in a dedicated space that’s 41 storeys up. Split into two distinct rooms – the Yarra and the Port Phillip – the venue offers expansive views during the day and glittering sights by night. Set inside the Oakwood Premier Melbourne hotel, We feel like a white-sequinned gown or tux is in order if you get hitched here!
Capacity: 40 seated, 70 standing
9. Goolwa River Retreat – Torrumbarry
Living by the water has been scientifically proven to be good for you. So it follows that getting hitched by the water must be a good thing too – or at least an instant boost for every guests’ mood. Goolwa River Retreat is a small series of cottages by the Murray River, near Echuca, but they now offer riverside weddings amid the River Red gum trees and fresh country air too – all 22 acres of it! The best part – you can arrange a BBQ for your recovery session the next day.
Capacity: 250 seated, 375 standing
10. The Royce Hotel – Melbourne
A boutique hotel wedding is always chic in our opinion. And the Royce has just made it even more tempting with an extensive – and swanky – revamp of what was once-upon-a-time a luxury automobile showroom. Arrival martinis in the Showroom Bar, swapping vows in the airy Conservatory courtyard, dining and dancing the night away in the ballroom? It can all be yours. You could even pop over here to party after your ceremony in the Botanic Gardens next door.
Capacity: capacities on request
11. Chapter Place – Coburg
We’ll refrain from making outdated quips about “the old ball and chain” for this one. The site of the infamous ex-Pentridge prison has transformed into a culture and community hub. As part of this comes Chapter Place with three wedding ceremony venue options and four reception options. Bookable spaces include a 160-year-old chapel complete with leadlight windows, a reflection garden and a long hall room that was once a cell block. Historic bluestone and a castle-like atmosphere are the key looks here. With a bonus restaurant, wine bar and hotel accommodation on site, you could make it a whole wedding weekend.
Capacity: 250 seated, 400 standing
12. Morris House – Melbourne CBD
If you wanted a blowout party you could take over all four levels of this newly revamped, historic, city pub. But if you don’t have around 700 friends to fill the place, consider Morris House’s breezy rooftop – which can be covered if Melbourne does her four-seasons-in-one-day thing. Or inside, on level one, there’s more private space with its own bar, cosy booth seating, a balcony with streetscape views and a stage. And if you’re looking for a place that’s a little offbeat, there’s even a New York-style comedy club in the basement that you could call your very own for one night only.
Capacity: 26 seated, standing 730
13. Aunty Kim’s – Collingwood
You’re lucky if you have an aunt who’s this cool. Presented by the Rice Paper Scissors restaurant team, Aunty Kim’s juxtaposes vintage chandeliers and soft velvet against textured concrete for a glam industrial vibe. We like how moody and subterranean after-dark weddings can feel when hosted here. And yet there are also full-sized windows to let the light in or to celebrate the golden hours before dusk if you so wish.
Capacity: 20 seated, 60 standing
14. Carrajung Estate – Willung South
Gippsland vineyard Toms Cap has new owners, a new name and a whole new look! A choice of ceremony locations includes an outdoor option with grapevines and Mullundung State Forest as your backdrop. Their indoor reception space extends out onto a deck and lawn for easy, al fresco vibes. There is idyllic onsite lodge or retreat accommodation where some of your guests could stay the night. Plus, the estate’s version of a honeymoon suite is The Nest: a cosy, revamped cottage for two complete with a designer outdoor bath overlooking the countryside. We can smell the fresh air already.
Capacity: 100 seated, 120 standing
15. Beverly – South Yarra
Let the sun smile upon your big day at Beverly; the new rooftop venue atop Goldfields House. Don’t be fooled by the grandmotherly moniker. Decked out in a contemporary mix of terrazzo, pinstripe prints and earthy hues, and awash with windows, this sky-high space is all set to impress. And hosting your sunset cocktail hour here? Sublime. Speaking of which, greet your guests on arrival here with Beverly’s Bellini Sunset – it’s adorned with rose petals for a touch of romance.
Capacity: 150 seated, 190 standing
16. Bossley – Melbourne CBD
Situated in the city’s theatre district, Bossley has two exclusive dining spaces to choose from. Little Bossley is all set for intimate celebrations with up to a dozen guests sharing a table. We love that it has it’s own private entrance and bar. Thinking of a little-bit-larger affair? To the Private Dining Room it is then! This place is also a lovely choice if you have lots of guests traveling to toast the happy couple. As their events menu is focused on Victorian produce – like T-bone steaks from Gippsland, Yarra Valley lamb and Port Phillip Bay-caught snapper – you can show off your state in style.
Capacity: 48 seated, 110 standing
17. Reine & La Rue – Melbourne CBD
This grand space is surely set to become one of Melbourne’s most sought-after wedding destinations – it comes with built-in cathedral vibes after all! Reine & La Rue was once a stock exchange built during the excessive, gold rush heyday in a Venetian-Gothic architectural style. Now it has transformed into a restaurant (Reine) and tiny cocktail bar (La Rue) by Nomad Group that honours all of the venue’s best features. Celebrate underneath limestone vaulted ceilings, surrounded by French marble and original stained glass.
Capacity: 135 seated, 150 standing
18. Rydges Melbourne – Melbourne CBD
A mammoth revamp has left Rydges in the city with no less than 11 new-look spaces for hosting events (not including their in-house restaurant Bossley as we mentioned earlier). Centre Stage is the big deal ballroom for you and 488 friends and family members, Meeting Place is a blank canvas that’s a little bit smaller than the ballroom (but not by much) or, if breezy is your style there’s also a two-level terrace and rooftop terrace option. And you could even dive into a pool party wedding here on the rooftop – hello pastel 70s vibes – that you can book privately.
Capacity: 340 seated, 500 standing
19. Odd Culture – Fitzroy
We’re all about relaxed – yet delicious – celebrations. This new bar fits the bill possessing Northside pub vibes (sans the sticky carpet; this is a special occasion, after all). Ditch the Champagne for something a little more interesting. You’ll be toasting to your future life with natural wines and wild beers at Odd Culture. The entire fermentation-focused venue can be booked for large-scale good times. Or, are you feeling like adding a little grunge for your engagement party? Check out the laneway beer garden ’round back – it’s awash with conversation-piece graffiti art and a canopy of festoon lighting.
Capacity: 300 seated and standing
20. Hotel Canberra – Ballarat
Don’t be fooled by the name. This place is firmly located in one of regional Victoria’s greatest culinary and cultural hubs. Inside the recently restored Art Deco hotel are a variety of venues for you to choose from. There’s Bobby’s: a wine bar stocked with artisan, all-Victorian tipples – not to mention its very own piano – for rollicking country cocktail parties. Then there’s the fine-diner Vesta x Jigs where you could spoil your guests with a locally-focused degustation dinner. Protip: Book both Bobby’s and Vesta x Jigs for an unforgettable, progressive affair. There’s also the Stables cafe and bar which can host cosy private parties in the evening – comprising of three century-old heritage stables, indoor/outdoor space and a charming garden. And, being a working hotel, you can start the honeymoon here straight away.
Capacity: 40 seated, 60 standing
